Discussions regarding holidays in Cyprus

I don't know why it should be 'unfair' to compare Cyprus with Turkey or Spain Wiz...as they are also popular tourist destinations.....and also in the Med...if we were comparing USA though I'd have to agree with you.....there is little mileage in comparing a holiday there.

I don't quite know why you (expats particularly !) are getting so fluffed up about Cyprus being expensive for TOURISTS.....expensive doesn't imply it is a bad place, just beware ..that's all.

Switzerland ...is expensive ...that isn't stopping me going there in five weeks time ........that doesn't mean I don't like it ..how silly !

I've been very surprised by some (but by no means all :love ) of the ferocity of the "oh but Cyprus is cheap" lobby......its a shame because it does put people off posting and it is very unecessary on a friendly board :ghug

I just wanted to say I don't mind if you don't agree, I have noted what you have all said and there have been some very worthy comments on BOTH sides , may I apologise if I've upset anyone .......and I love you all :love2

We got married in Cyprus in October 2004, my first time in Cyprus (not getting married lol). We are going back in October as a family now and can't wait.

When we booked our wedding for the Grecian Park, I had been told from many people, Cyprus is very expensive so I prepared myself for the worst.

Our wedding reception was for 39 guests, with an open bar from 1pm until 6pm. I was dreading the bill but when we checked out there is nowhere in the UK could match the price we paid. We haven't gone into debt to pay for our beautiful day.

Cyprus is well worth every penny spent.

The prices for getting to Cyprus are pricey compared to other places .... and this may be adding more flames to the fire but IMO ... and understand ITS MY OPINION, lowering prices to get to Cyprus would just be an invite for the 'unruly' - the best way I can describe it.

Exactly.
I had this argument last year when I booked to come here as I was sick of having to share my holidays with gangs of hens and stags looking for better and cheaper stag do's than say Blackpool. You start lowering the price and the floodgates will open.I havn't been to Cyprus as yet so can't compare prices in resort but when I was pricing up compared to Spain it was slightly more expensive but you can't expect anything else really when you compare the distannce from the Uk compared to Spain.
You lot are starting to put the frighteners on for me  I'm beginning to think I may have to get a bank loan for my spending money

So, we "ruly", civilised people on a limited income are not allowed a bit more pocket money because lower flight prices might upset the balance of the type of visitors going?

Nice thought, not.
No offence meant.

I avoid the likes of Ayia Napa, Protaras, Paphos and Limassol for just that reason. There's plenty of Cyprus to go round, no matter what type of tourist you are.

Doe and the great misunderstood, back to the very first topic is this thread, I could not live in any other EU country on my pension, it is as simple and honest as I can say...you just will have to go with what you believe..even if it id totally unfounded and untrue.

And as I am about to relax by our pool I will leave this misguided topic for the last time and get back to my expensive life style here in the sun...

ther is nobody who can deny that cyprus is dearer now than it was before joining the eu,and as i see it that was the jist of the discussion at the start of this topic,it is alright for all the expats of which i was nearly one about four years ago,and still may be yet,but they have all the time in the world to go about bargain hunting ,when holiday makers have only 1/2 weeks ,and want to have there holiday . there is nobody will convince me that cyprus is cheaper than turkey ,but that will not stop me going to cyprus now and again as i love the place and have many good memories there.

Turkey definitely cheaper than Cyprus, but then is deserves to be and it is not in the EU....but CY is still cheaper than most!! now I am off...for good. :sun
And the point of forums such as HT is to surly help travelers here, you only have to ask where the best places to eat and buy food is, but if this is not your intentions to do this then you will just have to pay the ferryman!! as anywhere else in the world.

I have just seen this thread so I will give my opinion.I went to Cyprus 3 times in 10 months from October 2002-September 2003. We stayed at a small hotel in Nissi avenue HB but ate out many evenings. The next visit was an AI inclusive in Coral Bay which I wasnt keen on but we hired a car for the duration and headed off to the mountains and up the west coast to the Turkish border. We then went to the Crown resorts in Coral bay for a wedding. We were charged £10 for 4 minutes through the banana plantation to Peyia were the wedding was held.4 minutes in a taxi for £10?.We also hired a car as my husband wanted to find his old army camp he had spent 2 years in many years ago.Our relatives hired a bungalow and a house owned by a friend in Coral bay.I much prefered the east side and enjoyed all 3 hoildays but after discovering the delights of Turkey after an absence of 12 years I cant see me going anywhere else now.The 4 and 5 star hotels I have stayed in are as good as those in Cyprus and in some cases better.

Ok folks I think it's time to call a day on this topic.

We are continuing to go round in circles. Some of us find it expensive, some of us not.

As I have said in previous posts we will have to agree to differ.
