The resort is isolated, nearest town 50 miles away.
Cayo Coco is for beach holidays, odd trips a chance to chill out relax read and swim.

Not so much a resort, but a few hotels on a great stretch of beach.

The sea was 20 degrees-warmest sea I've ever been in! You could see the fish just by standing on the beautiful white shoreline. All non motorised watersports available - windsurfing(which my husband does and enjoyed as we weren't expecting the breeze which came every lunchtime),kayaks, pedaloes and hobie cats(which the kids went on every day with their dad). The resort was spotlessly clean even though we saw horses on the grounds twice! I will have to say that the entertainment staff through the day we didn't have much to do with as the kids stayed on the beach for the first 9 days. Mosquitoes are a problem but we went fully prepared and although we were all bitten it was nothing out of the ordinary but do take creams/potions etc. We all also suffered with upset tummies - Imodium worked and it seemed to be a 12 hour duration. This was our first visit to the Carribean but hopefully not our last.

Cayo Coco is very secluded and you do not really get a feeling of the "real" Cuba. It is fine if you want a simple beach/pool holiday, but we started to get "stir crazy" after a week. The excursions are rather expensive.
The entertainment is a bit brash and noisy, but the entertainments Team are keen and enthusiastic.
The beaches cannot be faulted- pritine white sand and azure, cristal clear sea. Perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
We would not visit again, because outside the hotels there is nothing to do.

The beach was stunning! The best and maybe only thing worth visiting this resort for. Our rep describes the cayos as fantasy island. If you want a beach holiday to relax and nothing much else maybe this is for you. If you want to visit Cuba avoid the cayos. There is nothing there except all inclusive hotels, a great beach and cheap rum. We were told that Cuban people are not allowed onto the Cayos unless they are a member of staff...bizarre!
We did go on the trip to Havana which was nice but very expensive. We didnt get to enjoy as much as we had hoped as having uposet stomachs we were both ill. The downside of the trip was the location of the hotel where we stayed in Havana, although very beautiful and luxurious it was in the middle of nowhere. We had hoped to explore a little more but due to the location it was not possible. All in all we did enjoy this trip.
The beaches are really beautiful on the Cayos, white sand clear and brilliant weather. There were some great watersports to try. We walked the length of the beach every morning, which was really nice.

Cayo Coco isnt really a resort, its an island with several hotels on it. All entertainment is hotel based. We went on several trips while in cayo coco. I will give the details in this section.
We went on the one day Havana trip, flew to havana on a propella plane which i did not like one little bit although the flight was actually fine, it was just the thought! coach tour around havana with many stops and walk abouts, went to the havana club rum museum which was great, visited a cigar shop, and had chance to do some general shopping. Saw Hemmingways bar, and all the well known havana landmarks such as revolution square. This trip will cost you 195 pesos per adult and we though was worth every penny.
Next we did the Dolphin deluxe trip which is a two day excursion. Travelling by coach, first to Trinidad which takes three hours, a look around trinidad with some shopping. Into Cienfuegos with more sight seeing and shopping. Onto the overnight hotel which is on the Carribean coast. A word of warning, this hotel is a three star and only just that, the food was very poor, as was the service, we went through an entire meal without managing to get served a drink. On the up side it is still all inclusive and the rooms although small were clean, the beach is also nice.
Next morning after breakfast on to the dolphins. This part was unmissable, worth the whole trip, i will not spoil it for anyone by telling you all the details buts its fantastic. After the dolphins its the return journey with a stop at the Che Guevara memorial museum. This trip will cost you 169 pesos per adult which we thought was actually really cheap as all the meals etc are included.
We also did the Catamaran trip which we didnt enjoy so much, the catamarans are lovely but they take you to a 'reef' to do some snorkelling which is about 15 mins ofshore but they go so slowly it takes an hour to get there, ok if you like to sunbathe on deck with all the canadian youngsters. The 'reef' was actually just a bit of shallow sea approx 2 meters deep with some rocks and seaweed on it. The sea was also rather rough which made snorkelling impossible and swimming was actually rather difficult too. Myself and my boyfriend are both very strong swimmers and snorkell alot and have also done some SCUBA diving, we found this very disappointing. Next you go onto a beach that is really rather lovely, very white sand and very shallow blue sea. Lunch is on board the catamaran and is not bad at all. On the return to base you stop at another 'reef' which was just as dissappointing as the first. This trip costs 75 pesos per adult and we thought it was nothing more than glorified sunbathing.
Lastly we did the Jungle Tour - James ond style speed boat trip! Fantastic fun driving your own speed boat through the mangroves (salt water) really good fun, stop off at a jetty with some great snorkelling, loads of fish so dont forget to take some bread for them. Return back on your speed boat, whole trip takes about three hours from leaving to returning to hotel, costs 41 pesos per adult and we would have done it twice but we were running out of days!
Thats not all the trips that are available from cayo coco but it was enough for us, allowing us to see some of Cuba aswell as relax in our resort. Do not be put off of cayo coco just because there is nothing to do outside of the hotels, the trips are cheap and great fun then the hotels are always a lovely well set base to relax and enjoy the beach and the wildlife.
We highly recommed Cayo Coco and will be returning !ourselves soon!

The resort was kept clean, however you had to watch out for the odd snake, we bumped into two.
The entertainment wasnt up to much and lasted about 1 hour each evening however the dancers were good.
The beach is quite narrow and seems to be infested with something as both of us had bites after going there, the sea was nice and warm but difficult to get into in places due to the uneven rocks.
There is no way I would go to this resort again.
