Location
The hotel was generally kept clean, the maids eventually clean everyday but to be honest sometimes it was hard to tell if they had been or not.
The pool is really big and very deep about 15 feet because of the 3 diving boards they have, there are 2 playgrounds for the kids 3-5 and 6-12 a tennis court and a 5 aside court(played it 4 times when I was there, not easy when the temprature is in the 90s).
The hotel has 3 bars, the pool which is expensive but convenient, the reception bar which is pleasant and relaxing and last but certainly not least the casablanca bar this is where the hotel has it's very varied entertainment you will have a good night in here, look out for the crewe alex top hanging above the bar it was mine.
The hotel is right on the strip so it's got a great location, the hotel has a supermarket but use the one just over the main road much cheaper.
The hotel staff could have smiled a bit more especially at the pool bar, reception is 24 hours and they are very helpful as were all the reps, there is the kids club and the creche, our kids were hardly out of them, they are good for the kids and adults because every gets a break from each other.
This is a superfamily hotel with excellen entertainment Tucker, Ian and See-ann gave us such a good laugh we can't wait till we go back again in October!

The room itself was a studio in which we had plently of room for the two of us. We had a tv, with satelite channels, eg BBC channels, CNN, Cartoon Network, MTV, etc. We paid a deposit of 35 euros, for our room, which you do get back as long as there are no breakages. The deposits range from 35 euros to 70 euros depending on the type of accommodation you are staying in.
We had a cooker with 4 electric rings, and oven, a kettle, toaster, and microwave. With plenty of utensils.
We had a table and couple of chairs indoors as well as a table and chairs on the balcony.
The location of the accommodation is so central, as it is on the main strip, and therefore depending on where you are staying in the complex in high season you could be disturbed by some noise.
The staff at the accommodation were great and the thomson reps were great, and nothing was any problem for them.
I will definately return to this accommodation.

We stayed in one of the villas surrounding the pool, although there are apartments available in the main block too.
The villa was for 6 and was HUGE! It was very well equipped and looked out on a large grassy area surrounding the pool. The kids club reps did an excellent job entertaining the children and as this complex was in the centre of the "strip" there was plenty of entertainment close at hand.

The reps kept them entertained everyday without the need for them to even find the tennis courts etc!! They played water polo / lilo polo / water rugby and water basketball everyday. The reps made the teams different everyday so that the same teams didn't win everytime. They particularly enjoyed the day it was 'scousers' against the rest of the world.
Our son is 6'2" and was nicknamed 'the big kid' because he kept rising up out of the water unexpectedly. We also enjoyed the daily quiz around the pool and managed to win one day much to our surprise.
Our villa was around the back of the complex so was very quiet and was very well equipped. Not much space for the boys clothes though. If our daughter had been with us she would have had to share our wardrobe upstairs which wouldn't have been very practical. The bathroom was the best we've ever had abroad with a really powerful HOT shower.
The complex is at the back of 'the strip' with shops, bars and restaurants as far as the eye can see in all directions HEAVEN!!
It seemed to get more expensive towards the sea end of the strip and cheaper up the hill towards Montechoro but you got what you paid for. We particularly enjoyed the enormous steaks in 'La Bamba' restaurant and you are given a voucher for a free drink in the 'La Bamba' bar/nightclub next door which gets busier as the night goes on.
It is legal to drink at 16 in Portugal so the boys got taken into a bar one night by a 'tout' who was hoping they would stay but mum and dad were there to save them! The strip was not intimidating at all as there were police patrolling along each night. We felt it was very safe for the boys to have a wander to the shops while we were finishing our drinks.
All in all we had a thoroughly good time and would recommend it for families of all ages.

On arrival to the Villanova were asked to pay 50 euros for each room. We were allocated 2 studio apartments, these were huge so well equipped had everything we needed the space, fridge, microwave, stoves, ovens. The bedroom and kitchen area was big enough but there was a sitting area as well.
The grounds were amazing the pool was huge and finding a spot to sunbath in was no problem even if you didn

The beach is a bit of a trek down a steep hill (about 15 - 20mins walk) , but is worth the visit. Although the swimming pool here is great - has 3 diving boards, there is also a kiddies pool & 2 kiddies playground, so you can sit out on the grass sunbathe while the children play.
We had a 2 bed apartment which was clean & very well equipped, was overlooking the pool. Wasn't disturbed by any noise, but some apartments do overlook the 'strip' so maybe these may be affected.
The entertainment was ok though a bit repetitve for the mini disco (but the kids loved it) Staff tried hard to keep everyone happy. The put on shows after the childrens hour, like dancers or the shadow man (!!)also do a karoke.
The Casablanca bar could do with a refurb though - full of grafitti where the pool tables are.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Vila Nova's and would recommend it for families.
