The probable reason for why Thomson won;t let you book for him to return on the same flight as you, is that if airlines fly somebody into any UK who is then refused entrance to the UK, then it is their responsibility to fly them back to wherever they came in from. Charter and low cost companies operate on full planes and are unlikely to have an empty seat on the next Tunisian bound plane whereas scheduled airlines are much more likely to have an empty seat going and can, at relatively lower cost, accept the burden of flying them home for free. However, once somebody has already gained entrance to the UK and is flying out to Tunisia from the UK the chances of them being refused re-entry lessen and hence why they will sell you a round ticket to and from the UK but won't sell you a one-way ticket to the UK from Tunisia.

thanks Sma for your help seems a bit more hopeful now if if i have to pay a return flight at least we can travel together as hes neverflow before cheers ! sharon
Do you mean that you are thinking of therefore trying to book him a return ticket from London with Thomson and only use the inbound half of the ticket? If you do then don't do that either - if the outbound half isn't used they'll cancel the ticket immediately on the grounds that h was a 'no show'. The logic being that if he didn't use the outbound flight, well, he never went to Tunisia in the first place and will have no need of the return flight. Either way he'll still be refused boarding in Tunisia.
It might work if you book him a return flight Tunisia/London/Tunisia as long as he can definitely produce a visa at check-in for entry into the UK but Thomson will know that he could still be denied entry here and might be reluctant to accept the booking even so. And in fact I've just noticed that he'll be trying to gain entry on a visitors visa, in which case unless he can produce evidence of having a return flight booked then there's a good chance that he will be denied entry even if you book with a scheduled airline. In the absence of such proof that he will be returning to Tunisia at some point before the visitors visa expires then they will be worried that he might be intending to try and remain in this country illegally.
I think that you have no option other than for him to fly with one of the scheduled airlines but before booking any tickets you really should check out what his chances are of being granted a visitors visa and whether the conditions of such a visa will include being able to produce a return ticket back to Tunisia before being allowed to entre the UK. If you book the tickets first then you stand the chance of both him being denied entry and of you losing the money paid out for his flights. If you want to be able to travel together from Tunisia then it might be best to simply book your own flights on the same scheduled carrier as you are able to book him on to.

As others have said, make sure he has his visitor's visa before you book any flights at all for him. Once he has that, if you want him to travel with you it would be better for you to book an outbound flight for yourself from the UK then book return flights for both of you from Tunis with either BA or Tunisair, even if you don't intend to use your return flight. I know it sounds strange, but the cost of a return flight can be cheaper than a single from Tunisia. Friends of mine have done this. The wife flew to the UK last year in readiness for the birth of their baby and her husband joined her soon after, on a return ticket. They will not be using his return as they will be getting considerably cheaper flights with BA when they return to Tunisia to show off their baby boy to his grandparents.
hi thanks for your helpful comments with flights. I have already booked my return flight in october with thomsons thinking that my boyfriend could hopefully buy a seat on the same flight (pending visitors visa) but now i realize this may not be the option, so i may just forfiet my return ticket and book one return for him and one single for me from Tunis to London, do you need to go to tunis and buy tickets or can you buy from Mon astir airport/sousse area and whos the cheapest tunisair or ba ??? any ideas folks - thanks for all your help

However, I've also priced up a return flight for a month and this works out at a much more reasonable TDN 115 e/w.
