Edit to correct link which was stretching the page.
Thanks Helen, I'd never heard the word before, I learn something new every week. Wonder where the name came from. I think I'll stick with trainers or sneakers.
we call them daps in wales
I used to call them daps years ago but call them trainers now (I live in Wales too), some people call them pumps.
was going say pumps.. yea I've always known them as daps.. but some people call them pumps.. i also like the Ballerina Pump style aswell
We always called them pumps , in Lankyshire, and wore them for PE at school.
Sandshoes in the North East or plimsolls
That's what my Dad used to call them Glynis, and he was from Devon
pli msolls was common down here as well, but daps was the most popular name. We even had a PE instructor in our youth club, who went by the name of Dappo

warm enough for traveling and 3/4 am at the airport.....and coming home...and handy enough to roll up and put in your bag when you dont need it...
and my balley type trainers...which have been chewed by my dog this week ..so looking for new ones .... I loved them sandal trainers...they were suede and leather so didnt make my feet sweat...and the straps were velcro so when feet swell can loosen...and easy on and off ....tweetie
edited trying to put an image...sorry only a link
When I flew to Jersey, I wear baggy jeans, an easy to remove belt, trainers and a large boyfriend cardigan Than that was a short flight. For other journeyes I always wear something comfy
I always wear a long scarf and if anyone near me starts coughing and howking I can put it over my nose and mouth to prevent me ending up with their germs.
New clothes for me for the flight this year. I'll be wearing three quarter blue chinos, with a blue top with pink butterflies on it. I will take a denim jacket too as I sometimes find the flight a little cold. The baby will be wearing a pink nike tracksuit and t-shirt.
1) Dress for the departure weather, completely forgetting the weather will be completely different when you arrive, thus i've seen people wearing spagetti tops & hotpants in manchester or Sweaters in Tunisia
2) Dress like a troublemaker. If you're travelling wearing novelty t-shirts announcing your hen night or football shirts, then people make assumptions about you. Not only will you be under closer scrutiny for alcohol consumption but you'll find it's very unlikely you're offer complimentary upgrades etc.
3) Dress up in their heaviest or more awkward to pack clothes, leaving them in the most unsuitable clothes for actually travelling.
So for years when i've been travelling from the UK to the med or north africa i've worn the same things.
Trainers (take up more room than deck shoes or sandels in suitcase)
Plain chinos
Brightly coloured T-Shirt
Unbuttoned shirt over the top.
Jacket (if i'm taking one)
Not only can i fasten/remove the shirt depending on the weather/air con/etc but i still look like a decent passenger, despite travelling to the exact same place as a lot of the people who look like troublemakers are.

Good advice....
Over the years I've made the mistake of getting really dressed up for my flight which is always at the unsocial hours of the morning and normally between 8 and 12 hours long, so I'm wearing evening dresses and high heels.
This year I'm thinking of a velour jogging suit with a t shirt underneath, I can take the jacket off if it gets too hot. I'm also planning on bringing a pair of loose fitting shorts to change into at the end of the flight, it will only take 30 seconds to change as I'll already have the t shirt on and it'll be more suitable for arriving in the Caribbean mid August
Good advice from ringmaster , and common sense too !! I usually wear slip on shoes that are very comfortable , sometimes jeans or chinos and a casual collared shirt with a lightweight smart jacket . I'm off in around 4 weeks time and just need to buy some new sunglasses , looking at aviator style as I don't have those already and they should look good for when we get met in the airport and taken off for a helicopter transfer to the hotel .
I would tend to wear my heavy clothes to avoid weight in the case! So this year for our flight to Chicago I shall be wearing my walking boots (which are very comfortable) and a leather jacket. Jeans and a hoody. The boots are a bit of a pain at check in but weigh more than the other two pairs I plan to pack.
I wore my black walking boots when I flew up North for the exact same reason they where heavy. Didn't mind having to remove them at security either.
