linsi,
As Brian says, any available seat to the UK on any airline is being filled with stranded passengers. I was at Dalaman on saturday and stranded XL passengers were being put on our flight as there were 10 seats spare. It's easier to get a train or taxi from an airport in the UK than wait for possably days for a flight to your local airport. Monarch, along with other airlines have been chartered by the CAA to operate rescue flight (designator 'R' on the flight number). They used an Airbus A300B4 that has the capacity of 2x 738's XL used. I'd rather fly to Manchester, as in this example then make my way home from there than spend an unknown number of days in an airport / hotel. I was talking to some of the stranded passengers in Dalaman who were staying at a local hotel and didn't know what was going on or when they were going home. They were just on a long list of passengers waiting for flights. Local hotels are demanding a high premium for rooms as well, cashing in on the situation. You have to feel for the passengers stranded but at least they've had their holiday.

I flew back from Sanford Airport last night, and Monarch have two aircraft flying to the UK, one a Omni Air DC10 and the other was an L1011 tristar but did not recognise who they were. As Dabzo said the were using the MON flight with an R after the number.

I have just returned from holiday yesturday to find that Travel City Direct have gone bust! I am booked to go to Florida in Feb. My flights where really good in price at £489 each. I understand that Thompson are offering to deal with Atol protected bookings?
Would my flight prices be honoured?
Any help appreciated.

i would think that your deposit would be transferred to a flight, but they would have to get totally new availability for you and i would guess a new price.
Can I ask a general question about paying part of your holiday cost by Barclaycard Visa. I understand that as long as you pay £100 on a credit card you are covered by Barclaycard in situations like this. If there are various people on the one booking, is it £100 per person or £100 per booking ?
In the case of a group then in the case of someone dropping out and there are cancellation charges the lead name is the person the TO would hold responsible. If it was a family booking then it would be ridiculous if only the person making the booking was reimbursed.
If a group of people went into an agents and each paid the deposit and one paid by cc then if they were not the lead name it is possible there would be no cover. Holiday bookings and documentation is always in the name of the lead and the claims with ATOL are done in that name.

http://up to £30,000. It is not liability for incurred costs up to £30k.
What it doesn't provide consumers with is protection to recover all associated costs over and above the original purchase. So if you purchased XL tickets for the family with say a value of £500 but you subsequently have to buy new tickets to get home for £600, the credit card provider may refund the original ticket price (or part of), but not the extra costs incurred to return home.
It is a good fall back position but should never be used to replace ATOL cover or the purchase of insurance that covers for repatriation in the event of a tour operator or airline failure.

But my concerns really are now with the holiday makers that have lost their holidays, and the poor staff who like the rest of us all have bills to pay and houses to keep.
Will keep you posted as to what happens to my sister.

Hi all, Just recieved a phone call from co op travel to say that the mimosa park hotel in palma nova was part of the xl group. So we have had to cancel our holiday on saturday, very upset, they did offer different accomodation but we have checked out the hotel reviews on the forum and none are for us. Hope no one else is affected. Hope i have posted in the right place.
Here are the scenarios. Two holidays are booked...one family holiday and the deposit paid on my credit card...that's straight forward but the second one is for a family member and a friend who happens to be the lead name. I have paid their deposit on my credit card but am not travelling myself. I wonder where that leaves me / the booking itself.
We had to change to a different month which cost us extra admin charges for theme park tickets we had pre-booked and the Villa we had booked charged us £50 admin fees not to mention the mini van we had hired... yes you guessed it more money!
I was on the Voyager of the seas on Friday I so wish I was there now...but then again I probably would have thrown myself overboard
Hope you all get on ok.

The holidaymaker did not pay by cc so therefore should claim in the normal way as if they had paid cash which in effect they have.

OK. Thanks for that Frank.
Linsi.
As I understand it......
Claiming against CC would be in your friends name
Claiming against ATOL would be in Lead Passengers name.
John.
Oops thanks John,
For those interested, there was an excellent article in the Sunday Times newspaper , on what when wrong.
Claiming against CC would be in your friends name
Claiming against ATOL would be in Lead Passengers name.
So does that mean that I can claim a refund from my credit card company although I wasn't going to be a passenger. The flights were paid for by my cc but booked for my parents? Thanks
