The position of the hotel is about 30 mins from downtown Varadero. Taxi.open top bus{5pesats} and train depart just outside front of hotel.
The beach is about perfect as it gets and the temp and clarity of the sea is magnificent.

Cuba is supposed to be a luxurious carribean experience, not at all we wont be visiting cuba or the Barcelo Solymar ever again and we would advise against anybody else going, although we couldnt fault the beach, other places have beaches with just the same white sands and clear seas so we will stick to those i think.
i hope this has helped!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a large stretch of road with bus stops along it every 100 yards, each stop has a bar, a restaurant of sorts and a flea market and this is all we found.
I have never visited a resort with such little going on.

Totally amazing, the beach was amazing and clean and well staffed.
There was entertainment on but most of it was either in the pool or near trees so you got eaten alive.
We never saw any rubbish laying around...but beaware of pick pockets.

Varedero promised a lot and delivered very little.
There were nightclubs but they were not accessable to children.
The park was good for very young children, the beach was great, wished I had spent more time there.
There are plenty of craft markets and prices can be haggled over here. Plenty of places to eat out and have cocktails, some excellent value.
Would probably not visit Varedero again.

After leaving Santa Clara, we drove straight to Varadero and our hotel, the Superclubs Breezes, where we were spending our last 4 nights. We hadn't planned to do much while we were in Varadero, but the hotel did offer a vast range of tours from the Cubanacan desk in reception. We only did two small trips while we were there - a bus tour and a jet-ski safari.
For the bus tour, we caught the open-topped tour bus that was supposed to do a circuit of the peninsula and Varadero town every 30 mins. Tickets cost 5 pesos and you could use them as much as you liked that day. There were bus stops about 15 mins walk from our hotel - one for each direction, so we decided to head in the direction of the peninsula first. When we got on the bus, it was crowded and it took us a while to get seats upstairs. When we did, we soon found out that this wasn't the best of ideas as it was incredibly windy up there. We also found out that there is little to see apart from hotels at that end of Varadero. When the bus finally reached town, we got off and went to get a drink from a bar before having a walk along some of the back streets. This was only 2 days after I had twisted my ankle, so we soon decided to find the next bus stop and get back on the bus for the remainder of its circuit. The bus stops that we had seen earlier had been clearly marked, but we walked for miles (literally) without seeing anything like that on our side of the road. We then decided to just get the bus back to the hotel, as the bus stops were visible on the other side of the road. Despite the buses being timetabled to run every 30 mins, we waited 40 mins and then gave up and paid for a taxi back instead. So in general, I wouldn't recommend the bus trip and there is not much to see in Varadero itself either.
The jet-ski safari was much more fun! We were picked up from our hotel at 9:30 and driven straight to the Marina (about 10 mins away). The flyer for the safari showed people only wearing their swimming costumes. We both burn easily, so we decided to wear shorts and t-shirts over our swimming stuff. We did end up getting a bit wet from the spray but the only way we would have got completely soaked would have been from falling into the water. I was a bit worried about being able to drive the jet-skis with a twisted ankle, but they are hand operated so I had no problems. We had nearly two hours on the jet-skis in the end, with a chance to swap the driving over half way, with a short visit to a mini-zoo (actually a small collection of miserable looking animals) near the end. We would highly recommend this trip as it only cost about £25 each and it was great fun.
All in all, we found Varadero to be a bit soulless - it didn't feel much different to being in Spain to be honest. We were pleased that we went there for a bit of relaxation after our hectic tour, but if we had only spent our time in Varadero then I think we would really have missed out on the real essence of Cuba.

Varadero is a different cuban experience than my first visit to Cuba, staying in Guardalavaca. There's plenty of bars to visit (towards downtown Varadero) and flee markets to browse. The 5 peso all day bus ticket is an ideal way to spend a day looking around Varadero, just jump on and off the bus all day to explore the area. For those who enjoy a big of scuba diving, the local dive centre provides a good service and there is daily diving either around varadero, or a 2 hour drive away at the Bay of Pigs depending on the weather conditions. There's not a lot to see for the more expereienced diver, but its ok. Varadero beach is long and perfect for those who like to laze on the beach all day. My only gripe was the lack of fish holding features, its not the best snorkelling location!

Varadero beach is lovely - Varadero itself is as you would imagine a bit grim

The market is very cheap and has a great choice of stalls.
