hi where to start.. well the windmill holda an official CTO rating Grad A aparthotel (aprox 3-31/2 star) is on the main road in Permera about 4 miles from Protaras the local beach (pernera bay is about 600 yds away)

you will find the members reviews on the following link
http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/reviews/cyprus/pernera/windmills-hotel-and-apartments/

if you like greek food the Stuffed olive gets my vote about 100 yds north of the windmill

hope this helps

We stayed in these apartments last year (my review is included in the link above)

However I did have cause to write to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation with regards to being charged for air conditioning. The apartments are classed as A and I had read the notice on the back of the apartment door saying that A class apartments should offer free air conditioning to comply with their category rating. The Windmill apartments were charging everyone for this service. Here is a copy of my email and the CTO's reply:-

I am an administrator on both websites listed below in my signature.
I recently visited Cyprus and stayed in the Windmill Apartments
Pernera Protaras Cyprus.

On checking into the apartments we were asked if we required air
conditioning at £3cyp per unit and the apartment consisted of 2 units
ie £6cyp per day. We were staying for 14 nights so declined.

However we later discovered the following pinned to the back of the
apartment door:-

Issued by the Cyprus Tourism Org. which stated:-

Notes:-

1) The above rates are ALL INCLUSIVE ie they include the charge for
the hotel services, 10% service and taxes

2) The provision of air-conditioning in Tourist Establishments
classified in the Deluxe and 'A' Class is compulsory from May until
the end of Octover on a 24 hour basis without any extra charge.

As these apartments are 'A' class why is it that we and others were
being charged for the air conditioning? Both myself and many of our
members are anxious to know where we stand in such circumstances.

Dear Mrs *****

I refer to your e-mail dated 25/10/2004 regarding the above named subject
and would like to inform you that according to the terms of the existing
legislation the provision of air conditioning is compulsory in Hotel Apts
classified either as Deluxe or A class.

It has been pointed out both to the operator of Windmill Apts and to the
tour operator who was involved in your reservation that the practice for
asking extra charge for air conditioning contravenes the terms of the
relevant legislation.

I would like to assure you that the situation will be closely monitored by
our inspectors and we will not hesitate to proceed to appropriate action
should that be deemed necessary in future.

Yours faithfully

(K.Kyriakou)
for Director General

If you think you will need to use the air conditioning you may like to print off my email and the CTO's reply incase you are charged for the service.

Haven't stayed here but know the area well. Not a great deal in Pernera but there are some very good places to eat.The Windmill is roughly in the middle of the main street of pubs and restaurants so not far to stagger home.Across the road is Knights Pub,a very busy and popular English bar. There is also an Irish pub and one further up called Nautilus as mentioned earlier.
At the very top of the hill across the road are a few good restaurants,The Stuffed Olive,Spartacus(spelling?) and my favourite Cordon Blue. Also if you turn left from the hotel down the hill there are another 2 good ones called Steak and Ale and another of my favourites called Noufaro. Both do very good set menus.
thependlewitch says that Protaras is 4 miles away but it's nowhere near as far as that, you'll be able to stroll there in 30 minutes.Just before you reach the beginning of the main strip,on the top road, theres an excellent restaurant called Anatolia. They also do very good set menus.
As for the beach,if you turn sharp right from your hotel and walk down passed Anais Bay hotel you'll find a much nicer little sandy cove at the foot of The Golden Coast hotel.

on the flight over. because i`ve got the memory retention of a gold fish!

hi again first of all Permera to palm bay Protaras is 4KM (not use to metric) by road

very little fresh fish is landed on this side of the island except for Calimari
(squid) but you will find some fish on the menue
if you get away from the resort areas the prices are a fair bit cheaper

i will be returning to Permera in october, as the main season has not yet started on that side of the island you should have a quiet break enjoy and let us all know how you got on

Pernera is like my second home as i go there most years and know a lot of people.

We walk to protaras in 20 mins via the main road, there is a quicker route near to the small water park.

The beaches here are not as crowded as protaras and it is more quieter, that said, the Windmill apts everyone knows because they are extremely noisy and compete with knights pub every night. If you don't mind Tom jones every night, you will be ok. Out side on your door step is a bus stop which takes you into protaras/Ayia napa, waterworld water park etc. It costs Cy£0.50c which is extremely good value if you don't mind being squeezed between Lilos :D

Noufero is a lovely restaurant and we ate there often, but we also found the 'fresh house' to be fantastic value, almost opposite the olive restaurant.

We stayed in the Windmills 2 years ago and if you are a party animal then its ok , if you like a bit of peace at night then its very very noisy, There are to many karaooke bars crammed into such a short area all competing against each other for trade, the noise goes on into the small hours of the morning, maybe it will be quiter in May We were there last week September 1st week in October, The apartments were basic but spacious and clean , We had a room at the back thinkong we would escape the noise no chance, you are surrounded by it. We had to keep all the windows shut to try and block out the noise as Glynis said we had to pay for A/c if the windows were open we would not have bothered, except for the huge spider that tried to crawl throught the window it was the size of your hand.

We are in our 50's like a nice time and a drink but the Windmills were to noisy for us,
Pernera is a nice resort small beaches and quieter except for this area on a night time.

The A/c i mentioned to the owners of the LIVAS apts opposite Noufero restautant, they said it had to be paid because the prices are lower than the brochure price.

If you do want to catch a bus for Napa or protaras, it may be advisable tro walk further up the hill to another bus stop as the windmills gets packed, and you may have to stand. We catch ours at the top of the road near the Golden Coast hotel, we are the first on normaly.

Hiya ..weve stayed at the toxotis which is near Windmills and it looks a good hotel.ive not heard any-one complain about it.let us know what its like when you get back as the windmills is my 2nd choice if i cant get in at the toxotis in october..

The last review looks OK. I would try not to worry too much, the apartments are in a good location. One of the main complaints seems to be noise from the bar, so you could try emailing or phoning before you go and asking for a quiet room. Think positive, you will not be far from the beach, or restaurants and bars , and the bus stop is right outside Windmills. I would not recommend their restaurant though! Hope you have a good time.

many thanks for all the advice. i have e-mailed the apts asking for a quiet room so will wait and see what we get.
will let everyone know what they are like when we get back.
hope its cooling down a bit over there now!

The music in the bar does go on until very late but the hotel is very big so if you had an apartnment at the back of the complex you may not hear it.

Stayed there in 2001after staying 2 previous years at the Elamaris(virtually next door)..apts were very nice , staff were great and from what i can remember we had a great time (pool was freezing ,but it was oct/nov)..we are going back to the Elamaris in Oct(14th) but i would stay at the Windmills again ....don't worry the place is fine.We had an apt at the back of the complex and it was VERY quiet
Protaras is a 30-35 min stroll but there was plenty to do in Pernera anyawy
