Pernera is still a small resort and therefore limited for shopping, but using the local bus service negates that issue

lovely area of cyprus and the walkway into protaris is so nice lots of restaurants and bars, for a nice quiet night out walk into penera or for a livelier night walk along the beachfront walkway into protaris.

The beach was a five minute walk and was good for small children, few bars and supermarkets just outside the hotel, Del Boys was good for a drink if you wanted a break just across the road complete with yellow Reliant Robin outside, very clean resort no louts around, good place for children and couples, Pernera was nice good bars and shops, then you could take the coastal walk into Protaros nice 20 min stroll but hot, the bus was every 20 mins and you was there in 5 mins or so, lot busier but nice plenty of shops and bars also clean and fig tree beach was lovely, went into Ayia Napa in the daytime could not wait to get back hated it, untidy and kids on bikes beeping every second and the roads dangerous with young children.

Would recommend Pernera and Protaros to families and couples, we was a mixed age bunch and everyone enjoyed it and said they would return again, felt safe and never heard of any trouble in the 2 weeks we was there

My first visit to Protaras I was suprised how small the resort was, we hired a car locally and cheaply (don't use reps or hotels as the rip you off) we traveled around driving is easy in Cyprus.
The people in Cyprus are lovley and very hospitable.
Avoid the Ghetto Bar, one of the young girls in our group had a drink spiked but it was luckily spotted by a relative!

Pernera (which is sometimes classed as Protaras by travel agents) is a little quiter than Protaras but has enough going on for us. There aren't any major things like bungee jumping or massive theme parks there but there is a small waterpark, lots of water activities (boats, jetskis, banana boats etc, boat trips, glass bottom boats).
Lots of bars and restaurants in the area, some restaurants do theme nights with dancing and meze, while many bars have "acts" on)
The area is still being added to so there are odd bits where building work is going on but it hasn't been any sort of problem for us (and we have been going since 2004 and had building work right under our window in one hotel). Beaches are small and many ! you can wander off the road one way and get to a nice little beach, go another way and come across another.
Recently there has been a new coastal path that goes between Pernera and Protaras which makes walking between the two much more pleasant and easy.

Pernera has plenty to offer and is one of the main resort areas where local Cypriot familes stay when they are on holiday (which tells you it must be right !)

Most places have ramp accessability but some of the pavements can be large steps and sometimes pipes can protrude for water supplies (but don't let this put you off as most people walk at the side of the road anyway)

If you need a change of scenery for more hustle and bustle a 20min walk to Protaras or a short taxi/bus ride will have you in Ayia Napa, then back again for the more relaxed atmosphere of Pernera.

We first went to Cyprus in 2004 and fell in love with Pernera and have been going back ever since. We have also driven all over looking at Paphos, Limmasol, Larnaka, Troodos, Nicosia, Ayia Napa, Paralimni which are all great places to visit (and for others to stop at) but we prefer to go back to Pernera.

Well thats us for another year, no doubt we will be back !

The resort of Pernera was on the whole, as clean as you'd expect with the amount of people it caters for. Entertainment can be found at most, if not every bar, ranging from Tom Jones to Robbie Williams tribute acts. The bars cater for all tastes, foodwise as do the many restaurants. The two bays which mainly service Pernera are both very busy with watersports available at both, however, a small amount of rubbish(paper, plastic bottles, etc)could be seen at the watersedge of Pernera bay. This is the third time we have visited Pernera and can honestly say, we would again.

the beach areas probably could do with a bit more litter removal in some places. entertainment was good with many lively bars and restaurants within easy walking distance.
