Pernera is an extension to Protaras and is much quieter with its own small safe bathing bay and sandy beech with jetty for boats.
Beech loungers and parasol are readily available for hire at £1 per day each.
WE would recommend Pernera if you are looking for a relaxed break without too much noisy entertainment, though this is available in Protaras which is only a 70 pence bus ride away.

Situated about a half mile from the Windmills apartments.
A fairly quiet relaxing sandy coved beech with facilities for the hire of sun loungers and parasol but very little else though shop for drinks and ice cream are on hand and boat trips are available from here.

Beautiful location and beach let down only by the accomodation. Would definitely go again to Pernara.

The resort was not very clean really and there was a lot of stray cats about!!!
The resort entertanment was very quite due to low season and lots of bars and reastaurent closing for the winter season.
The beach was ok not the best I have seen.

The resort is clean with enough bars and restaurants to keep you going. There are also the usual gift shops.
There are a number of nice sandy coves around the area and the sea is lovely and clean.

I thought the resort was dirty no entertainment outside the hotel you had to walk or get a taxi.
Nno I wouldn't visit this hotel or this part of Cyprus again also the weddings are better at home. Waste of money keep your money in your pocket leave this one alone

The beach is only 100 yards from the Anais bay, with all types of water sports and boat trips. There is a supermarket and a cafe on the beach.
Pernera is a small restort with the usual selection of bars with entertainment, but only a short taxi ride away is the larger resort of Protaras with lots of restaurants, shops and entertainment.

Pernera was clean enough there are a few good pubs to quench your thirst!!!
If you want more busier then into Protaras you need to go. Pubs in Pernera to try are Nautilas, windmills, knights bar, western star just to name a few!!
Beach is lovely and clean water nice and warm. Would visit again and have as we are going again Sept for the 4th year in a row!

The resort of Pernera is about a 10 min walk from protaras. It is quieter than Protaras and the hotels/apts, restaurants are spaced out..i liked this because which ever restaurant you chose to eat in, they always remembered you. It isnt dead in pernera, its as noisy as you wish, the Windmill apts has its own live music every night until 2-3 am, i wouldnt stay in these apts because of the loud karaoke and music, but its full of British as is the bar across from it. There are super markets and lovely restaurants. A particular favourite for families and kids is the restaurant is the 'FRESH-HOUSE'.it is situated a little up the hill from the windmill apts on the same side. In the evening it has a neon green light on it. All the restautant has open sliding doors. it caters for everyone is very cheap with good prices and huge portions. A 3 course meal for 3 adults with drinks costs from Cy£25 and thats steak. If you want burgers, chips and salad its about Cy£2.80 and believe me its huge. A large pint of coke, sprite, milk shake is Cy£1.50 and Keo beer i think was a quid.
We also went to Sizzlers for a steak, equally nice, situated near tot he pernera beach hotel, but you didnt get as much as the fresh house. There is a pizza hut where you can get 20% 0ff your next bill next time, that was nice as well.
They do have a friends bar and only fools and horses bar but thats the other end near to the Anastacia apts.
The shops are a lot cheaper than any where else on the Island and you can purchase all your trips here without spending over the odds with your tour rep.
usually tourist tat and nice jewellery shops, two i think.
The beaches are rocky inlet coves but quaint and an array of water sports.....prices all in cypriot pounds Cy£
jet skies - £15 for single, £20 double
pedaloes - £5 an hour
canoes - £3 an hour
Super mable (sofa on the water) £5 for 5 mins
ringos - £5 pp for 5 mins
speed boats - 1 hour = £15....3 hours £25.
Paraguilding - £15 for 10 mins
You can also ski and weight board as well.
At the Pernera beach hotel you can book up for the undersea adventure. You walk with a helmet on and feed the fish, you look like a spaceman. No big air canisters on your back, great fun and you are only in your own family or group. The bus picked us up from the Golden Coast hotel and it cost Cy£20 pp although on the web site i think it says Cy£28pp
The area of Pernera is a little quieter than protaras and not as tacky with sprawling hotels, karaoke bars and bumper to bumber of people pushing their way through the crowds. We did visit in August 04 and it was 90 - 100 degrees most days.
I have been to pernera a few times and will keep going back, my daughter is 15, and we are aged 39 and 40 years.....Its not tacky and its a lovely village kind of resort where you can make friends very easily. I hope tourism doesnt spoil it.

We did not stay at the hotel in the evenings but chose to walk to the centre of Pernera (approx 15 min) or to Protaras (approx 30-40 min). We would recommend The Stuffed Olive and the Kartanas restuarants here (the Kartanas in particular had excellent service comparable to that of a top restaurant in the UK) and in Protaras the la Strada Italian and the Raj Indian are excellent. The Mexican is also very good.
The Windmills Bar in Pernera is very lively and the Elvis impersonator on Tue and Sat is well worth a night out. We also had traditional Cypriot meals in the Windmills restaurant and they were very good. The most we paid for a meal was approx CY30-32 (with wine).
We hired out a car for two days - highly recommended. It is worthwhile visiting the village of Agros in the mountains where rose water is made. We also visited a winery close to Trimiklin village which is en-route to the Troodos mountains. We were given a tour and wine tasting by the owner which only cost CY1.00 each. Go early when there are no coach parties there. We also went to Deryneia which is the closest we could get to Famagusta (the ghost city).
