The Tourist Visa to enter Turkey is still £10 for each UK passport holder. Although it doesn't affect most visitors, for others it can be important to note that the "3-months" quoted on most Visa inforamtion lists actually means 90 days.

Friends of ours, who own a holiday home here in Çeşme / İzmir, assumed the maximum stay was three calendar months and were quite heavily fined at the airport on their journey back to England as they had overstayed by just a couple of days!

UK citizens £10 ; EU citizens : €15 ; US citizens : $20 ; till 2011 december

The official visa info and prices page of Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is below...

My wife and children have Dutch passports but I presume they can also pay £10 rather than €15, especially as we will be arriving from the UK?

Netherlands: Ordinary passport holders are required to have visa to enter Turkey. They can obtain three month-multiple entry visas at the Turkish border gates. Official passport holders are exempt from visa for their travels up to 90 days.

Fees: Netherlands-3 Months-20 $ - 15 Euro - 10 £

Does anyone know if there is any truth in the rumour that you can only have one 90 day visa every 180 days now?

Some people have recently been getting a new visa stamp with "Multiple entry visa valid for an intended stay of no more than 90days per period of 180days. Duration begins on the date of entry to Turkey. Holder has no right to work" on.

At the moment the Turkish consulate are saying nothing has changed in the visa wording and no-one knows whether there has been some kind of mix up with the visa stamps.

So who knows what is happening :que

Yes, this has been reported on a couple of other forums. Any change, or planned change, has been denied by the Turkish authorities.

I understand the story originated as a result of a Visa stamp placed on a UK Passsport at Dalaman airport. It now appears that passport control used a stamp for use on Russian passports rather than British ones and that it was a one-off incident.

I do know of several people either arriving at an aiport or ferry terminal who have had the usual stamp applied to their passport in recent days.

It wasn't just one person, I know a couple of people who have had that stamp, however it could have been a batch that was used by mistake.

The Balaerics used to have a tourist tax (or something similar) that was scrapped, not sure if the EU forced them to do this. Is this something similar, whereby a country levies a meaningless charge on tourists entering the country to spend money, keep locals in work and help their economy?

Why do not all countries have to pay this charge (someone said germans don't ?), this is the kind of thing that can be a decider (for some) whether they holiday in Turkey or elsewhere.

My local airport (Blackpool) levied a £10 regeneration fee for every adult passeneger. Ryaniar immediately pulled out of the airport and passenger numbers dropped. I factor this cost in when deciding where is cheapest to fly from, whereas previously i would always try to fly out of my local airport.

Although this is only a small % of the overall cost, it's just money being shelled out for no reason IMO.

Many countries have a vise cost for entering, you are just lucky that with a British passport you don't have to pay them most of the time. It costs a Turkish visitor far more to come to the UK for a holiday and there are so many rules about entering that many peopl would find it impossible to get a visa even if they could afford it. Citizens of many other countries have to pay for a visa for entering the UK too. Do you think that is a meaningless charge too ?

I hardly think £10 is a lot of money anyway! Just think yourslef lucky that a British passport gives you the freedom to travel to so many countries without restrictions.

As for Germans, I have no idea why they don't have to pay :que

I always thought it was something to do with the fact that there are so many Turkish people living in Germany (approx 3 million) but as there are around 6 other European countries that don't need a visa I'm not so sure.
As Kedi says it costs someone from Turkey a much higher amount to obtain a visa to visit the UK an extra 10pounds on top of our holiday price doesn't seem too much.

Fair enough, I think you have a point - its the same rules when folk from certain other countries come to the UK.

Personally I think where a tourist is entering a popular holiday destination for a short holiday adding much needed ££££ to that countries economy, then this should be taken into consideration. But as you say, its not a high price to pay, it just seems money for nothing to me.

I fly out in about 10 days and really looking forward! I will pay my £10 x 4 for my family because I have to, not that I agree with it, but there you are!

cpandk,

The £10 charge at Blackpool is an Airport Development Fund as they needed to raise money for runway and taxiway repairs as well as other essential items. The £10 to enter Turkey is a visa so completely different. Outside of europe, visas and tourist departure / entry taxes are common.

Hi, this is for Dande or anyone with any up to date information. I overstayed my visa by 1 day on the 28th June. I was fined 156 Lira but only had 60 lira and a credit card which they would not take. I am banned for 5 years unless I go to the Turkish Embassy in London and pay around £68 for my visa but the airport police and the Turkish Embassy web site say I also still have to pay the fine when I go back on re entry. The money dosen't worry me I just want to know for sure I can get a visa. It does say so on the form I was given at the airport and on their web sit. I hope I am just panicking needlessly.

We usually do long lets in Turkey, recently we have seen an artical in one of the papers, basically that we can only stay in Turkey for 90 days in any 6 month period, any one any news ??
So cant come and go as we normally would, recent visitors have 90 day and 180 day stamp can anyone varify this, cannot get anything offical at present, please look at your passports we have been here since May ( we are blessed) so our's is just the old 90 day one, anyone seen any info at Dalaman.
Those who live here are worried as they will have to pay for longer visa and residency. :que
