Wow!
Thanks everybody for taking the time to reply to my post, the replies just go to show that everybody is different and has different opinions about the same things.
I've read all the replies and it's been interesting.
To be honest, I didn't expect a unanimous 'yes or no' answer.
Where do I start?
ellie_meg, thanks for your links to Akyaka - it does look lovely but I think the transfer from the airport would be too long for us.
JMK
we're most certainly NOT looking for places that cater for the Brits - anywhere that advertises 'Bangers & Mash' or 'Sunday Roast' is given a VERY wide berth!
Thanks to all who suggested alternative places and to everybody who commented on the cost of food & drink - I'm still confused whether it's cheaper than Greece or Spain.
But, it's too late 'cos we've booked now!
We fancied Turgitreis as we know we can get on the dolmus and visit other resorts on the Bodrum Peninsula for days out.
To be honest, what put us off Turkey for the last few years is that most of the flights seem to leave Turkey in the early hours of the morning.
We HATE that.
To us, it spoils the last day of your holiday even if you can keep the room on.
We like to up, have breakfast then be off to the airport.
Anyway, we found day flights from Stansted leaving Bodrum at 15:00 so we've booked the Irme Otel in Turgutries, B&B for 2 weeks in June.
Any comments (positive or negative) would be appreciated. We've read all the reviews we can find.
We're used to 2* hotels in Goa and s/c rooms in Greece, we 're OK with basic as long as it's clean (and kept clean).
We don't expect 5* luxury.
We'll try to find lokantas serving traditional food, I'm sure that we'll have a great time.
Wizard, we've been to Nerja and loved it.
Thanks again, everybody.
What would we do without sites like this?
