Taxi drivers, Huh. We made friends with one, he asked for our e-mail address so he could keep in touch. After we got back, he sent us an e-mail asking if he could "borrow" £500. !!!!!!!!
speaking of vicious creatures i remember last time in goa me & husb were in the sea about 5m offshore at candolim, all of a sudden 3 little fish jumped out of & skipped across the water just in front of us inbetween us & the shore...........we wernt worried about the little fishies but did cross our minds 'whats down there chasing the little fish making them jump out of the sea to get away'
we both decided at the same time....right enough of the swim time for another beer & headed out rapidly!

just read your post re little fish jumping out of the water while you were in the sea.....a few years back my hubby and i were in mexico and we were out in a little boat not too far of the beach .....and we heard splash splash splash and lots of little fish were jumping out of the water ......... to our horror we saw what we think was a sharks mouth comming out after them ......never mind the beer it was a stiff brandy for us
Been to Candolim 3 times and saw a rat for the first time this year. It was huge. I would say about as big as a kitten. It was in a restaurant thats in the top 10 but Im not saying which as it would be unfair to the establishment which I must say is absolutely spotless. The owners knew about the rats and were annoyed as they came from a place next door where the owners left rubbish out. Our relatives have seen many rats over the years but all of these have been in the busy areas of Calangute which I dont think is as clean as Candolim. Take more than a few rats to put me off going. Give me Goan rats over Canary cockroaches anyday.
Just had an email from a friend who has a flat near the Daytripper office to tell me a fully grown wil leopard has been caught in a garden two miles south of there Thers a fair ammount of concern among the locals re this as they are normally found in deep jungle. Mabey it was attracted by all the rats!!! Alan

saw a yellow lizard, dogs cows elephants and a weird bug which looked half like a lizard and half like a roach...not too sure if it had wings though...the other half nearly peed his pants lol...it was minging.

That has freaked me out. I shall now have eyes everywhere looking for a mutant lizard roach thing!!!Does any one know what this is??!!! I need it to be identified before i go!!
re beasties if you go in to the photo galleries and go to the calangute pictures .....you will see the beastie that landed on my husband at the pool in the nizmar hotel.........

oh this subject saw a humungous lizard strolling (at dusk) accros the road
that leads to the Peacock Pub (down towards to the beach shacks - dinner maybe!!) Anyway it was about 3 foot long from head to toe took no notice of all the people around - it really looked as if it did not have a care in the world and knew exactly who was frightened of who!!!

We had 2 cockroaches in our room. Maybe nothing compared to a leopard or a snake but I would rather take on the leopard any day!!

I read a thread called "death in Goa" on the Holiday Watchdog Indian Ocean Forum. It's very frightening what happened to this poor Russian tourist, I've never given a second thought to the fact that there could be deadly aquatic lifeforms around the seas of Goa!!!
