If you don’t mind the noise from the main bar area in the evenings then the rooms close to reception/around the big main pool are ideal as their close to everything, pool, daytime entertainment, restaurant, reception, bar etc Rooms further back behind the gym are better if you have smaller children and prefer not to be disturbed by the evening noise. The pools further back are quieter and the middle pool has a nice splash play area for younger children. If you have rooms on the lower level you do hear footsteps of people walking around above you.

We were impressed with the overall cleanliness of the resort.

The entertainment in the actual resort was not brilliant but the Hotel and the fact that other areas were easy to access with cheap taxi fares for the lazy more than compensated.

In seven years we have not been to the beach but it is something I will do in future.

Yes as soon as possible.

This is a family area with mainly restaurants and family bars. The beach at Maspalomas is very clean and well looked after. The beach area is nice for a walk for all ages and the breeze takes the heat away.

Everything seemed new or just built - ao there would be a holiday type 'village' then a wasteland until the next one,
didnt feel 'joined up' if you know what I mean - but very clean and clinical.
Faro 2 good to visit - saw Holiday World illuminated signs but didnt visit, got the impression it would be a bit tacky, but maybe not.
Best beach we've been to - swept each night. Great for building sand castles/paddling, but a bit rough/cold for swimming in - or maybe thats just in March!

The Sandy Golf is located about 20-30 minutes walk from the dunes of Maspalomas via the road alongside dried river bed. A shuttle bus was provided but we did not use that.
Maspalomas itself is a large flat area, mostly comprised of bungalow/chalet complexes. Most of these have a small supermarket attached. For more shops and larger supermarkets you need to visit one of the Commercial Centres.
One on the beach there are numerous snack bars etc. Near the lighthouse (Faro) there were a range of shops and restaurants (and expensive hotels), but most of the nightlife seemed to revolve around the hotel bars and various Commercial Centres where the majority of bars/restaurants are located.
Overall, the area is pleasant, quiet and peaceful - PDI next door is where the action is (allegedly - we did not venture there at night).

Maspalomas it quite a large, clean and spread out place and you could be quite a long way from the beach. Although, we had a 2km walk we still managed to walk to the beach and back, the route being flat (taxi fare 3euros). The sea can be a little rough when it's windy but you can always find a quite place in the sand dunes out of the wind (great sun traps too, we came home with all over tans). We ate out every night, mostly at the Faro 2 shopping centre, which is ideally situated for El Palmeral. Our favourite place was Cho Juanillo although we always had a great meal in a restaurant on the beach. If you have a day to spare you must do a jeep safari into the interior. The scenery is spectacular and although we had rain it was still an enjoyable day, ending in a camel ride. Zig Zag Safaris are located at Holiday World just across the road from Faro 2. Another place worth a visit at night is the Yumbo Centre. Very cosmopolitan and a great place to sit and people watch. We will definately be going back.

All I can say about mapalomas is it is not for me. I know it was february but it was half term but it was like a ghost town the bars and restaurants were practically empty and as for the faro centre i thought it was a bit of a joke to be honest. I suppose in high season it might be better but the whole resort as far as I could see was geared towards the Germans.

Meloneras seems a more up-market area. It has a nice prom to stroll along. The beach is beyond the lighthouse and is gorgeous. We were AI, so cannot comment on restaurants or entertainment. We hired a car for the week and toured around. Our son enjoyed the waterpark, Sioux City and the go-karts.

The dunes at Maspalomas are fantastic. Miles and miles of sand. Beach was very clean, but it could get very windy.
