I just returned from holiday here and it seems to have undergone a few renovations since the last review was written. Allot of the previous review is correct but some of the rooms have air conditioning now, and the coctail bar, although good is without and life at all. A basic entertainment would have the residents packed in, but sadly everynight the place was empty except for the resident families of the staff who live there. The place was good overall but it had a few cocroaches in some rooms. They have internet access now which is good. Also on the downside the place is overrun in peak times with spansich families who are really loud and annoying at evenings. But the place is quiet enough and theres no all night partys like city cetre hotels.
I might go back if i cant find anywhere better.

To be honest I was actually pretty shoked on arrival at the hotel, because it looked a lot more run down than it had done in the brochure pictures- but having got over the initial disappointment, it was fair to say that the hotel was very clean, just a very dated at the same time (which a lot of the hotels appeared to be in the area anyway).

The reception staff were amazing- and we were very impressed with their ability to have 3 conversations at once with spanish, german and english people! It was also handy that we could cash our travellers cheques at reception (as we were spending money like water) with only a small charge of less than 1.50 euros.

Beware of the security guard- he is not keen on large parties or young people, and can often be seen practically chasing to your room at night shouting 'silenco nocturnal!'
There were 13 of us staying at the hotel, and none of us had any major qualms, apart from the fact that the rooms are self-catering, and yet if you want a toaster and kettle you have to hire them seperately form reception (cheeky!), and also, we arrived in the midst of a heatwave- and were dumstruck to find that the hotel wasn't airconditioned! (and we couldn't even hire a fan because they didn't have enough to go around!

But when all is said and done; the hotel was not a complete dive, just very basic. Although it was huge- and their was a fountain surrounded by a huge ramp that spiralled around all 8 floors of the hotel- you can tell that this place used to be something special, but sadly has gone to pot over the years.

We had read reviews and were anxious as to the location of the hotel- but this wasn't a problem at all- we were within a 2 euro cab ride of all the main commercial centres (yumbo, kasbah, irish centre etc) and also the PDI beach, so we were happy that we didn't have to put up with all the tourist noise at nightime like those staying at the beach front hotels would have done.

There are 4 good-sized pools and a kiddies splash pool at the Paraiso, and these were clean and well-looked after- the hotel seems to get very busy with locals at the weekend, but we always had a sunbed (which is good bearing in mind there were 13 of us!) and there are little poolside cafes where you can grab a cheap burger at lunch time.

One thing we all agreed on was that the hotal bar downstairs was cool- and yet not publicised enough within the hotel. We used to go out on the town late, so we could make the most of 'happy hour' which is 10pm-12pm, and you get 2 drinks for the price of one (this includes the cocktails- which were lurvely!!! at euros for 2!)The barman is cool too- he gave us free shots for the first few nights we were there which was sweet. I would only go back to this hotel again if I managed to get a really cheap last minute deal.

After reading the reviews on this hotel , I was abit worried. I was pleasantly surprised when I got there. It was very nice and clean , and the rooms were quite big - probably best I 've stayed in for a while.

The hotel is only 5 minutes walk to the town centre, probably 10 mins to the beach. All the staff were very friendly, especially the bar man. Plenty of special offers in the bar at night. Didnt see on entertainment though.

4 pools as well, so plenty of choice. I went in March and the weather was 27 degrees everyday. No problems with cockroaches or noise neither. All in all we had a great time and would go again.
