ROOM 123 - Stayed at the Galeon Playa and wish we hadn't. On arrival it took 45 mins to check it, then we found our room. We were dismayed to find our room was dirty and smelly but the worst thing was we were right next to the bar. The electrics were dangerous with a wire trailing right over the bed. The bedroom did not have a proper window and as it was located under a passageway it was always dark. There was an "MFI" style wardrobe with broken drawers. The bathroom was equally horrendous with a stained bath. We complained immediately but the reception staff would not help us. They gave us the 24 no. for Thomsons but we got no reply.

We complained first thing the next morning after a sleepless night due to the constant noise. The rep finally arrived but was unhelpful and uncooperative, at one point walking off. We could not get a straight answer out of him. We showed him the room but he made no comment about it.

We phoned the helpline again. Apparently Thomsons have a "no worries" guarantee and if you have any problem they are supposed to have a trouble shooter to assit you within one hour. We never got any troubleshooter. The rep then said he would assist to get us moved and we waited and waited.

At around 6pm the rep then informed us that we would be moved the next day, meaning we had to spend another sleepless night in the horrendous room, we were exhausted and had not been able to have a shower due to the dirtiness of the bathroom.

The next day we were finally moved but the new room was not much better, it was just on the otherside of the passageway and had a dreadful drain smell. We had to buy our own air fresheners and have the windows open at all times.

We later found out that Thomsons know room 123 is a horrendous room but still use it as they want to pack in as many clients as possible.

We also found out the day before we arrived an elderly man had been placed in that room and also asked to be moved, and the day after we moved a couple were placed in that room and also complained about it.

Be very, very wary when booking this hotel, you don't know what kind of accommodation you are going to get and the reps don't want to know if there is any problem.

We have since complained to Thomsons in writing but again, they don't want to know and will not compensate us for the two lost days of our holiday and the distress they caused us.

This is the first time we have stayed ay Galeon Playa, although having spent the last 6 years on holiday in Costa Teguise we were aware of its location. We knew it was a Super-Family hotel before we booked. Although it was not half term there were quite a few children on site. With a few exceptions this did not bother us to much.

The hotel staff and Thomsons Reps combined to ensure that everthing was done to make sure our stay was happy and enjoyable. With this particular "Reps Team" there was no hard sell for trips, if you asked the question you were given all details, and if you wanted to book then it was done immediately. The soft approach must have worked because we booked 3 trips during our stay. (Package Holiday Bosses please note).

The Reps who looked after the children worked really hard and kept them entertained without a lot of noise. One abiding memory is Team Leader Tony running up to the taxi rank to look for the taxi we had booked!

A pleasant stay at a very nice hotel, well worth a return visit.

Recommended Blocks are 7 8 9 and 10 for quietness and seaviews

We have just returned from this hotel, and in our opinion one of the best we have stayed in, I had faxed before leaving and requested a top floor apartment, in the quieter blocks, on arrival we were allocated just what we wanted.

The apartment was spacious, well equipped, and very clean, as was the whole hotel. The reps were on hand, but cannot comment as never had to use them, same for the children reps, and entertainment. The buffet restaurant we only used once, it was fine, but preferred all the outside venues, which in our opinion was way better.

The location is excellent, just a two minute walk to either beach, and shops. We just loved it here and would definitely return.

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday, made so by staying in this great hotel, from the moment we arrived the staff were friendly and helpful, I had requested a room in the new block (after reading reports from this wonderful site) and was given one in block 9, can't fault it, clean, spacious, and well equiped.

The location is excellent, right next to two beaches, a two minute walk and you are there, also to shops and restaurants, so central.

The reps were helpful, without being pushy, and they were there every morning, all morning.

We didn't use the children's reps, but they seemed popular and cheerful.

The entertainment was in a very small bar, not our scene, and we did experience some noise being right across from it, but nothing to worry about.

So so many great eating places here, I think we tried most of them and did not have a bad meal, we did try the buffet at the Galeon one night and would rate it just ok.

We will definately return to this hotel, and to this resort as we all enjoyed it so much, especially the nice cool breeze.

We stayed in hotel from early Sept. We were in block e10 facing the childrens park. My 3 year old daughter thought it was great and also the choice of pools were good. If you like a breeze then the pools near block e10 is for you.

The cleaners were really good, but some days it was about t-time when they got to your room.

The entertainment at night in the bar was good for adults and children.

Would stay here again.

Tots club was great it was my daughters first time in one and she loved it and DJ Alex was great.

The Galeon Palya is a large well run aparthotel with people staying on self catering, half and full board basis.

Our apartment was spacious and spotlessly clean with just enough kitchen facilities to enable comfortable self catering. Balconies are big and most overlook one of the two pool areas.

Apartments were cleaned and towels changed five times a week, with bed linen changed twice a week. We sampled the food only once, on the canarian night, and although ok it was not impressive.

Never saw any of the entertainment but it appeared to be mainly geared towards children and finished about 11:00.

The hotel itself is situated in an excellent location within the resort, pretty much central for everything.

The hotel was a bit tired but still did the job. The room we stayed in was very spacious.Air conditioning would have helped but it was not a major problem. Everything we needed for our self catering holiday was provided at no extra cost ie toaster, microwave, kettle etc. We stayed in block 4 and the local disco and binmen did wake us up.
The room was cleaned to a high standard regularly and the towels were always changed when necessary.
Excellent location for the two beaches, one we snorkelled at and the other we surfed at.Lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
The hotel staff spoke good English and were always helpful.
The entertainment was excellent with very good Tomson reps on hand to keep things going.

We stayed in room 213 in block E3 which is in the older part of the hotel. As a base to explore the island the hotel was fine. Friendly staff, who were very helpful, the rooms were clean athough some fittings had seen better days.
The only real problem we had was that it was very hot at night and we had to have the windows open. Unfortunatly the Jelly Fish Bar Disco next door boomed out dance music until 4.30 am each night and we would be forced to shut the windows to keep the noise down. MAKE SURE YOU HIRE A FAN FROM THE RECEPTION.
If you hire a car do it through the Reception desk. The cars are of a very high quality (we had a Citron C3 Pluriel) but are a third of the cost of the cars offered through the Thompson reps. The reps themselves use this dealer but are not allowed to recomend anything other than Thompsons dealer.

We had a very pleasant time in this hotel. The 1 bed apartment was a very good size and clean. For 2 adults, 4yr old and 16 month old we found it spacious. E10 was the newer block and although it faced the Atlantic Bar where all the hotel's nightly entertainment took place the noise was not a problem for us.
They did provide a kettle (which I did not expect) and toaster.

TV was coin operated which can get a bit expensive as the euros ticked away very quickly.

Fans can be hired for 2euros a day but I think it should be included as part of the furnishings.
Having said that, there was no need for us to hire a fan due to the constant lovely breeze in this part of the island.

The linen were certainly a let down so if there's room in your suitcase pack your own!

There are 4 pools - 2 in the new block and 2 in the old block. The pools round the new block were much quieter - perfect for us. Also the children's play area with climbing frames and slides etc, were located at the new block as are the Kids Club and Kids Creche.
Children should not be bored with the amount of entertainment geared towards them for all age groups. So Mums and Dads should get some respite!

We went SC which is ideal. We tried their restaurant for breakfast and dinner and though there were a good variety of food on offer, being a buffet, the food did not look fresh and appealing. Hence, we tried the numerous restaurants round the resort and takeaways.

My tip - save time on washing the dishes - get disposables.
