To me the worst offends are the brits who have worst behaved children.
When I stayed at sol mirlos palma nova it was a amazing sight when the doors opened at 9am to let guests to get a sunbed. It was a stampede with people putting their kids in the space they wanted.
I saw one woman shimmering up a palm tree to be first to get a sunbed off the stack.
I wished I had a digital camera in those day and filmed it, I would of made a few bob out of you been framed. I couldn't stop laughing.
Stayed in a hotel majorca this year the gran vista which was 99% german and there were sunbeds at mid-day when we normally come down, and sometimes we went down after 2 pm and there sunbeds. If the hotel was 99% british the sunbeds would of towels on them at 6am and if you not down by 9am they would of all been gone.
I certainly can think of better thimgs to do and see than A daily sprint to the "best" sunbed position!
But in all honesty we found the Germans the worst for reserving when we were in Majorca.
As for the children, as long as mine are behaving that is all I am concerned about
Definitely the Brits. We have been in hotel where the clientele were all British and there was no chance of getting a sunbed after 9am. Doesn't bother us as I'm not a sun worshipper.
I'm afraid my attitude is 'If you can't beat them, join them' so if I'm staying in a hotel frequented by sunbed nabbers I do the same.
at our hotel in turkey this year the pool area was taped over until 8am . Everyone started queing at 7am . I was normally one of the first to arrive at 8am you were given the wink by the turkish pool guy and it was like the january sales . You had to literally throw your towels on the sunbeds as you ran . I couldnt stop laughing on my first morning it was like a stampede . I had never experienced that before . But I had to get good at it if we wanted to be around the pool as by 1 minute past 8am all beds were taken
lyn
but to be fair I am a morning person.
Me too When I'm in Egypt I'm almost always up and showered by sunrise (which is about 06.10 in early August). I'm often on the beach in time to watch the sun rising from the end of the jetty. Then I go and have breakfast and I'm usually back on my sunbed by 07.30! So I'm not depriving any early-risers
Early morning is a very special time in Eygpt I have to agree pips. The best time of the day. I always leave the curtains open when we go to bed and Im always woken by the bright sun early .Im sure the sun is up 5-5.30 at easter when we go.people are sunbathing at 6.30. the downside is its gone by 5pm and getting dark at 6pm.
I wouldn't bother putting the towels down before breakfast if it was just the two of us but it's a job to get beds together if we're in our usual group of 6.
They also prefer you to use their pool towels (which have to be signed for). The pool boys will often come with you to move your sunbed and put your towel on the bed for you. That way they can keep an eye on who is on which bed.
If your sunbed remains empty for more than a couple of hours (around lunchtime/early afternoon), they assume that you no longer need your bed and remove the towel from your sunbed and allow other people to use it.
We have found this stops arguments.
I have never put a towel on a sunbed before I use it I just come down after breakfast, usually around 8.30am and take my pick.If there are towels on I wait until 9.30 then remove them by folding them onto a nearby chair!.I have never been challenged by the offenders. In the Hemera in Side the Germans were using the parasols on the beach as windbreaks so I just took one.
Gerry is certainly the worst offender in this ballgame! also a habit of looking down their noses at the British holidaymakers, if you think the sunbed lark is bad - study them closely in the dining room at your hotel, theyre plates are stacked sooo big it would feed a family of 8 at one sitting!
Hi ctoan - One January a few years ago, we were staying at the Mouradi Mahdia Hotel. There were a total of 16 guests in all - me and Frank and 14 German guests - who incidentally, were really lovely to us and made every effort to make us feel part of their group. Despite there being over 500 sunbeds around the pool, every morning, at some ungodly hour, 2 of the male guests went out and reserved their 6 beds. I found this totally amazing and with our limited German/English tried to ask them why this was necessary. I never did get an answer! It wasn't a problem for us as we waited until the other guests had settled in and then had the pick of the other 480 odd beds! It takes all sorts doesn't it! Jenny x
I have found when staying mostly in a brit hotel there is the mad stampede but when I have stayed in a mostly german hotel its all more relaxed and civilised.
I am going to film the stampede next and send it to you have been framed, because the lenths some people go to, to get a sunbed is hilarious.
Keep up the good work brits and towels at dawn. No thats meant to be pistols at dawn.
I haven't stayed in a hotel since back in the 80s where anyone has ever reserved sunbeds in this way. I do tend to stay in small hotels/apartments though, maybe that's got something to do with it.
Unfortunately, I'm a single mum with two teenagers who like to be in the thick of the action/entertainment, and if we stayed in a small hotel we'd probably have a very boring holiday. It's a fact of life that all big family hotels (kids clubs, 24/7 entertainment etc) are going to have a sunbed shortage and consequently there will always be the sunbed run in the mornings.I haven't stayed in a hotel since back in the 80s where anyone has ever reserved sunbeds in this way. I do tend to stay in small hotels/apartments though, maybe that's got something to do with it.
We stayed in Egypt at Hyatt Regency in Taba in December, there were plenty to go round at whatever time of day..we stayed at Taurito Princess in Gran Can in November and they did not allow sunbeds to be reserved. If there were towels down, the staff used to chuck them in the pool!!!
I am one of those people who tends not to spend much time on a sunbed because I cannot sit still for long enough anyway..but generally, i have noticed people of all nationalities scrambling to reserve them with no particular nation worse than another..but maybe dare i say it....the germans or the russians (that has been my experience on the last 2 hols)
Hence my mentioning the 80s as I was a teenager then and so we were at the larger hotels where there was indeed a shortage of sunbeds.
I'm one of those selfish childless adults who avoid family hotels you see.
We had breakfast at about 8am then went outside to not one sunbed!
We heard people going out at 5 am to put towels out which was ridiculous really, we usually did one day round the hotel, then the next out somewhere the hotel was HB then and is now AI so the sun bed problem must be worse as people stay at the hotel all the time now.
The worse offenders are those that do it then go off for the day and return at 5pm ! If i had my way i would run round throwing them all in the pools. To avoid the problem the hotels should really allocate you sunbeds to avoid these problems!
As for kids ours are well behaved , some however let them run round screaming for hours. We let them stay up as we dont leave kids in rooms.apts alone but we make sure they behave I just wish others would too. Mind you saying that you get some right miserable older people who could be the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang, these people moan about every squeek they make and should go to a adult only hotel!
Who are worst offender for putting the towels on the sunbeds
the "offenders" who put towels out are the worst. anyone doing this is the worst offender
i move them. stick up for your rights. tell the management, do something or it will never change
This is looking 50/50 at the moment.
I really think hotels should police the sunbeds and remove any towels on the sunbed if there is no activity for a hour. Anybody putting a towel on the sunbed before 10am should have the towel removed unless they are in the pool. Welcome to my hotel sunbed police state
If the hotel has no sunbeds left and there is a grassed area, down my towel goes and I am quite happy. I do it on the beach all the time and not what some of you are thinking, putting my towel on the sand.
