I split this from the Ronil Beach thread. It may have gone unnoticed where it was.
The only Sunset Beach hotel I know of is opposite Whispering Palms in Candolim - Is this the one you mean?
We stayed in the Sunset Beach last April. It's a small, very friendly hotel. We thought it was clean and comfortable. The rooms have a fridge, a safe and A/C. We didn't try their Bistro as it had closed for the season but we heard good reviews about it from other people. We liked the location of the hotel as it was very close to the beach, down a side road, so it was quiet, but close enough to walk to the restaurants and bars. We really liked it and are returning this Sat for 2 weeks.
Clean and comfortable with really friendly and helpful staff. Nice little pool and lawned grounds with sunbeds. Breakfasts are either cereal or porridge with toast, coffe and fruit juice. When we were there the hotel had free buffets for residents 3 evenings a week. Food was okay but not as good as nearby restaraunts.
Very short walk to beach. As you walk down to the beach there are now incredible views of the grounded tanker which fills the horizon.
Overall we would rate the sunset beach as clean, very friendly, comfortable rooms with air conditioning and good value for money.
Candolim.
The rooms were very basic but as expected. There was a safe, fridge (at extra cost - 600 rupees per week), air conditioning at extra cost (paid in UK on booking).
Some of the bed sheets had some holes in. Didn't bother me but might bother some.
Towels were a bit stiff/crispy. Changed each day.
Bathroom was large but a bit dated looking. Everything worked fine and shower was relatively powerful.
Staff friendly.
There seemed to be some food available in the bar but I didn't eat there.
The Bistro next door has very good food and a nice atmosphere. It serves European food if you are after a break from the Goan/Indian or whatever.
Short walk (maybe 5 minutes) to the beach. Past some stalls/shops full of pushy saleswomen.
Didn't use the pool as went to the beach. The pool looked like it would be in the shade for the majority of the day.
I would recommend it and we are thinking of using it again.
