Zebra Crossings!

After many years holidaying in Majorca I speak from experience when I say ANY zebra crossing should be treat with great caution.

We only EVER cross when a car has stopped for us, which is a very rare occurence - we always acknowledging the driver and a "Gracias" hollered by the kids always raises a smile and probably makes the driver's day!

Otherwise we just wait for the road to clear -always amazes me how many just step out into the road despite cars coming along and expect them to just stop as they usually do here in the UK.

Last year I was amazed in Santa Ponsa , cars actually stopped at the zebras to let you past ! It was a bit unnerving at first but still didn't take any risks . Off to Santa Ponsa tomorrow!

Hi Guys

I must say my Father who has visited Spain many times is one of the "they'll stop" brigade. Much to the horror of the rest of the family!!!!

In my experience zebra crossings in spain and just there to make the road look nice - lol

Calabonagirl where are you flying from tomorrow - we're going to Cala Millor from Doncaster tomorrow night from Doncaster.

As you can see I'm rather excited and not making a deal of sense.

Must to the horror of my work colleagues who are hoping i clear my desk of the mountains of paperwork before I go.

CBG - gosh that seems to have come round really quickly!

Will keep fingers crossed you have a trouble free flight tomorrow and if you are sat in the back half of the plane and have Nick (cabin crew) - you'll be well looked after.

Have a fantastic time both of you!

I can vouch for all those who say to beware of crossings, i still have the scar to show for it! i was knocked over by a motorbike in majorca about 8 years ago so i'd say forget the highway code and its every man for himself there when it comes to crossing roads!

We visited Puerto Pollensa for the first time this year and have to say trying to cross the roads at times was like dicing with death. We were halfway across a crossing the one day when a car seemed to come from nowhere and he obviously wasn't going to stop so we had to in the middle of the crossing and the worse experience was trying to cross a main road to get to a supermarket, it was a busy wide road and there were three crossings linked to one another, I got stuck in the middle of one of them and it was a pretty scarey feeling with cars coming behind and in front of you :?

Not just zebra crossings are ignored, last year i was driving through palma and the spanish drivers behind took great delight in honking thier horns if i stopped at red lights  In inca there was a traffic jam and for half an hour everyone was constantly pressing thier horns it was a bit funny but i would hate to live next to that road.
