The resort of Varadero is very pleasant and only a short bus ride away from the hotel we stayed in. The open top bus is great value and the service is quite frequent. There is a nice craft market in the centre bu not a lot else. The only reason I would not return to this area is the length of flight,I'm afraid 9 1/2 hours was just too much for my aching back.

Resort fairly quiet. Clean and tidy. Minimal entertainment and poor choice of restaurants - but then this is a communist country still so is to be expected to some degree. Beach was excellent. Don't go to Cuba for the food and drink.

Varadero had very little to do at night and in the day, we found one bar but it had exacaly the same entertainment on every night.
The beaches were fantastic make sure you go a long walk along them, stunning!!

There is no town near, but the double decker bus gives good value and then there are horse and buggy and coconut taxis.

Varadero town itself is a smallish town which can easily be described as having 1 major avenue with 65 roads running across its path. (Don't think these are big roads because they aren't) It is kept as clean and tidy as I expect most small Caribbean island towns are kept.
The major attractions are the flea markets where you can find all the 'Tastefull' gifts and souvenirs for you to take back with you, all at very reasonible prices. The major thing I did notice was how the locals left you alone to get on with what you want
There are a few bars and restaurants which offer live music at night.
The town itself is a short walk from most of the hotels but if you don't fancy any excercise there are plenty of Taxis and horse carriages.
The hotel complexes are situated on the Varadero beach which is one of the nicest and cleanest beaches I have seen.

Varadero town is lovely and there is a great market selling hand made crafts at very reasonable prices. Remember though before you barter too hard that the Cuban people have very little luxuries. Take with you colouring books and colour pencils to give to the stall holders children, we did and I'll never forget the sheer delight on the little boys face. Not sure what the evenings would be like although there are a few bars but with small children it was easier to stay in the hotel. Cuba has very little crime and at no time, even in Havana did we feel uncomfortable. Go and enjoy but remember that this is a country that has very little import, so if you want something really fancy maybe Cuba is not for you. We loved it and we're going back next year.

As in most of the Carribean and where there are a lot of AI Hotels there is not a huge amount going on. There is the town of varredero a short bus ride away. Here there are some extra restaurants and bars if you want a change A few things to do as well and a little extra shopping. nearby is swimming with Dolphins and we also did a jeep safari which got us out into the countryside and saw a bit more of the real Cuba well worth doing.
What seemed a pain for us at first as going with Virgin flying into Havana. We turned this around and stayed 2 nights before coming home. If you go to Cuba you really should visit Havan an excellent place truly unique in the world and a place that may well change in the future really would say you must go for at least one night.
I liked the Trypp,loved Cuba.

Our hotel was fairly isolated and away from the resort completely but we did go into Varadero several times. Went into Varadero several times by taxi. Shopped at Plaza America (mostly window shopping).
Loved the craft market at Parque Central where we bought loads of bits and pieces for the kids and friends at home. Friends took a tour in a horse and carriage and had an excellent lobster lunch. Kept trying to get to Mambo nightclub which everyone recommended but didn’t make it (too many mojitos at the hotel).
I would recommend the catamaran trip to Cayo Blanco from Marina Gaviota. Half way there stopped and swam with dolphins (fantastic experience in an enclosure in the middle of the sea) carried on to Cayo Blanco for seafood lunch and returned early evening.
Guys on the catamaran had us in stitches, got us all up dancing etc – well they definitely got a good tip. Would love to return to Varadero but to a hotel more central so we could walk out and about and explore the town a bit more.

Varadero resort is just a row of nice looking all inc hotels. The beach is lovely and always clean.
The entertainment on the beach is good there is banana boats paragliding motor boat things which look great fun but again there is nowhere to walk too.
