On an evening at the back ot the Atlas hotel the prostitutes swarmed, as did the people tauting for business to the bars and restaurants, they were a real pain. However the bars were great, lots of entertainment and the drinks were really cheap. The road train around the resort was brilliant, and there was so much to do for the kids. The beach was clean and the sea was lovely.
For a cheap family holiday I would reccomend the resort, I would book self catering and eat out ate the many and varied restaurants.

Lovely to stroll around loads of bars where there are live singers/cabarets. Nice market, mini trampolines for the children. Bulgarians generally make you feel welcome. Golden Sands is very green, there are lots of trees in the resort, I must say they are extremely high, in my hotel I was on the fourth floor and the tops of the trees were at that height, next year if they are not tendered to they will be blocking even more views, alot of the Hotels are affected by the trees.

The resort I stayed in was quite clean and I didn't see much litter.
The beach was clean with soft sand but very busy. The sea is clear and you can snorkel and see fish.
The theme park in Albena was good with fairground rides. There were lots of places to have lunch and a drink if it gets too hot. There are lots of stalls and shops.
Balchik doesn't have a lot of shops but a few stalls around. The Balchik gardens are good as well. It has waterfalls, cafes, and a house with animals like, snakes, spiders, birds, frogs and others to look at.
I probably would like to visit this resort again.

The beaches were far too busy. Although there are beautiful stretches of golden sands, they are very crowded.
The amount of hotel development has meant you have to fight for a piece of beach, and if the children want to build sand castles- forget it. The beach is littered with cigarette ends and by the end of the day the bins are overflowing with rubbish.
There are plenty of restaurants and cheap shopping, but beware of being pestered by the competing retailers.
I think Golden Sands has reached capacity for development, but they are still building, so spaces on the beach and around pools is going to get worse.
Compared to Sunny Beach it is dirty, crowded and unfriendly.

The way to the beach was by chair lift not mentioned in the brochure and not suitable for alot of people.
The main resort via taxi everyday was clean with many cheap shops but such a trek to get to everyday for food.
The beach was clean but the way to it was run down and dirty. We flew home a week early very disappointed.

Even the hotels in Golden Sands were really modern and nice, but prices were too expensive as for Bulgaria.
People were not as friendly as they should be.
Roads quality was really awful.

A great holiday had by all. We were dreading the walk from hotel to beach and vice versa, but it was fine, more of a slant than a hill! Plenty nice places to eat and plenty entertainment. The water park is excellent, not too many stairs (once you are in!!!!!) to the rides, and queues not too big. You also had the option of going in from 4pm - 7pm for half price which is good value.
There is a small carnival down the beach front for kids. There is some dodgems, bungees, and of course .......McDonalds!!! We went horseriding to Albena whilst there which was great. This was done independently and cost 20lev for taxi return, and 60 lev for 3 of us riding for 1 hour.
The only thing that drove me nuts was all the touts trying to get you into their bars/resaurants, and by the end of the week my tolerance was wearing thin!! Although most of them accepted a polite 'no', there were the ones who wouldnt give up.
Overall we had a great time. Golden Sands was more commercialised than we expected, but we would not hesitate to go back again.

Golden Sands is an ideal desination if you want a lively holiday without it being full of drunken louts. Eating out is cheap and varied and there is live entertainment in almost every bar. The Bulgarians are amongst the friendliest I've met and very family-orientated.
There's lots of places to buy souvenirs and I would recommend shopping around if you're booking trips -you can get them cheaper outside the hotels.
The beach is spotless except by the marina where the train stops -we saw quite a lot of debris from boats in the sea there.
Just ignore the Promotions people who give out leaflets and try to sell you their menus. They can get on your nerves!! We will return!!
