Take a torch for night-time. Returning to the hotel at night is dangerous.

Get a ground room floor as it will help as there are no lifts to the other floors so it can be a bit of a walk with a pram.
Make sure on the strip you visit the Meze restaurant with the funny symbols in the name. It is one of the best Meze places in Protaras. Also Molti was a great restaurant to stay in.

Having upgraded to all-inc didnt spent too much time out and about. However near the hotel there are a few bars & restaurants. The station bar & fools & horses deserve special mention. Main Protaras has everything you would expect from a holiday resort. Bars cafes & restaurants to suit all budgets. Supermarket on the doorstep for any bits & bobs you might require. Marlita beach has water sports which were enjoyed by all however as a beach not up to much. Apparently if you travel further afield fig tree bay is worth a visit.

It was lively and had quiet bars too. Lots of lovely restruants.
The beach was the most beautiful one I have ever seen (Fig tree bay) and the water is totally clear.

the resort is very clean and tidy i could not fault it cleaners at it from 7am with hose,s and brushes cleaning the place . there is as much entertainment as one would want bars and tavernas in abundance cheapest i seen was a 3 course meal for £4.95 chicken main course and £7.50 the dearest t bone steak for main cource local beer keo £1.80 a pint 6 and your on your back cocktails £2.00. imported beer a bit more exspensive about the same as back home but in the supermarket very cheap i usually have a couple before i go out. with the pool right on the beach we dont really go to the beach we would rather hang around the pool the beach is a lovely sandy cove a bit stoney in places it is ideal for kids as it slowly shelves away and gets deeper the further you go out buy yourself a snorkle kit and swim with the fish its like being in a giant aquarium bring a few loafs from the breakfast and feed them under the water, make sure you take an underwater camera with you

Protaras is a great family resort. We had a great time and visited the beach nearly every day. Stavros runs all the water sports in Figtree bay and was well organised although a bit pricey. The beach was lovley and gently sloped. My husband and son snorkelled and said the fish were amazing.
Protaras has a busy and quieter part. The quieter part to the left and the busy bit is up around McD's.
We never had a bad meal in the fortnight and there are plenty of good restaurants to choose from.
Our favourite has to be Anatolia, a jewel in the crown. A lovely family run taverna just past McD's and round to the left about 50 yards. The mezes were to die for and the steaks- well probably the best I have had in a long time. The staff are so friendly and nothing was a bother, after your meal the men got brandy and the ladies got a liqueur and a rose. Such a nice touch.
The resort had lots of kareoke bars if you like that sort of thing. A great cocktail bar - The Ghetto bar with a happy hour 6 - 10pm and lovley bar staff. The Loveboat bar had some good entertainment.
We will cetrainly go back to Protaras, but it might get a bit too busy in middle of July

The resort was fairly clean - could have been better. The entertainment is for adults only. No childrens entertainment apart from a magician twice a week at Flintstones. Entertainment did not start until 10pm at night. Kids were ready for bed then. Beach was unclean in parts. I would visit this resort again but with teenage children

Can't fault Protaras as a resort for cleanliness and the beaches are superb, although you have to be fairly quick if you want to get a bed! Come 11.00am and you were struggling to find one, especailly on a Sat/sun when all the Cypriots hit the beach.
One eating place is better than another, and I would be hard pushed to find one to complain about. If you are on a budget I can recommend the family run restuarant that is attached to the Min-Golf up the side of the Alva Hotel. The meals are delicious and ridiculously cheap. Absolutely first-class for a family.
The only reason I have put that we wouldn't go back to Protaras is because, basically, we are too old for it!!
I would say it is a resort for families and couples up to around 50ish. To us it is the stuff of nightmares, and why people go to Cyprus to sit and watch: Cheers, Friends and Only Fools and Horses, is completely beyond me. Having said that my son of 40 and his family loved Protaras and all it's noise and I am quite sure he will return.

First time in Cyprus and I must say I was totally impressed with Protaras. Its lively, safe and caters for all tastes, the beaches in and around the wonderful Fig Tree Bay, have a wonderful variation, you can relax on the sandy beaches and swim in the bath warm water of the Mediterranean, its slow sloping sandy bottom making it safe for kids and non swimmers alike., or go either side of the bay and the rocks make it ideal for snorkelling and fishing in these crystal clear waters.
There is also a vast array of water sports available along the beach at competitive prices, for Para -sailing, jet skiing, and all kinds of floats and boats plus excursions to nearby places of interest. The beach does get busier at weekends when the Cypriots arrive from Nicosia and surrounding areas to enjoy the sunshine, I have never met nicer people and everyone gets on so well here.
The restaurants give you plenty of choice, with both cosmopolitan and local cuisine available and there’s even a MacDonald’s and Pizza Hut for the really hard to please. My personal choices were the Nissiotis tavern on the beach near my hotel, and the Astoria restaurant cant miss it got a double act of a bald man and a parrot outside I think his name is Chris and the parrots called Koko. The food and service here as in all other places we tried is fantastic, they like an Elvis or two here and there’s a whole host of tribute cabaret shows to entertain you if you so desire, plus a couple of theme bars, traditional tavernas and nightclubs.
However, the thing that struck me most about Protaras is the warmth of its people, nearby attractions include Ayia Napa a taxi or bus ride away for the livelier club and bar scene or hire a car and explore the blue flag beaches of both Ayia Napa and Larnaca or escape to the cooler climate of the stunning Troodos mountain range approx hour and half from resort well worth a visit, as is the water park at Ayia Napa a day you wont forget.
Cyprus is now a member of the EU, and it isn’t cheap but it is reasonable. Smokers can get 20 cigs for £2 and wine and spirits are still good value, Protaras is a modern resort that caters for families, couples young and old alike, there are plenty of shops and supermarkets for all goods and souvenirs, building work is minimal mainly on the outskirts, and as yet the resort isn’t tainted with an overkill of British bars, Irish bars, timeshare flies, beggars or bar touts the place is very clean and well maintained the locals are welcoming ,polite and speak English to perfection.
The roads are safe and in excellent condition and a joy to drive along should you so desire, with its fantastic climate and hassle free environment. Protaras is a great base for a holiday and I for one hope it remains that way for many years to come.
