Take a torch for night-time. Returning to the hotel at night is dangerous.

Get a ground room floor as it will help as there are no lifts to the other floors so it can be a bit of a walk with a pram.
Make sure on the strip you visit the Meze restaurant with the funny symbols in the name. It is one of the best Meze places in Protaras. Also Molti was a great restaurant to stay in.

Protaras is noisy, built up, full of traffic and fast food outlets and lacks any local charm.
However there are plenty of shops and restaurants and bars, which are all worth visiting if that is what you want from a holiday.
Waterworld at Ayia Napa is well worth a visit rated 9/10 by my 2 boys of 8 & 11.

Protaras is a busy resort which has grown dramatically over the years, with lots of nightlife and pubs not to mention beautiful beaches and activities. It is surrounded by beatiful countryside and is not far to get to other places by local transport and also tour buses. There are lots of amenities by way of supermarkets and laundry facilities, usually in the downstairs of hotels. Now it is possible to go over the border to the occupied area and that makes for an interesting day out too. Cars are inexpensive to hire and driving is easy because it's the same as the uk. Roads are much less congested but driving can be haphazard by some locals!

Protaras is an excellent family resort. It is clean fun and very friendly.
There are some fantastic restaurants. Yanna Marie near the beach is superb.
Been to Protaras for the last 3 years and we have booked again no where else better.

The resort is very clean, and improves every year when we return, there are plenty bars and restaraunts for couples and family's, if you have kids nearly every restaraunt has a fantastic play area, the beach at Fig Tree Bay has got to be the best on the island and there are plenty boat trips to to go and see Famagusta which is a great experience, you cannot fault protaras it has everything for everyone will definately be returning.

Peaceful, relaxing area of Protaras, away from the main centre but close to everything you want on holiday.
Definitly for couples and families.

At Easter the resort was very quiet execept for the hotel and the Blue Spice resturant across the road which lives up to it's excellent reputation and is busy every evening with familes, groups and couples. Spirts and mixer for £1 at the Barley Mow, on the road leaving the village behind the Blue Spice (near to the doctors)friendly staff and the popcorn is a nice touch. Keep going for about 1/4 mile for ATM at the banks, nice beach here too in this small resort, take a walk back along the coastal path. Take the coastal walk to the right of the hotel for about one mile to get to the large beach in the centre of Protaras you can walk back along the main road. Cocktails for £1 in many bars in the centre so you may need a taxi back, around a fiver. Many took the bus 50c to Aiya Napa from near to the hotel. Glass bottom boat pulls in for trips and plenty of watersports nearby. Everyone was very friendly and the weather was in hot in April. This holiday was so much more than we expected.

I thought Penera was lovely, although I wondered whether it should be renamed Tsokkosland, as they all seemed to Tsokkos hotel or apartments. Even the scooter rental out front was owned by him. Lovely beaches and walks, loads of supermarkets and plenty of restaurants and bars. I wouldn't go at Easter again as nearly everything was closed up still, totally unlike the Canaries and I think even Paphos is livelier. Protaras mainstreet was like a ghost town, the first week especially - it livened up a tad in the second week. I'd recommend the Greenery Bar in Protaras which was the liveliest when we were there - theme bars like Friends and Flinstones were completely empty.

Very touristy. Nothing very genuinely Cypriot. Yes the beaches were beautiful, but it was too cold to swim when we went. Lots of pubs, souvenir shops, supermarkets, hotels, apartments, and disappointingly... English Food! Please note: the food is expensive. At least London prices. Also karaoke and Elvis-impersonators should be banished. The best thing was the gorgeous view from our apartment on the beach on the 5th floor. But next time I would stay in the mountains or somewhere else where I can experience the real Cyprus.
