Lyn , the same things happens to my younger daughter,
not just in the summer but all through the year , all her white tops and vests
the armpits go yellow, like a nicotine colour. I have tried vanish, oxy and nothing removes it .

Try drenching the area with white vinegar before you put them into the wash, it will smell really strong but you can't smell it at all when they're washed. This is really good for killing sweat smells from clothing too. Hope it helps :)

Trying a 1 part bleach/2 parts water method in a spary with a little washing up liquid at the moment thats been suggested. I know its not been on long but doesnt look its working , on my top anyway :cry . maybe its because the stain is now washed and dried in but cant see tht as being the reason with bleach .

will leave it for a couple of hours and if no luck will buy some white vinegar tomorrow :) thank you shell.

mine as well by those unslightly sweaty armpit Yellow staines . Does anyone know what causes this . Is it just sweat or is it a body chemical mixing with the deodorant

We have 2 types of sweat glands ....we have millions all over the body that surface through the skin's pores and these are responsible for cooling the body temperature.
The glands in the armpits, groin and anal area are a different type of sweat gland, instead of surfacing through a pore, they surface through a hair follicle and the type of sweat they produce is different in composition to the other millions of glands on the human body.

The sweat they produce contains proteins and fatty acids, which makes it thicker and a "milky" or yellow colour and although sweat itself has no odour, when this type of sweat comes into contact with bacteria on the skin and hair, it produces odour.
This is why we apply deodorant under the arms and not all over the body.

good old washing up liquid, works better than ANYTHING you can buy in the shops! my son had cooking oil on his jeans and i couldnt get it out at all, by chance i soaked the stain in washing up liquid for about 10 minutes and then washed them.... not a single sight of the stain was left..its gotten in, grease, sweat stains even beetroot out of clothes!

works a treat

hi helen.. just neat washing up liquid, if its diluted it doesnt work.. as long as you leave it to soak for about 10-15 minutes i find it gets rid of anything

Have to agree with the washing up liquid, I always use it if I get grease on clothing and it always works brilliant. It's also very good for grass stains ;)

Well Ive tried just about every remedy and none have worked . White vinegar, washing up liquid , asprin, wash in whitener. ive drenched ,soaked and got nowhere . So ive come to the conclusion that maybe these ideas only work if you catch these staines before you have washed and dried them :(

anyone got any more ideas :)

Not really Lyn, but I've quite enjoyed reading the thread, it's nice to know we are not the only ones this happens to.

I think the neat washing up liquid is a good one as long as the stain hasn't been hanging around too long. It's worked for me on various stains, but normally food related ones. As well as perspiring we also have problems finding our mouths sometimes. :duh

Hi Lyn

found this advice from someone else with same problem

used the 1/1/1 recommendation of baking soda, water and peroxide with just a minor alteration. Since most of the clothes I de-stained were white, I cut the water a bit and increased the amount of peroxide and the stains came right out after a little toothbrush scrubbing!

Napisan was another tip

Might help

Lynn
