Hi has anybody been to Egypt during the xmas period and if so can they give me any advice on best places.hotels etc. We are a family with children aged 14 and 11, could possibly be another family with young adults of 17 and 19 also looking to come. We like sports (football, volleyball etc, although some of us would like to try their foods etc some of the younger ones I'm afraid to say and also my husband are more likely to want english cuisine as well.
Yep i know but we are really looking to go for the sunshine although would also like to celebrate xmas. do they do this as well.
Thanks
whereabouts in egypt were you thinking of.
we went to sharm last boxing day and it was fab. swimming in the red sea on new years day was a wonderful experience. medot.xx
sorry forgot to mention. all the hotels decorated the place for xmas and the new year. there were special meals laid on. if you are thinking of sharm i'll post a few xmas photos!!
Hi there medot, I wouldn't mind having a look at those pics, If you don't mind. We usually do Luxor,Cairo, Cruise...going again in 3 weeks. I have been contemplating Sharm for christmas though, and would really love to find out what it is like at this time of year.
They tend to do the Xmas gala meals on Xmas Eve a bit like in Europe. Santa came on a camel on Xmas day and gave the kids pressies.
these were some pictures of our hotels lobby:
a couple of shots from outside the hotel;
and a couple of shots of our new years eve gala meal;
if i could get the time off of work at xmas again i would deffinately go back. it was brilliant.everyone was great and the weather was excellant even the sea was warm. medot.xx
I have never been away for christmas before, and was a bit worried that i may not like it....thinking that everything would look too "normal" That looks fab.
Do most of the hotels do stuff like that?..or could it be just certain ones.
Thanks again for the pics,
Jan
we went on boxing day but were there for new years eve.
included in our holiday was a gala meal on xmas day and one on new years eve.
everywhere had some sort of celebration going on but you were advised to book if you wanted to go somewhere other than your hotel.
i loved it because all the hotels were lit up in the evenings. it was smashing.
and the gala meal. well i have never seen such a feast and there was a show put on as well. it was our first time away at xmas and as i said before i would deffinately do it again. medot.xx
it can get cool at night at xmas as well by the way but is pleasant during the day. strange to see most germans wearing trousers/jumpers and even coats in the day
Thanks for all your replies, the pics look fab, wanting to go even more now. I am looking at excuse the spellings Shalm el shiek or Hurghada( i think). Could you let me know if it is cheap at these resorts and I am i better all inclusive, BB, HB or FB. also is the food good.
i can only comment on sharm as i have not been to hurghada.
we went B&B. there were plenty, and i mean plenty, of places to eat out in sharm. lots and lots of different choices and all very cheap. it was more expensive to eat at a hotel though.
we are going back in november and have again chosen to go on a B&B basis. medot.xx
also we went with another family. our childrens ages were between 12 and 14. the girls loved it. the girls didn't do much but loved the snorkeling and also did a trial dive. medot.xx
Thanks to anyone who can help
Sorry could you also tell me if you do your hols as a package holiday or do you do diy if so which is the best place to get a good deal
we have a package holiday.
in november when we go we have booked through portland direct. that offered the cheapest deal for the hotel we wanted to go to (renaissance golden view). after recent events i rechecked and i could have got the holiday £160 cheaper with the same company!!
not sure which hotel to recommend but i know that the concorde el salam has a sports complex attached to its hotel. there is a post about it in this forum....and this hotel has got some good reviews. regarding food there is a post at the top of this page that is worth looking at. but if you want english food sharm has a macdonads and a hard rock cafe!! medot.xx
We went to the Renaiassance Golden View with Portland Direct on the 23rd December last year. Absolutely Fantastic! It was their first year of opening and they laid on a (free!) seven course gala dinner on Christmas Eve, which was gorgeous!
Santa came riding along the beach on a camel with sweets for the children on Christmas day! We too, sat on the beach with cocktails on Christmas day, thinking about back home where it was cold, grey and boring!
I would definately recomend it (and Portland were very good). Cheaper but still Thompson flights, service and reps etc.
We loved the hotel so much we went back (as Medot knows) this July. Had a lucky escape with the explosions but am looking to go back this year again!! (Although, don't mention that to my partner just yet!!)
Hope you love Sharm as much as us!
I have read about visa's do we need to get one for just a week as we will be staying in the resort as we have been to Cairo before, or to save hazzle is it worth just paying for one.
Also can anyone tell me about any good trips around the area to visit as we like to get out and about as well as sunbathing.
Does anyone know if prics come down closer to the time and whether a DIY would be cheaper than a package.
Thanks
i got a good price stay at sonseta club nice hotel thompsons do it and hays and jarvies
