Enjoy it while you can because the prices will surely rise then will everyone still be raving about Turkey?

I for one still would - rather keep coming to somewhere I love, and where I've made genuine friends and received such wonderful hospitality any day, even if it does get more expensive!
I am paying less for my 2 holidays to Turkey this year for 2 weeks than I paid for 1 week 19 years ago
I think a lot of people go to Turkey based on the fact that they think they will have a cheap holiday. All I am trying to say is will the majority feel the same when the prices go up? If it's all about the price and not where you really want to go then fine; enjoy. Happy hols everyone.
I agree that a lot of people first go to Turkey because they think they will have a cheap holiday ... but a lot of them then absolutely fall in love with the place and return year after year.

JAK xx
Exactly, Jakki!
Well I will still be going back to Turkey whatever. I love the place
An interesting article on rising prices and the effects can be found here;
She has told us on numerous occasions at the frustration she often felt by their lack of business sense and that on numerous occasions she tried to advice Turkish friends with similar businesses that when trade was good it was better to have a smaller profit on a lot than big profit on a little . They just couldnt seem to grasp this principal and all too often she would see them bump prices up to ridiculous profit levels when trade was good and then wonder why their restaurants were not packed out ..
absolutely correct.
We used to eat at Sultans in Bitez a lot, always packed beacause his prices were always lower than competition, always willing to do "freebies" for regulars, but the other restaurant owners used to complain to everyone that he was destroying their businesses.
But would they take him on and lower their prices... no-way!
They did the opposite and raised their prices to offset their lack of trade!
I know for a fact (we have had a friend staying with us this week from Bitez) that there is going to be more changes this year.
CJ.s is no more. shame but I know their rent was really high!!!
I used to spend a lot of time in Sultan too when used to visit Bitez a lot. I first went there in 1995 I think and they had tables on the beach, that was before they paved the walkway over and you had to walk down the beach.

Exactly Del and seen it myself on numerous occasions . Why do they do that

The only one we ever had problems re hassle with (spoken of this before)
Difficult to feel any sympathy.
I remember Elvis at the Golden spoon telling us last season that he wanted CJ.s to expand into.
As for Sultans , it was really Tommy (Ali) who used to be at the Blue Moon that made us want to go in the first place as he and Gisella were good friends to us.
AFAIK he is living in Holland now.
edit. if it is open this coming season, the restaurant that replaced the Istanbul was really good last year, but I don't know if it made money as the quality, portions and freebies must have taken most of the profits.
Did you know Ali and Gisella had a beautiful baby boy last month? think he is staying in Holland again this Summer...we keep in touch through Face Book but saw him last year in October. We did not try that new restaurant.....we tended to eat a lot at the Pedesa last year good food and very very cheap.
when you're next in touch give them congrats from Evelyn and Derrick please.

Last year we chose Turkey for the first time but it had never really been a country I fancied visiting. After research on this site and others we chose Icmeler but our decision was mainly based on the fact that we thought we'd get more for our money. Whilst we found this to be true, we also found Turkey to be just as enjoyable a holiday destination as many of the resorts we had previously loved in Greece and Cyprus, so much so we booked for Oludeniz later in the year. We'd never have known this if our arm hadn't been twisted by the drop in the Euro rate. With the Euro exchange rate still being poor its Turkey again for us this year. I can now honestly say that even if the prices rose to the same levels as those throughout the Eurozone countries, we would be just as likely to take future holidays in Turkey as we would any other European country and I never thought I'd say that before we went!
