Beaches

We stayed at Tryp Cayo Coco. The beach was beautiful with plenty of sunbeds and shade, the sea warm and shallow. There were lots of activities such as canoes, catamarans, windsurfing, volleyball etc. there was lots of things organised by the entertainment team. There was a glass bottom boat from the beach which was good and also horse riding. There was also tennis, football etc, but I never saw anyone doing these because it was just too hot. This resort is purely for beach lovers as out side of the hotel though there was nothing at all.

The beach is excellent, especially for children. It was cleaned every morning. My five year old loved it. The sea most days was calm enough for him to snorkel and he didn't have to go far to see fish. The whole resort was kept very clean and they do well to keep the gardens nice considering they've had no rain for a year.

Cayo Coco isn't really a resort in itself - 7 or 8 hotels but not much else. It's off the mainland of Cuba, linked by a 17 km causeway. It's in the most gorgeous location though, reminded me a bit of the Maldives. Perfect for a relaxing, romantic holiday!

Cayo Coco has only a handful of hotels of which we felt the Melia was one of the best there. It sells itself as a beach and watersport type of holiday. I would not go back in January as most of the watersport activities were cancelled or restricted. Snorkelling was almost non existent which was a great disappointment. I don't think the weather was uniquely windy, I think maybe it is quite common at this time of year. We did visit some other hotels along the strip the Tryp, El Senador and Sol and the Melia has a nicer ambience especially for couple on there own.The beach is better by the the other hotels it is more sheltered.

The resort itself has only 3 hotels.
Outside of these there are a few small places to eat/drink which can be reached by taxi but nothing else.
Night time is soley based around the hotel.
The beach was clean, the only annoying fact is each day 2 tractors would come along about 1pm,drive along and collect the seaweed.
You had to move and wait for them, also this is a public beach, people from other hotels bring there children and also locals arrive at weekends with their children.

THE CAYOS
The cayos lie off the Northern coast of Cuba and are reached directly to the international airport Jardine del Rey or via a 17-mile causeway from the mainland.
The area is for tourists only there is no local town on the islands all the resort workers are brought in daily mostly from the town of Moron on the mainland.
The islands are fairly flat and featureless covered in low growing shrub like trees but there are some of Cuba’s best beaches in this area The hotels are mainly in small groups adjacent to a beach Its ideal for beach lovers who just want to chill out but not the place if its local nightlife and the real Cuba you are wanting to see.

Wonderful resort but not much around in the area if you are looking for something else.

Again there were not enough bins around the hotel and as a result plastic cups were floating in the pool, on the beach and cigarette ends lying about the place as no ashtrays were provided on the beach or round the pool.
