I'm new to the forum, but have enjoyed reading many reports/post of people's personl experiences. I am here becasue my partner and want to go on holday late summer 2008 and I have been tasked with organizing!
We are young, active and on a pretty tight budget. A combined price of 600-800 would be ok for a weeks holiday.
What we don't want:
A british resort ( We want to experince other culutres, not more fish and chips)
Lots of kids ( basicaly what I mean is rowdy, misbehaved teenagers )
Huge crowds of tourists
What we must have:
A really nice beach - Snorkling is something we want a lot of
Public transport - Neither of us drive
A good choice of of excursions ( not water parks or zoos..more along the lines of hikes, rafting, horseback riding)
Nice food - which I think might mean no AI resorts but might be wrong about that! Local, fresh and seafoods are what we are hoping for.
I don't want to be stuck in a big resort where all the prices are over inflated and lack of transport means that you have no choice but to stay there.
Any suggestions of what part of Turkey might be deal for us? Wouold love any specific examples of hotels/resorts aswell.
Thanksin advance
deb
akyaka ticks most of the boxes its wonderful place, its quieter than most places, has a fab beach and riverside area, great for walks and hikes. the restaurants are well priced as not too commercialised and they even have cheap restaurant boats selling fresh fish etc. have a look in the gallery ive listed lots of photos of akyaka and look at this link giving you info
http://akyaka.com/index.php
if you need any more information let me know
Looking at the website you linked, it looks beautiful. I will investigate some more, but it looks very promising.
http://www.turkuaz-guide.net info about the area including accomodation and available excursions. It is a beautiful, peaceful area not commercialised As you can no doubt guess it is one of our favourite places in turkey We are going back for our 4th visit this June. Can't wait
another site that will give you info on akyaka (gokova) is Another alternative might be Cirali... if flying to the Antalya airport...seems to fit what you are looking for as a nature lover..If you are looking for a more out of the way or off the beaten path place then Cirali would be the best bet away from the '' package tours or holiday hordes '' A great little village located 80 kms southwest from Antalya, nice clean 4km beach, ruins of Olympos and the flames of "Chimaera".
But Cirali may not be for everyone as it does not have the waterparks, horseback riding, parasailing etc etc but it is close by to the town of Kemer ( a resort ) and Tekirova..about 30 minutes away by bus.. that has many of these types of activities. Locat transportation can be easily arranged. Or you can rent a jeep, car, quad bikes, bikes etc to explore the nature and there are even some organized tours available as well but not to the grand scale that they are in other places. Great place to hike, take boats trips etc...public transportation is available but maybe not as frequent as other local towns or cities...but not impossible to get out and about...a car is not needed staying in Cirali..most everything is acessible by bike or foot.
Not to many people are informed about this little village. You won't find Cirali like any of the places normally mentioned in this forum. No mass tourism or 5 star hotels. Just nice family own hotels and pansiyons. Small shops, quiet bars, restaurants, and no discos.
Some may find Cirali too quiet but that is what makes it special...
Also my photos from the area.

I love the sound of this myself but haven't quite got the courage, the most exiting holiday we do is a gulet trip, when you stay on a boat and sail about.
Paragliding off Mount Babadag is also one not to miss while you are in Turkey (I did do that)

Try looking at Datca. There are very few package deals there so you must be confident to do it yourself. I recommended hotels on another thread recently. There is a diving school and a windsurfing school, you can also take daily gulet trips and snorkel from the boat. It is a quiet resort with a harbour that wakes up at night with some great restaurants. There are plenty of walks to do and mountains to discover. The ancient city of Knidos is nearby and worth a trip.
