With respect to our members who post in complaints section trying to assist, a thought that occurs. Do we create a problem at times. I have seen original complaints/rants call them what you will that many have responded to. The problem is, as I have highlighted, that the OP posts that one time and does not visit the site again yet the topic goes on and on with more and more posts. Does that in itself put people off. Anyone looking might assume that all we are is a talking shop! Should we perhaps apply some rules? We get the post, we answer - if the OP does not come back then we simply drop the whole thing. Lock it if you will. Anyone with a genuine complaint would have been back yet we can still be discussing it after a month.
I do know that some of our members have given up posting there because it seems to be a waste of time.

At present a new user can stumble on to this site (probably via Google) , set up a user ID and post a question - all in one visit. Then they close the window and never find their way back because they didn't bookmark it or make a note of the ID and password. Meanwhile various members are taking time to write answers that won't be read.
Would it be too off-putting to people with genuine problems to have to wait say 6 hours after setting up an ID before they can post the question? It would at least prove they can find their way back.
And there is the other problem which is not confined to new users about checking whether the question has already been answered before you ask it. See easyjet thread, 9th August, question asked about Manchester Terminal 3 facilities so I posted a link to the terminal map showing the layout . Yesterday -just 10 days later - and there's another question in the same thread about whether there are shops and a smoking area in T3!
And I see Wizard has just experienced similar whilst I've been typing the above....
But then how many of our active members have posted in this topic? Could one problem be that some are so insular that they cannot take time out to really browse the forum and see if they could help? Most of the queries raised by members do not have to be answered only by someone who has just returned from or been there and done that.

All new members get an email to confirm their access to the site. The only ones who may not are those on AOL. However they are approved manually.
So why don't these people come back? Some of them actually ask for advice but a check of their visiting records says they have not even been back to check if there has been an answer.
Personally I consider the question very important. If people keep posting a question (in any section) but don't come back then no matter what we post in here we do not move any further forward. As far as being welcoming, in the past I have made a point of posting a word of thanks for the update. What more can we do?

Wizard the holidays truths facebook page has 2 members only if its the right one I've found.
Remember you can also check for existing topics / questions / advice etc by using the search facility at the top of the page, this helps cut down on all the duplicate questions
if you had read the hand lounge thread [where this question has been asked before] the answer is either .....but dont forget to take an addaptor

You think that is attitude.?
Different styles of writing can get you into a lot of trouble ( I should know) but the written word can be interpreted differently to what it would sound like if it came out of the poster's mouth with tone, facial expressions and body language.
You can try and word it so that it fits all shapes and sizes, but sometimes that's not possible especially when you're asking the poster to change their natural style, and some people will put words into your mouth and even presume what you're thinking, and interpret the post as being "with attitude".
Sanji climbs out of the sugary wonderland.
The ‘obstacles' mentioned such as posts being merged, waiting for a confirmation email and members only looking at a particular part of the site have always been in place, and yet it never stopped posters in the past keeping this site busy.
They are savvy enough to know where to post, so I'm not convinced that they can't find their way back"¦.
It's disheartening (to say the least) spending time answering a post, and then the poster doesn't come back or has been back on the site since posting the question, and doesn't have the decency to say "thanks" or acknowledge the fact that another person took time out of their life answering a question, which the OP thought was important enough to post in the first place.
I make no apology for saying that in my book, it is down right bad manners.
Like I say, I wasn't going to say anymore in this thread, but I sat and read through it all last night and I think it was Tweetie who mentioned about TA being mentioned in here, but HT not being mentioned in TA.
Well I tried it ages ago before we got the new media gallery, with a link back to one of my videos in the old video library, when they were talking about a village in the Costa Blanca and I'd just made a video of the village, and it was like I'd just posted the kiss of death with a highly contagious disease attached"¦.boom silence.!
I can only assume that they were off that I chose to host it in here and not over there.
TA is a completely different set-up.
I've been a member over there since 2009, I used to look in there on odd occasions, but I decided to look in a bit more often lately, and I'm not going to say too much in detail, but I have seen the self-promoting, the ‘gang mentality' and the snide unfriendly remarks aimed at other posters, which will float over ‘ordinary' poster's heads, and it's obviously floating over the mod's head too.
I've seen the deliberate attempt by a few posters to diss another resort down, whilst continuously promoting another resort or venue when they have a vested interest in doing so"¦.I really cannot be doing with sarcastic comments, I'm no good at it myself and I don't take kindly to it, but the "in fighting" by a few regulars between the various forums is unbelievable if you sit back and just watch how they post.
I also do not like their system of having posts removed by being able to click on the post and report it for several reasons"¦.well if you don't like something, then it's quite easy to get your friends in the "gang" to all click and within minutes "puff " the post is gone, and it seems that's what happens when people play childish games, so I ask the question " Are you getting an honest opinion or just a one-sided opinion."?
I don't like the fact that a few can influence many by being allowed to use TA as a platform to influence other people for their own agenda.
I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree at times, but even I can see what's going off in TA, and I know it would be spotted very early by the mods in here and stopped in its tracks.
Who are going to be the biggest losers if you have no choice except TA.?
As the sayings go"¦.only the blind can see and it's only a fool who believes everything they read.

I was the original poster and I think this post should now be locked mods. It's going on and on zzzzz.
Thanks

Why should it be locked people continue to have opinions and ideas
Mods - How do I stop a certain member sending private messages all the time it is intimidating especially when they are twice my age) you know who you are! go on your own forum.
Edited for sp
So has it reached the end of its life? In my opinion NO! The beauty of HT is that so many people have a point of view - or something to say - and this topic proves it. An interesting article in The Sunday Times travel section today that highlights how untrustworthy are some of the reviews posted on TA. That cannot be said about HT.
Something more important we should all consider is how we can spread the word about that. It is no good you and I knowing that we can trust HT we need to tell others. By doing just that more people will use the site and so increase the post count. Yes we will continue to get the "one post wonders" that is the nature of web forums - not a great deal we can do about that but we should not let that put us off.
One suggestion for the Mods/Admin - why not a mass email to all registered members inviting those who have not been here for awhile to come back and join us?
Remember the old BT ad? Its good to talk so long may we all do so.

Yes people do continue to have opinions but this seems to be getting too heated now. This is meant to be a friendly forum but it seems to be going too far.
If you're meaning me and I presume you are because I've made a point about what goes off in TA , well, I'm sorry if my style of writing and stating the truth is upsetting you, but I'm absolutely amazed that you start this topic, then admit that you can't be bothered to read the long posts and then request that the thread is locked.
There is absolutely nothing unfriendly being posted, we are trying to help HT (well those of us who care) and I take great offence at your attitude if you think that comparing HT with TA is getting heated.
I don't know what is going off with the situation and PM's you're getting, and I think that should be between you and the Admin/Mods in a private message to get sorted .....don't try and stifle debate and my right to an opinion.
Sanji
I don't mind anyones opinion and FWH has some great posts on this thread along with quite a few other people.
It's great that people of all ages here have great opinions and I respect that but when some people post they are given sarcastic answers or told you should have look there etc it can come across as unfriendly.
I have been a member here for many years and think the sight is great but just lately not as many people come on here. I did get a pm myself inviting me to join another holiday site aswell which is where a lot of old regulars may now be?
