Take a torch for night-time. Returning to the hotel at night is dangerous.

Get a ground room floor as it will help as there are no lifts to the other floors so it can be a bit of a walk with a pram.
Make sure on the strip you visit the Meze restaurant with the funny symbols in the name. It is one of the best Meze places in Protaras. Also Molti was a great restaurant to stay in.

The strip was awful, you could have been anywhere. Kareoke, Elvis bars, and sports bars all competing..YUK. The 70s and 80s music was the last straw. Its so outdated. Who wants only fools and horses and cheers bars! I did not feel I was in cyprus.
You had to search for a "traditional" taverna, we found a cracking one called ANEMOS, by the capo bay hotel, saved our holiday!
*Weather hot and lovely,
*Hotel good (odessa)
*Beaches, OK best bit is by sunrise hotel, not so many rocks in the sea. Fig tree lovely but too crowded even in Oct.
*Didn't see mosquitoes, but they saw mwe and I got some nasty bites.!
* we found it quite expensive.
*Worst thing was so many hungry cats which I found upsetting, what happens when the resort shuts to them all, it was so dam sad.
To sum up, we enjoyed the break, late sunshine, beach Ok but too many sunbeds on it., sea was crystal clear,
Trip to Farmagusta a must (book with independant trip operators, so much cheaper than with reps).
Would go back to cyprus but not protaras

We stayed in Pernera, at the Elamaris. This is a town rather than a village, with a big road running through it. There's a pizza hut, a chinese, a selection of steak houses and pubs and one or two Cypriot restaurants.
We saw the water park, but didn't visit, our kids (11 and 13) preferred a day on the beach. We did visit Ayia Napa water park, this is simple from Pernera, take the bus towards Protarus and Ayia Napa, it goes right to the park and picks up again in the car park, every 20 minutes for 80c each.
The beach was superb, it's a small bay with a hotel on each side of the bay and the blue bay taverna and a supermarket at the top. There are so many fish, and they are used to being hand fed by the scuba divers, so you can swim right up to them. We saw octopus and all sorts of underwater creatures. It was easily warm enough every day in October half term to spend all day at the beach, but not so hot that burning was a problem.
The blue bay taverna was our preferred place to eat, with a good range of local dishes, local carafe wine and good service, with tables overlooking the bay.
We tried a diving introduction with the Taba diving school in blue bay. The kids wanted to do it, I didn't, and was quite wary, but our instructor Steve was so patient and pursuaded me that I could manage, he was right and it was just a wonderful experience.

The resort was busy even at this time of year (Oct). Entertainment was missed throughout the evening but in the day was quite low key. The beach was gorgeous, the wind picked up during our stay so some boat trips were unavailable, but only for about 3 days. Very clean too.

Returned to Protaras any times, just love the place, and on this occasion had to use the medical services, when my daughter came of the flying fish, and broke her arm and dislocated her shoulder, the water sports staff rushed her straight to the local hospital just round the back of the town. Within and hour she was operated on in theatre the service was excellent, I stayed with her for 2 nights and was made to feel very welcome, they provided me with breakfast only, but her food was cooked to order with dishes like spagetti meat balls, and sausages etc. The Protaras Medical staff were fantastic, Well done and thank you.
Other than this slight hiccup, I could not fault the resort for cleaniness, friendlyness and overall good service in all resturants and they are loads to choose from.

The resort of Protaras is excellent, plenty of bars and restraunts. The beach is fantastic, and where ever you stay you don't have to walk far. We particularly liked the Astoria restraunt near to the Tsokkos Beach Hotel. The steaks are fantastic.

Pernera
A small resort with bars, restaurants, shops which are dotted over a 30 minute walk. No beach worth talking of, a bit disappointing. Unless we took a wrong turn Pernera together with Protaras seemed to be purpose built for tourists. Not very much to look at in terms of Cypriot living and their history.
Protaras
A larger livelier resort with lots of bars, restuarants and shops. Beach is ok, however very, very busy. The sea is so clear and warm, definitely worth a dip or float (lots and lots of salt enables you to float on your back without moving a muscle - quite a novelty!)

This was our first visit to Cyprus and the resort of Protaras has left a lasting impression on us - what a lovely place. Life is lived at a slow pace here and you can't help but be relaxed and chilled out...
Excellent ammenities and all tastes and budgets accomodated.
Watch out for the scooters, it seemed that every time we tried to cross the road we had to wait for a dozen to pass us!!!!!
The locals working in the supermarkets etc did seem a little abrupt at times but i think it is "their way" and they don't mean to offend. The staff in the restaurants were quite the opposite and bent over backwards to make your dining experience a pleasurable one.
Fig Tree Bay Beach is a must - it is absolutely beautiful and extremely clean. 2 sun beds and a brolly cost us £4.75 CYP per visit....well worth it.
If you like a Steak you must pay a visit to Georgios - absolutely fab food though on two occasions we had to wait half an hour for our main course. The quality of the food made it easy for us to forgive them!
Amongst other places we ate and thoroughly enjoyed our meals were, Oscars, Nicholas and Flintstones. All were excellent value for money, two courses for two adults and one kiddies meal with drinks was roughly 30.00 CYP - you get what you pay for!!!
We would recommend this resort without hesitation.....
