Beaches

The resort of Panera is small quite and friendly nightlife is strictly low key. i.e. bars and resturants. But for the more energetic Agya Napa is only a 15 minute taxi ride away. The beach is small with sand and rock but there are water sports available and the beach is kept clean.

Pernera is very different from Protaras. Much quieter but you have the choice to visit the busier areas if you want to. We managed to stay in Pernera for nearly every night bar the odd one and found enough to do. There are a couple of tiny beaches which are very pleasant with very safe water. We always managed to find somewhere nice to eat out. I would also recommend that you visit Paralimni which is a village just a little further up the road.

I found the resort clean and bright and spacious. There are a few bars and restaurants around but its not as busy as protaras where there is more choice. The only fools and horses bar was fantastic. Home made food like chips, steak pies etc. all great prices. They had plenty of places to go if your looking for the more traditional cypriot meal. People are so friendly compared to other resorts like spain etc. The beach is stunning with lovely golden sand and clear sea and water sports. I would love to go to this resort again. This resort is ideal for couples but I think you'd find it hard to keep young kids occupied. A great holiday. Its only about an hours flight to Egypt if you fancied a trip. We took a mini cruise from ayia napa to famagusta which took the whole day. we had our lunch, you can go snorkelling during the stops. For someone who is afraid of water and boats and travel sickness i gave it a try and loved it.

Pernera is about a 15 minute walk from Protaras. It's quieter than Protaras, but there were a lot of pubs and restaurants in the area, so very good for stumbling home! The only downside - pubs including our own apartment bar, closed too early!!! The beach here is lovely.
Nice beach but not a quiet area as advertised.
Put us off Cyprus for good. Such a shame lovely country but our accomadation experiences there were totally unacceptable and belive me we are not complainers or fussy.
Go to Sivota instead, now thats a brilliant Olympic holiday.

We stayed at Pernera with just a short walk to the nearest little bay.
Turning right, a walk along a beach road for about 15 mins was Protaras Beach, then a further 5 to 10 mins and you are at Fig Tree Bay. Protaras was busy but clean, with plenty of bars restaurants and childrens entertainment, the beaches were nice and clean.
Turning left, again a walk along a beach road was a series of small bays the third one being Pernera Beach, which in our opinion was the best, not so crowded as Protaras with a couple of snack bars surrounding the bay, we tended to use Dominiki Apts take away, they also do good breakfasts, up to the far end of the beach up on the rocks is a fish restaurant, this makes the best freshly squeezed orange juice we have ever had, do NOT go to the other end to we think it was called Pele's Beach Bar, the man in there was most rude unhelpful and ignorant, clearly he just couldn't be bothered. Pernera Beach is clean but there was a bit of building work noise from nearby, this didn't bother us much.
Pernera town had lots of bars and restaurants and a supermarket at the top which was also a bakery selling the most mouth watering pies and pastries.
