If you don’t mind the noise from the main bar area in the evenings then the rooms close to reception/around the big main pool are ideal as their close to everything, pool, daytime entertainment, restaurant, reception, bar etc
Rooms further back behind the gym are better if you have smaller children and prefer not to be disturbed by the evening noise. The pools further back are quieter and the middle pool has a nice splash play area for younger children.
If you have rooms on the lower level you do hear footsteps of people walking around above you.

A very upmarket resort called Melenoras (think that is how it is spelt). It is a short walk along a lovely promenade to Maspalomas. Plenty of shops/bars/restaurants to keep you occupied. The beach at Maspalomas is huge. All in all an excellent resort which we would visit again.

we stayed in sonnenland which is out in the sticks very few entertainment places bus or taxi to the beach which was fine but would not return here again

I would reccomend a walk along to the dunes at Maspalomas it is lovelly and if anyone is going soon hit the Funde Grobe shops the perfume is dirt cheap,like at leat 10-15 quid less than airport prices. A visit to San Fernando market on wednesday or saturday is a must, less than 4 euro in taxi from outside hotel, dont be shy to barter and get yourself excellent copy handbags and belts.
Even if you dont go all inclusive there ae some really nice bars and restaurants along the walk way towards the shopping centres and it all feels really safe even at night.

This area we think is for couples who want a relaxing holiday, if you wanted it busy 5 minutes in a taxi would take you to the biz.

This is a lovely resort and suited us. It has a lovely beach which my 2 year old loved. There is plenty of bars/restaurants and some lovely shops to spend your euros in. I don't think it would suit young groups as not lively enough but would be nice for couples and families. There is a water park and a good market to visit. It is also good for people with pushchairs or the elderly as it is all on the same level, no hills.

Meloneras is beautiful! Especially compared to the other resorts in Gran Canaria! Really upmarket area with fantastic bars and restaurants, fab designer shops and a beautiful promenade which stretches from the top of the resort to Meloneras lighthouse and on to sand dunes @ Maspalomas. No real beach to speak of in Meloneras but made up for by the dunes.
Certainly the cleanest and classiest place i've ever been to and made of 4 - 5* hotels which attracts good clientele. Very flat resort makes it perfect for families with small children and buggies to elderly people.
Small amount of building work to the rear of the resort as 1 new hotel is being constructed but no noise at all can be heard, no dust whatsoever!

Maspalomas is a great place. Not far from anywhere on the south coast. Beach easy to get to, free bus, taxi or even walk.( If you stay close enough) Holiday world is OK but not a night out plave. Faro centre ideal for shops, Bars, eateries etc.
Taxi to Playa Del Ingles for the NIGHTS out, Jumbo and Kasbah centres.
