Laganas is the only place on Zante that has the nightlife your looking for.
I agree with intervoice, even though I am no longer looking for wicked nightlife, Laganas is the only place on Zakynthos that offers music bars and clubs and a decent beach. Do try to visit some other parts of the island though, it has more to offer than just clubbing and drinking.
We are going to Zakynthos (Tsivili) for the last week of August, and first week of September. What kind of tempetures should we expect (we do like the heat). Is it easy to get to other resorts - are buses regular? We won't be hiring a car, but would like to get to see other parts of the island. Any recommendations of nice restaurants, and bars to visit in Planos/Tsivili area? Finally, what are the prices for food/drinks like?
If going for a fortnight then seriously consider doing the 2 day trip to Athens but use local Travel Agents, they are cheaper than your Tour Operator. We used Dionisos Tours/TEZ, make sure that Costas is going to be your Tour Guide, he is excellent & go with him to the Greek Night. Price was E85 each plus E26 for Greek Night.
Jenn, just to add to my piece of earlier. If it is any use to you, go on justZante.co.uk this website will tell you everything you need to know about Argassi. Hopefully, by the time you go to Zante, the new Air Terminal will be open for Arrivals. The whole building should have been open for business 15th May this year !!!! Good luck.
We flew out to Zante on 29 May and returned on Sunday. I was really starting to panic about the weather before going because having looked on loads of weather websites it looked absolutely terrible. They were forecasting temperatures cooler than we were experiencing here, rain and thunderstorms. We needn't have worried because the weather was glorious particularly during the first one and a half weeks. Hot during the day and cooler during the evening and night (but still in t-shirts). During the last couple of days there was some very occasional dark cloud and one day there it was cloudy all day. It picked up on our last day. I have come back with a fabulous tan and even my 5 year old who was wearing factor 50 has a beautiful healthy glow. Most days it was at least 26 degrees.
We stayed in Tsilivi and thought it was a great resort, with plenty of bars and good restaurants.
I returned from Tsilivi/Planos on Sunday where we stayed for 2 weeks at the Planos Bay Apartments. We had a fantastic holiday and thought that the resort was ideal. Sorry can't answer your query about the weather at the time you are going but we have come back with great tans!
The beer is about 2.50 euros. We went to restaurants every night and for 2 adults and a 5 year old our meal and drinks came to between 25-40 euros. A standard good evening meal was about 6-8 euros. I looked a sites like this prior to going and wrote down some names of restaurants recommended and was not actually impressed with some of them but we thought the following were good: Manos Grill, Fat Olives, The Olive Tree and Koukos were all very good. We also had a good indian meal at the Prince of Asia.
Others were were recommended but not impressed with were: Stamnes and Popeyes.
To get around the island you have to catch a bus into Zakynthos Town (the capital) and all buses leave there to go to different resorts around the island. We had a bus timetable from our rep which seemed to depart Tsilivi on the hour during the morning then more infrequently in the afternoon. We waited for a bus; it had not turned up after about 30 mins so we gave up and caught a taxi instead which cost about 8 euros to Zakynthos Town (but I'm sure we could have bartered the driver down some more) so I think that the Greek transport system may be as laid back as the Greek way of life! We caught a taxi back and paid 7 euros. The journey took about 15 mins. Someone we spoke to hired a quad bike and that seemed a good way to get around.
Anyway you will have a great time so enjoy!
Glad to hear you enjoy Zakynthos
I will make note of the restaurants you mentioned. Prices in Tsivili seem reasonable, which is great
Looking foward to seeing the town of Zakynthos. Did you enjoy your visit there? By any chance did you see the Tsivili Beach Hotel in the Planos area? How long does it take to walk from Planos to Tsivili?
Sorry for all the questions
You've nothing to worry about. Stayed in Alykanas, 15th-29th May, our Apartments were surrounded by fields of Grapevines. Personally, i only saw two rats in the whole fortnight. The first was as i was coming back from the Minimarket & it was so lethargic it had a job to scramble over a pile of reeds. The second was running through the fields. Other than these observations there certainly wasn't any problem with them. Don't let anything put you off going to Zante. It is a fabulous Island with equally fabulous people. Check out the different Resorts of Zante on justZante.co.uk Read my piece on forum: Zante in May.
We have just booked our holiday for this year and we are going to Tsilivi Beach Hotel and Studios, Tsilivi. Any information about this hotel and apartments and the resort would be wonderful:lol:
We stayed in Alikes, never saw any rats, lots and lots of lizards, and too many ants for my liking, but no rats. That was in October.
Hi Ann, as i said in my post above yours, go on justZante.co.uk. This website will tell you everything about the resort you are going to, from Accommodation to Restaurants to Excursions. For Excursions, check your Tour Operators prices then pay a visit to Diosisos Tours or TEZ. Also, check out my two pieces on forum Zante in May.
Ann, sorry, forgot to mention an important issue. Zante Air Terminal has only one baggage collection belt. It took us over an hour to retrieve ours as 4 Flights arrived at the same time. So make sure you've got plenty of water with you. Coming home was worse, as it took 2 hours to get to the Departure Lounge where everyone was crammed in like sardines. We sat down on benches outside the toilets until our Flight was called, it was nice & cool down there.
Zakynthos Town is not that inspiring but something you feel you should do. There is a harbour and many cafes and shops (eg. Top Shop, Bennetton etc.). Ok for a leisurely stroll, not very big. Many shops seem to close in the afternoon.
I did not notice Tsilivi Beach Hotel - sorry. I think I have a map showing some of the hotels; I will have a look and see if I can see it.
The resorts of Planos and Tsilivi almost merge. You can either walk along the main road with all the tavernas and restaurants or along by the sea. It probably took about 10 mins to walk from the far end of Planos to the heart of Tsilivi (and that was with a 5 year old in tow!), but I couldn't actually say where Planos ends and Tsilivi starts.
You will have a great time.
will zante still be mad end of august, 1st 2 weeks in sept, i went a few years ago in august and it was really great and ws thinkking of going larter this time!
I have been going to Zante and many greek islands over the last 12 years and have never seen a rat. We go at all different times of the year. My friend lived in Laganas in Zante for 5 years and she never saw rats either. (Only the male human kind...ha).
Zante is great, go for it.
Crissy
