Hello,
on our other visits to the Algarve we have always stayed in Albufeira and some times there is a wind get up that seems to last for a few days and even as long as a week, this makes it go a bit chilly at night, does this happen in Lagos and with it being further west is it cooler at night?
Thanks,
Dave.
Since those bits stick out a little more into the Atlantic I would think that it will normally be a degree or three cooler than say Faro and quite probably a bit wetter as well.
According to the Portuguese Met Office at 0700 today it was as follows:
Aljezur 15.3C no wind
Sagres 19.6C, wind 15.5kmh
Portimao 21.6C wind 1.1kmh
Faro 22.8C wind 4.3kmh
All of which bears out my theory for today at least! However Sagres was warmer than Faro last week.
The wind in Lagos can be a blessing as it keeps you cool. It's always stayed windy of an evening when we've been in June but it's been a warm breeze rather than cold.
Does anyone know a reliable weather forecast for Albufeira over the next few weeks? I have looked it up on the Internet but many reports seem dated or are different to others.
There's no weathe station at Albufeira as Faro airport is the nearest. So have a look at the 10 day forecast
Hello and thanks for the replys, looks like I shall have to take my Kite.
I must point out that we had a super time in Lagos and although the wind did put us of I was told it is not always as bad as this, so I will not be going here again but when we go to the Algarve again it will have to be back to Albufeira.
Dave.
We returned from a lovely holiday in Lagos on the 4th July. We were not bothered by wind at all, just a nice breeze on the beach, not windy at all, evenings no cardigan or jacket
We've just returned from Lagos - we were there from 5th July to the 12th and the first couple of days it was quite windy ! but to be honest it was a welcome breeze as it kept the temperature down. It made the evenings cool though, and my mum even had to go in search of a cardiagan/jacket, but sods law, the day she found one the weather changed and the wind disappeared! We didn't experience anymore wind from then on. Apparently it's quite normal for the weather to be like that especially during August and we were told that the best time to visit Lagos is during September when the temperature has lowered slightly and the wind has gone..
We were in Salema (15mins from Lagos) from 6th to 20th July and for the first few days the wind of an evening was quite chilly - cardi was definitely needed, some people were walking around in their fleeces
I also have to say that I never had a fleece or jumper and went out each night in just a teeshirt, but I did find it to cold to eat outdoors a thing I look forward to on holiday, so as much as I enjoyed Lagos if the wind is part of the make up of this area then as I put before I will not be going again.
This is just a personal veiw,
Dave
Have just got back from our first holiday in Lagos and yes,it was very windy, usually the wind picked up around 1pm so suffered a bit of sand-blasting but would have thought that without any wind the heat would have been unbearable, it also got very cold at night 9.30/10.00ish (wind chill!) so we tended to make sure we had eaten before then, would definitely take something with long sleeves next time (probably a duffle coat! only joking.) the thing is, we are already looking to book again next year so it certainly hasn't put us off.
It has been abnormally windy at night this year, all part of global warming I guess. Could all be totally different next year.
The further west we went it blew up a bit, but not enough to stop us going on the beach at Salema a couple of times, many others were there on it as well. We walked around Cap St Vincent for a couple of hours and it was fine there, but this was getting towards August. Wondering about going back next year, need to see the Easyjet flight prices.
Perhaps it has been more windy this year than last. Hope it didn't spoil the OP's holiday.
I'm here at the moment and there is just a gentle breeze
just read this thread.............. off to lagos on 28th July for 12 nights, was 2008 just bad or shall i take my coat!!!
Unlikely to need a coat in July, but always a good idea to pack something light with sleeves for those late night strolls back from the restaurant or bar ( or both! )
Its quite a relief actually because i was concerned it would be blistering hot for my children.
It is funny to see this one come back after a long time, I am going to Albufeira soon but but will be getting the train to Lagos for a day and I am hopeing for a windless day, and have a nice meal in one of the many nice restaurants and a beer in Louis's bar.
