our stay at the riu bachata was brilliant could not find anything wrong. every day we got up the maids were tapping your door ready to tidy your room. outside there were gardeners pruning the trees and tidying the hedges. on the beach you have golden sand and crystal blue water what more would you want. we had a great entertainment team for those who wanted to join in. david was the team supervisor and kept the team busy allday and night. plenty of sun beds by the pool to chill out and meet people. we met people from all over the uk. through going to the riu bachata we met john rosalind and lisa from scotland and are now our friends they made our holiday and shall meet soon. they are going back in january and july 2007 so thats got to say something about the riu bachata. and we may go back next year....

The cleanliness of the resort was faultess. Even as you lay on your sunbed staff came round to take empty glasses and replaced used ashtrays. There were 2 beaches avaliable to use. The main beach as well as a sports beach. We prefered the sports beach as there was somethink to watch as you caught the rays. Some activities were free such as kayaking, pedlo's. This was the best resort we have ever been to and would definatly visit again. Worth every penny.

Every aspect of this holiday was enjoyable
Facilities were excellent Staff were fantastic and i would visit again without hesitation
I would also like to visit every other Riu Hotel as having looked through their brochure for the carribean they all look amazing

The three Riu hotels make up the resort of Bahia Maimon and other than them there is nothing else nearby. Puerto Plata is the nearest town but only accessible by taxi so completely reliant on the organised excursions. There is also a hut at the end of the beach near the Merengue which sells excursions at upto half the price charged by Thomsons.

The beach is very very hot but lovely white sands and clear blue water, there are vendors along the beach if they have numbers on their tops then they are licensed to sell along there, its safer to buy from these people.
The road in this country are very holey and always under construction but the bus drivers never cause you any harm and are very humourous.

The beach was immaculate with no litter anywhere including all walkways and paths. The entertainment was lively and profesional and varied... early evening devoted to the children who seemed to love the disco.. then chaged to an adult theme. Day time entertainment was non stop if you wanted it or simply chill out by the pool or relax by the sea''' 1 min walk!!

l would nt go out went out once to go and see my husband in hospital and would nt go off the resort again a man that was at the hotel walked dowm the beach 2oclock saturday afternoon and came back with broken ribs and a sore face he only walked to take some photos not safe at all unless you go with a member of staff our a taxi driver has for the beach lm still getting rid of the bites from the sand flies to be honest the beach was not what l thought it was going to be blackpool beach is much better

The resort was spotless but there was nothing to do and the beach was OK but it was a bit scruffy.
I would not mind if I would visit this hotel again.

Our hotel the Riu Merengue was 9km west of Puerto Plata and we did not bother paying for a taxi to visit this resort. It looked grim enough on the coach transfer from the airport, that was enough to dissuade my wife from wanting to visit the resort during our holiday.
