Hi, I suppose it depends on how lively you like your nightlife  Praia da Rocha is the liveliest resort in the Algarve afaik. I've never been there, as the description (tower blocks/concrete jungle) put me off. We have been to Praia d'Oura (new part of Albufeira, by the beach), Vilamoura (probably too quiet for you) and Armacao de Pera (very quiet, not much to do).

I'd say you might enjoy the Old town of Albufeira. It's lively but not crazy. It has a lovely beach, good restaurants and plenty of bars and also live music on the street. In the new town you have Kiss disco that goes on till 7-8 am. There is plenty of good accommodation in the old town, and 1/2 way between the old & new town for the best of both worlds.

I can only second what Annie says. Somewhere like the Brisa Sol, Paraiso Cerro Branco, Real Bela Vista or Cerro Alagoa hotels are inbetween hotels you could consider

But you will not find anywhere lively that does not have Brits there, same as any other seaside resort in Europe, or the world for that matter!

That's helpful, thank you. Of course I am happy for other Brits to be there, just what we are not looking for is a Faliraki type place.

Can't think of anywhere on the Algarve that resembles Faliraki :hmmm (thank God).
I agree with the others.......midway between old town and new town will give you the best of both worlds
