We didn't really use the local facilities in Varadero, but there were lots of hotels along the strip and some had theme nights you could pay to go to. There were also shops and a market, but again, we didn't use them as we were there to relax so just spent most of our time around our hotel unless we were on a daytrip.
The beach in Varadero is absolutely stunning - clear blue water, white sand that goes on for miles and miles.
We'd definately go back there again.

We loved our visit to Cuba and our stay at the Bella Costa. The beach was fantastic, the Mojitos and cervesa's were cold and plentiful.
Food was good, better in the a al carte restaurants than the buffets. (I am however not a fan of the buffet at the best of times, so if you are one to indulge in the buffet line, you would likely be pleased with the options available)
Rooms and facilities were very clean, pools were very cold though and not used often by the guests.
Varadero is a 45 minute walk on the beach or a quick/cheap cab ride away. Worth the trip for some local cuisine. Havana is also a great day out...try the jet ski adventure too!

The beach was great, long sandy, stretching as far as the eye could see.
On our first visit to the beach the first thing I saw were dolphins in the surf, only saw them once more but it was a great site. The sea was great for swimming and playing, all sand and no sharp rocks.
The food was Ok, a little bland but there was a pasta/pizza place aswell that you could rely on if the food was boring at dinner, all was inclusive.
Entertainment was fantastic, the dancers at the hotel were as good as the ones we saw at the Tropicana.
The actual hotel is fine, a few pools, a few bars, it is quite big. Nice beach bar with a snack bar there. Good shopping nearby with shops and a large open air market.
The Havana and plantation trip was great.

Entertainment in Cuba is really limited to your hotel so those wanting bars and clubs should avoid.
The trip to Havana is well worth it but I would recommend that you try to stay overnight as there is too much to see in one day.
Avoid the swim with dolphins. The dolphins are not free to swim away and are kept purely for the entertainment of tourists!!
There is great diving in Cuba, particularly just outside of Varadero. Beware the rough seas though, it looks calm but gets pretty choppy when you get further out.

We liked the resort very much, but there isn't a lot of clubs. The bars are good, but don't have the ice, and be wary of some of the toilets. Lots of quaint markets, and a few restaurants. We went to Al Capones house for a meal, which was good. The beach and sea were lovely, and very clean.
