The resort was clean. lots of pot holes and broken pavements, very dangerous.
There were plenty of pubs and clubs around, good for young people.
The beach was lovely, but you had to pay 7levs for a lounger then 3levs for the mat that goes on the lounger then another 7levs for a sun umbrella.
I wouldn't visit this resort again, as not many English, so it was very hard to ask for anything and get an answer.

the resort is more commercialised than we expected and as such gets exceedingly busy on a night time. The guys who offer you photos with exotic animals (i;e snakes, crocs & monkeys are just plain cruel and as such i wouldn"t endorse their activities). buBut you can"t fault the 39/40 degrees in August !

We stayed in Sunny Beach last year and we will go back there, but we would not go back to Golden Sands as Sunny Beach offers slightly more in entertainment and shopping.
Liked the Elvis and Tom Jones acts along the bars at the seafront and found the beach to be very clean, but hire of beds, parasoles etc quite dear.
The airport at Varna is going through a refurbishment, so it is a bit basic at present.

There now seems to be more Germans than Brits but still very good holiday and weather is always nice. Prices have gone up by 70% from last time we were here in 2004 (Meals 25 levs, S.ICE 6 lev) so you ar enow paying same sort of prices as at home fore most things and with the euro coming I think it may even be more expensive next summer. You have to be prepared to be hassled to go in for meals drinks but they are jsut doing there job. Hope this helps.

This was our 6th time in GS but sadly it will be our last. As our family resort of Golden Sands has changed so much in the last 6 years & in our opinion not for the better.
Crowds of youths marching down the streets in various pub crawls, with loud sirens blaring.
The only place in GS safe from the pub crawls is up past the Admiral hotel.
Sunbeds on the beach are 7 leva each 7 leva parasol 3 leva for a mat. really expensive.
Meals down near the front are very expensive as the rents for these places are a kings ransom at so the proprietors have lttle option but too pass this extra cost onto the customer.
Not many Brits in the resort mostly German,Scandanavian & Russian tourists.
Less people with flyers this year but still alot (this has never bothered us)

the resort of Golden Sands is lovely with heaps to do and see day or night. the resort offers value for money with many restaurants which believe me you'll use daily and the entertainment is fantastic in the resort. Beware of changing money in the booths or on the street they rip you off, but on the whole Golden Sands is a delight and is perfect for old and young alike the sea is lovley the weather is fantastic, the beach sunbeds are a little pricey and you have to pay for everything or sit right at the back of the beach on your own towels, there are a couple of trains that take you up and down the main beach front and there is absolutely loads to do and see.

Not for a family holiday with children.Lots of german teenagers always drunk.Beach very expensive had to pay for sunbed, mat and parasol, not much space to put a towel down if you did'nt want to pay.

The beach was very clean but the smells were realy bad,the parasailing turned out to be quite dangerous, one landed very hard on the parasols above the sun loungers no-one was hurt but it was pure luck, the food in the main along the front was undercooked,i had raw chicken on two occasions,i was given coke as recompense but i was wary of all the food, toilets are a thriving business that dominate the resort, everyone charges one leva and when [not if!]you get the runs running back to the hotel is not an option, its likely to be the main expense of your trip, which makes it pretty sad, peter
