This resort is good for daytime but there is nothing here in the evenings. Most bars close 10pm, due mainly I would think to the number of all inclusive hotels around.
The beach is good although there was aproblem with jellyfish when we were there, several people got stung. Most hotels have sunbeds and a beach bar on the beach but did not see any independant beach chairs avaliable.

Varadero is a purpose built resort, so the hotels are fairly spread out. It costs about GBP 7.00 one way in a taxi to the resort centre. There is enough going on in the hotel though to keep you amused. There is also not a lot to buy there, the usual tourist junk.

Valadero is a purpose built resort and the road is full of hotels built on a peninsular looking out to sea. A modern golf couse is on hand and I would recommend the open top bus ride for the full length to the end of the peninsular and then into the town. Everything is clean and well maintained although the grass area between the road and the hotels could do with landscapping. Shopping is a mainly at the American Mall with items at a fixed prices, although in the small town some areas don't have the fixed prices. The beach in front of our hotel and the others for some considerable distance was that wonderfull soft white sand, but at either end became a little stony.
I would visit this resort again but next time I go to Cuba I would like to visit the southern coast.

Everywhere was clean, the beach is raked clean daily and even after Hurricaine Ike had gone the debris and rubbish was all gone.

The beach is beautiful white powdery sand and the sea is crystal clear water.

The resort it self had something for everyone and was clean by there standards, considering ike, we never saw any major flooding, damage etc and we went 2 days after it had passed through. Havana has a 7km sea wall the water comes straight over and flooded the town but this had gone, they get stuck in, how long did it take for twekesbury to get sorted.

We are not beach people we took a look there was another bar surprise surprise, plenty of beds and the water was very warm, no reefs here but calm and lots of water sports free, the guys would take you in a catamaran for an hour and it was good.

Resort entertainment well we did go to the tropicana and it was really good and there also seems to be a lot going on but we were happy to stay where we were.

Once agian i would go back here for sure and can not think of anything bad to say about the place.

We only ventured into the town of Varadero once so hard to comment on resort. We visited Calle 62, a bar frequented by locals, which was well worth a visit just to listen to the Cuban band and watch the locals dancing in the street.

The beach in Varedero is amazing. Clean white sand. Crystal clear water.
There is a flea market to visit but that is it in the way of shopping so not a place for anyone who likes to shop when on holiday.
we did'nt leave the hotel so cannot comment on any entertainment going on outside apart form organised trips.
Would love to visit again. But the world is a big place and there are lots of other places I want to see.

As a resort Varadero grew on me as on first going into the town it seemed it had very little to offer.
But as I started to wander the street and see that this was as much a living working small Cuban town and not just a tourist resort i started to enjoy it much much more.
With the resort being spread down a strip of land 20kms long it really is hard to find a true center as everything is sread out along the strip.
This is where the all day bus ticket comes in handy for 5 peso each you can hope on and off all day long.
The resort has all the usual water sports on offer to the visitor along with a great town park which has a kids fairground cafes and a swimming pool.
the Nightlife is good if you like to dance to Cuban music as there are so very very good clubs in the downtown area.
The beach is stunning to look at and the one downtown is stunning to be on although it can get busy at times.
This leads me to my one big gripe about Cuba its beaches in varadero.
They are simply stunning and yet they are not cleaned enough and rubbish mounts up with what can only be lazy tourists not putting stuff in the bins.
It would only take a tractor to rake these beaches in the morning and I think you would have one of the worlds best beaches under your feet. and as for the water its like getting in a hot run bath.
Varadero would I go back yes I would go tomorrow But I would make sure I spent a bit more time in Havana its a must see place and one day is just not enough.
