Me again!
Looking for a Summer holiday and after avoiding Scotland for years[after a disappointing holiday]I'm ready to try again!
Have been looking at Wemyss Bay[west?Scotland}
There's a Parkdean site there and I'd like to know if anyone's been to either the site or area?I'm worried there won't be enough to do,particularly if the weather's a bit dreary!
The brochure mentions the isle of Bute and i think there's some kind of theme park nearby!Help!!
Might post some other messages on other possible hols/areas!

Don't know the campsite, but it is certainly a nice area. Plenty of nice wee areas to visit up and down the ayrshire coast, not too sure about indoor activities if the weather is bad though. You can also take some ferry trips across to some of the islands too which is nice
we have just purchased a mobile on the site, so we quite liked what we saw ... of course it is more a weekend thing for us! Believe me, if you got the weather on that coast you wouldnt go abroad - it looked spectacular (if a bit cold!) when the sun was shining over the water at the weekend!
my kids said they cant wait to go back which i hope answers your qustion and my two year old was upset when we left to go home look out for the special offers we got ours for £170 between us so all i paid was £85 for the weekend and the site is not that expensive either £1.50 for a hotdog or cheeseburger sorry cider they didnt do a veggie bar b q.
def gonna go back , cider if you are renting out your van give me a shout am going back this year and looking for a deal!
Sorry, but we are using it virtually every weekend
Where's the nearest supermarket?
What would you recommend to do?
Are there any places in the vicinity(PUBS?)which you could recommend for meals?
etc...
Also,if anyone stayed on this Parkdean site recently would like to know what you think???????
Thanks everyone!
It's a lovely area ... take a ferry trip over to the Isle of Bute, the Isle of Arran, Isle of Cumbrae (very cycle friendly - some pics on my website) or across to Dunoon .... or take trips to Largs, Ayr, etc ... you also have Loch Lomond not a million miles away, or leave the car and jump on the train to Glasgow for some shopping ... tons of stuff to do!! In fact, if it's a sunny day, we sometimes take the deckchairs and just park up south of a wee place called Seamill and sit on the beach .... sand, blue skies, and the isle of arran in the background ... lovely!
If you are looking for major supermarkets, there is a 24hr Tesco in Greenock (around 7 miles away) and Greenock and Largs both have Morrisons too (7 miles to Larg as well) .... although i have to say that the Londis shop in Inverkip is quite good, does a nice french loaf, and is much handier to Wemyss Bay
I tend to avoid the onsite Bar as i find it's a bit extortionate, but there is another campsite further up the hill from Parkdean, and the social club there is cheap and cheerful ... never tried the Wemyss Bay hotel yet for some grub - i hear they do a decent Indian, but can't confirm sorry!!
Hope that helps!!
Still like to hear from others who have been in the area!
Not a great deal of pics, but check here for some ideas of where you can go:
JWeb Falkirk 'Doon the Water' page' Also click into the Cumbrae walks link at the top
Boys are 8(twins!!)
Is there some kind of theme park nr there?Think i read something once! Also are there some pubs in the vicinity which serve food? The Wemyss Bay hotel sounded interesting-we love curry!
Wemyss Bay is so small, that i can't really think of any more pubs, apart from the small one at the station. I have heard the restaurant at the Marina at Inverkip is quite nice too, and if you don't want to take the car, it's one stop up on the train These local sites might help:
Wemyss Bay
Inverkip
Largs
Also ... if you like Chinese food, the local takeaway in Skelmorlie will deliver to the site, all you need to do is give them your pitch number
Thank you for all your help Cider monster!Much appreciated! Will try to think of some other questions for you!!
If anyone is staying here, i'd thouroughly recommend a trip along to Gourock (around 7 miles north) to the open air swimming pool - i only tried it for the first time at that weekend and it's great!
Have just returned from WEMYSS BAY and would like to say what a great time we all had!Lovely park with nice views over the Clyde!Friendly staff and excellent service(when we ran out of gas someone sorting it within 5 mins!!)The best thing about this park is definately the location!Ferry terminal to the Isle of Bute across the road, lovely seaside town of Largs 10 mins down the road, historic castles and Glasgow 45 mins away if you get bad weather!Irony is that ,although it was raining in England virtually all last week,we only had the odd shower in lovely Scotland!Would recommend and use again!!
I'm such a regular there now, i probably don't appreciate how great the area is!!! I'm all for simple pleasures though, and just driving round the coast road from the park to Largs on a sunny day is awesome enough for me!
I'm glad you felt nice and welcome too, sometimes people from down south worry about the welcome they will get in Scotland, but i'm sure as you have seen, it's always good ... Haste ye back
Would second all that,CiderMonster!Looking at those amazing houses driving down to Largs was wonderful for me too!We will definately be returning to Scotland during the next couple of years-mainly because people WERE so friendly.eg.went in a small art gallery with my boys near Dunoon and the owner gave my boys a jigsaw puzzle to do whilst we browsed!?!nice touch!
Ah yes, those big houses by the sea ... i have my eye on one of those ....
Caravan park lovely and clean, pool smaller than I'd thought it would be but kids didn't mind, play area was fantastic, location perfect, view from caravan was amazing and caravan (Scott) spotless - can't complain at all apart from prices in the park shop - daylight robbery springs to mind!
We had a day in Dumbarton (where my family come from) and did the castle, then onto Loch Lomond and the Sealife Centre there and we also had a trip to Largs and Irvine (know what you mean about those houses) and our last day we went to see the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith (not something I'd do again with kids as they were bored).
Would definitely go back to Wemyss Bay!
