Today I received a bog standard email stating that the plane is not going to be a Monarch plane, it's going to be a 'wet-lease'.
I thought 'well that's nothing to get worried about because airlines wet- lease at various times.'
The email said .....
Flight number: ZB7448.
As part of our continued expansion, we are pleased to be able to offer you a wider choice of routes and airports to fly from. As we introduce our new services, it has become necessary for us to temporarily use another carefully chosen airline to operate your flight.
Your flight number and time of departure will remain the same and pre-ordered food will still be available. You will also be able to purchase food and drinks onboard; however we are sorry that tax free products will not be available to purchase on board.
So, I thought OK, I'll have a look around the internet and see what airline/aircraft I'll be flying on.
This 'wet leasing' is attracting a lot of negative posts on Monarch's FB page and other forums. No, I'm being too kind here, the internet is FULL of complaints.
Posts which are describing.....
Delays due to technical hitches or glitches
Rickety seats.
Gaffa tape used on the seats.
Filthy interior and mould growing on the ceiling.
No air conditioning, the overhead cold air vents had been taped over.
Broken meal trays.
Smaller seat pitch.
Bone shaker take offs/landings.
Slovakian or Lithuanian cabin crew only able to speak 'broken english', with just ONE Monarch personnel in the cabin (presumably speaking fluent English )
Passengers absolutely furious paying a decent price for a Monarch flight and ending up on plane that's only fit for the 3rd world
Some passengers actually cancelling their flight and losing their money, rather than stepping onto these old planes.
I'm now starting to get worried, so, I did some more delving and I wish I never had.
The plane has been wet leased from ' Small Planet Airlines' and the average age of their fleet is 19 years old.
LY-FLJ Boeing 737-3K2 which is the plane that's operating both EMA - Alicante or EMA - Malaga.
This plane's first flight was 20-04-1989 - Which makes it 23 YEARS OLD.
Of course the T&C's state that the airline(s) can lease in/out planes, so there is no chance of trying to argue on the change of aircraft, but > A carefully chosen airline to operate my flight?
I DON'T THINK SO !
I'm not a 'good' flyer at the best of times, and I'm now pooing bricks about this flight.
