Well, we have just returned (4 of us aged between 47 - 53) on 20th September 2002 from a two-week stay at this hotel and resort booked through Thomson Gold. Our full review is below but a shorter summary follows:
Summary
The Agios Gordios Hotel is certainly not 4T or 'A' class. We would rate it at 2/3T at best.
The facilities are average and the rooms OK. Do not upgrade to a superior room, as you will not benefit very much from the extra cost. They will simply put a kettle in the room and provide a sachet of coffee and a tea bag on arrival. After that you will need to provide your own tea and coffee. You will also have dressing gowns to use!! Take a travel kettle instead and ask for cups to be placed in the room as we did.
The food at breakfast was OK but at dinner we found it below par and very similar each evening. Some of the food selection was made from processed chicken and turkey and not very palatable. Also the temperature of the food varied because the "bain-marie" (buffet counter) was not filled with water and heated - we presume to save costs. Soup selection was good but once again it seemed the soup cauldrons were not switched on so it wasn't always hot. The Thomson rep reckoned this was because the Greeks don

My husband and I went to the Aghios Gordios for a week in August 2002. We are both in our late 30's but found the hotel atmoshere and entertainment more suited to the over 45's. The room was great but the hotel overall was a bit shabby. The food was average but the music played was awful - tapes must have been about 20 years out of date!!! Drinks were very pricey so we stayed sober for most of the week . The views are magnificent - try and get a table by the window for evening meal and watch the sunset - amazing !!
Overall I would say this holiday was good but not brilliant. The steps were a bit of a pain but not as bad as expected.

Arrived late Friday evening after pretty hairy coach ride from airport. First impression of hotel very good - room excellent, twin beds, armchairs, carpet, air-con etc. Unpacked and went down to lounge bar for gin&tonic nightcap - first shock of the holiday - 2 not very strong G&T's: 13 Euros!!!!! Greece used to be cheap - no longer - prices at least as much as UK and normally more. Apart from prices, hotel is very good - Thomson staff very helpful, fantastic food, always lots to do if you want to, evening entertainment variable but mostly very good.
Resort is OK - one main street with usual selection of cafes, supermarkets and tourist tat-shops.
Beach is superb - sand all the way, and the water more like a lake than the sea. Lots of tavernas at the back of the beach - drinks etc much cheaper and more generous than hotel.
Good trips on offer from Thomson - we went on the Island Tour and evening shopping in Corfu town - both good value.
The brochure says 'not suitable if you have mobility problems' - TOO BLOOMIN RIGHT!! You can access the beach from the hotel via fairly steep steps (lots of them) but this entrance is locked at 11pm every night. Too long at the beach bars and you are faced with a walk along the beach, back up through the village and the up and down some killing hills to the hotel main entrance. A strong incentive to get home early!!
To sum up, this was a superb two weeks, only partly spoiled by the cost of drinks etc particularly in the hotel. We both said we would like to repeat but we'll see how the money goes.
