We were told that everyone has to each get their own. I would take $ and sterling the right money. We had to pay in sterling in june, and kimevans went the same time and paid in $ so every day it seems is different.
I don't even think its a different story everyday, I think me & you went the same day!!!!
I was a morning flight from Gatwick on the 22 June, isn't that the same day you went?
He tried the old sterling thing with me, but I said I KNOW its $15, either I pay in that or I don't buy a visa (because they can't make you buy one at the airport ).
He said we don't take dollars
I said well tell me who does
Thats when he pointed me to the two boxes a little further from where you entered the visa area. They had BANK wrote on top, I thought they were money change when I first when towards them
Im a bit worried after reading a few posts on here about getting Visas. I am going to Sharm el Sheikh (which if ive read correctly i dont need a visa), but i will be wanting to go on a couple of excursions. Mainly i just want to go quadbiking through the desert, Ras Mohammed (by boat) and maybe a waterpark. Will i need a visa to go here?
Many Thanks
In the visa thread of this forum you will find that it says visas are required for Ras Mohammed. I am travelling with Thomsons to Sharm next week and plan to go on their Ras Mohhamed boat trip. I phoned Thomsons to confirm whether a visa is required as I had done this trip with Thomas Cook in March and although I had already bought a visa then I don't remember being asked to prove it when booking the trip. The Thomson guy said that if you are travelling on the Thomsons own excursion the visa is included in the price. Don't know if this information is of any help but thought I'd pass it on anyway....
hi anyone just come back, from sharm, is it still 15$ per person, for a visa, and do you go to the one with Bank over it, have read loads of threads, but just wanted an update, we are off next monday
My husband and daughter went to Ras Mohammed by boat with thomson and didnt need a visa.
Whether or not you're asked to show it is a different matter but you'd be well advised to get your visa if you know you'll be doing a trip to Ras.
Its better to take it of course, but the fact still remains that their passports stayed in the hotel, they never took them as thomson said it was within the sinai, i never went as i get sea sick
hi
My wife and i are travelling to Sharm and staying at The Conrad in November, we are planning to go on the night trip into the desert and we are wondering if we need to get a visa when we arrive or will we be able to go on the trip without. Thanks
Thanks for such a prompt reply, the trip we are looking foreword to is the bedouin supper so it looks like we don't need a visa.If anyone could give me any information on this trip i would be grateful also any info on the Conrad hotel would be very handy, thanks again
Are you sure about there being a £10 fee for entering Egypt?? We've never paid an entry fee, not that I recall anyway
Dave.
We are going to Sharm this weekend, if we go on the trip to St Catherines monastry or a boat trip, do we need a visa?
We are going to Taba in March and the only trips we intend doing are to Petra and Mount Sinai at Dawn/dusk. Do we need a visa? If so when/where do we get it from? Do we pay in sterling or dollars and how much is it please?
Can someone please answer my questions for me? Thanks.
It certainly adds to the confusion when the crew on the plane tell passengers they MUST have a visa regardless!
Thanks very much for that Everest.
THIS locked thread about visas, I emailed Libra about discrepancies on their site.
The reply I got back...

With reference to Dear Sir/Madam
Could you please explain why on this page http://www.libraholidays.co.uk/pages/need_to_know.asp it clearly states:
Visas are required for ALL visits to Egypt...
Please note that if you choose to obtain your visa locally on arrival, it will have to be paid for in Pounds Sterling
This is untrue. Visas are NOT required if you stay in the Sinai region (unless you stay for 15 days or more), they instead receive a free entry permission stamp upon arrival. Therefore people staying in Sharm el Sheikh, Nuweiba, Dahab, Taba etc do NOT need to buy one unless they plan to venture to Cairo, Luxor etc.
Also the visas can be obtained by paying in US$ (in which the visas are actually priced).
As that same page also states:
As travel regulations constantly change, we as tour operators are unable to provide up-to-date information concerning such requirements
As you are "unable to provide up-to-date information", why give information that is clearly untrue?
I know of someone that has a holiday booked (online with Libra) to Sharm el Sheikh. Their receipt clearly states,in bold "You must purchase a visa on entry to Egypt at the airport, failure to do so could result in non admission". How many people, believing travel companies, waste money buying visas that are not required?
The Libra site also states "Libra Holidays are specialists in Egypt holidays". Clearly they are not as specialized as they think!
Looking forward to your explanation.
The reply I got back...
As you quite rightly state, visas are not required for passengers intending to spend the whole duration of their holiday in the Red Sea area. However, those choosing to visit Cairo, Luxor and other parts of Egypt outside the Red Sea area during their holiday are required to get a visa on arrival at the airport. We have found, from experience, that many of our guests who do not have a visa, subsequently regret this as it ties them to the Red Sea area and it does not enable them to travel further afield within Egypt. It is for this reason that we strongly recommend that our guests acquire a visa on arrival since we have experienced many disappointed guests who wish who have expressed their wish to see more of Egypt but have not been able to do so due to the lack of a visa. As you are aware, Egypt has the most famous historical sites in the world and a visa therefore, allows guests the freedom of movement in order that they may wish to visit some of these sites.
We would also explain that experience has shown that if guests need to be repatriated for any reason whatsoever or require medical assistance, if they do not have a visa we are unable to move them to a hospital outside the Red Sea area or arrange a return flight from any other airport. Under the circumstances, we believe that a visa is a necessary requirement and this is the reason for the statement on our website.
With regards to payment of the visas, we would confirm that guests are unable to pay for these in local currency. Whilst they may be able to pay for these in US dollars, it does not seem feasible to advise our clients to change money into US dollars, and possibly incur exchange charges, when they are able to pay for the visas in Pounds Sterling.
In closing, we would thank you for your observations and trust that we have clarified our position in this matter
