My only complaints would be that the pool attached to the canarias section was disgusting, the bottom of the pool was peeling off and there were lumps of white flooring floating in the water.it could also have done with a good clean out.
The entertainment was dier unless you were under 5 and there was not enough entertainment for teenagers and there was a lack of sports facilities and although the entertainment team worked very hard, we felt that they fell down in this area.
Our teenagers went to other hotels to play football etc.
all in all were just another brick in the wall

However after complaining and a frank discssion with the management we were given a far better room the other side of the complex.
The location of the apartments was about 15 minutes walk which was ok if you could withstand the bitter winds that blow on an evening ( take a jacket early season you will need it).
Entertainment was average , we have had worse in 4 and 5 star resorts we have visited.
The swimming pools were freezing and almost unswimmable.
although we thought the rooms themselves were very clean and spacious we would not rate Sands as a 4* .

We stayed in a beach front apartment overlooking the sea and about 10 meters from a man made beach with a sea water lagoon about 1 meter deep in the middle great for kids
we got a taxi from the airport half hour drive and 18 euros
Entertainment Poor
Staff ok

Each villa (or small self catering apartment would be more appropriate) was positioned in a rectangle. There were six of these of which almost everyone overlooked a pool and a paddling pool(the rest overlooked the private beach). While all of this were similar they all varied slightly. Each one had a slope into the water making the pool accessible with a manual wheelchair. Even the main pool next to the Mai Tai poolside bar had a slope. The food there was excellent and average in price.
The staff were all friendly especially four of the entertainment staff. They were very helpful and, if our children were the only two in the kids club they would take them to the beach or allow them to do whichever activity they wanted to. The club was not quiet because it was unpopular it was because it was term time and there wasn't many children old enough to go, there.
The cabarets were ok. A few were excellent the rest average. Daytime entertainment was ok. They would have quizzes, bingo etc. Sports Tv eg football matches were always shown in the Soleil Bar.
Sands Beach is only a 5 mins walk from the centre. From a manual wheelchair point of view it was fine. The kerbs weren't too high and the journey was flat. From an electric wheelchair point of view there weren't enough slopes to get on the kerbs but we managed fine with the chair we hired while we were there.
The only faults we had with Sands Beach were a few accessibilty problems. The shop had wheelchair access from round the back where the deliveries arrived, the gym was unaccessible as was the Soleil Bar. In low season the bar downstairs closes and all the entertainment is moved upstairs. While it is only about 8 steps, accessible for the not so confident on there feet, prams and wheelchairs had to be lifted up. The bar, security and even one of the entertainment staff on his night off were always keen to help. However, once up there, there were no toilet facilities. Smoking is allowed on the balcony were seating is present and is just an extension of the normal bar area.
There are slopes in the centre of the complex but these are too steep for wheelchair users. Access to the Mai Tai etc was safer down either side of the complex.
Apparently a new company had taken over and so a LOT of work is being carried out at the moment. This doesn't particuarly affect your holiday. They are 'doing up' the villas, putting in new furniture, curtains, air con etc. The Hacienda was also being done up so it was closed throughout our 10 day break.
Putting all these things aside the holiday was excellent and we are planning to return. If you are abled bodied the holiday is excellent if you are not its still great. Access problems occurr wherever you go.
Get booked!!!! (directly is a cheaper option)

Good points - the villa in Palmeras was fantastic, the best of the 6/7 areas. All refurbished and very clean with maid service 90% of the time. Villa had 1 bedroom with pull down bed in lounge. Still plenty of room for large sofa and easy chair and dining table and chairs. Fantastic double sinks with seperate toilet and shower/bath so we could all get ready at the same time. Entertainment was also good, the usual cabaret shows in the club with a soleil bar offering karoake and more subdued evening. Reception was pleasant with simple check in and great supermarket that sells everything you need at cheap prices. Also good location right on sea front and pleasant walk along to tequise in the midst of everything.
Bad points - the food was diabolical, the main hacienda restaurant was shut for refurbishment so all the dining was decanted to the mai tai - not only a long walk for my elderly motherinlaw but not worth it either. Food was cold and poor selection. We went full board and only went to breakfast and dinner once or twice the whole holiday. Catering seriously lets this complex down. Had the villa not been perfect in ever other it would have spoiled our holiday. I'd go self catering until dining significantly improved.
Also no air con - we hired two fans (17euro each) for the week - this was bearable but only just - heat topped 36degrees some days.
Overall a great holiday, but would check food arrangements before returning (didn't see any cockroaches and no bites - but we did plug two mosquito machines in!)

Reception is lovely and the staff were great. We stayed in plaza palmares and the villa was lovely..all new with great tv for the kids and a pool 10ft from the patio !!
10 mins walk to many bars and restaurants and the island is lovely to visit..hire a car and go on the safari trip. Lovely place....thinking of buying a villa there

Our children were too young for the kids club but we saw other children having fun with the staff, one day sailing paper boats in the lagoon. We used the babysitting service which I think was 15 Euros an hour. I gather from others that the children's disco was fun but we didn't see or do any of the other entertainments but the bar quiz seemed popular. It was very much a family resort and we didn't see any bad behaviour or suffer late night noisiness.
We had a one bedroom villa - children slept in the bedroom and us on the pull down bed - husband 6 foot 4 and seemed ok on this bed. There was also a sofa bed.
I would not describe this resort as 5 star, the villas were nice but a bit shabby in places (nothing major, didn't bother us). We liked the Mai Tai bar and restaurant, particularly late afternoon as the pool here seemed warmest (it was windy and a bit chilly when we were there). I was disappointed not to swim more but we were a bit unlucky with the weather.
There's a nice sea front walk to Costa Teguise. There are big supermarkets in Costa Teguise and beyond, but the resort shop is very good and reasonable.
Airport is 15 minutes away - we got the resort transfer bus and this was fine.
It would be a lovely place to go with friends and other families.

In summary a basic accomodation good for a base but not a place I would want to spend long days. then again it was cheap and if there is one thing I have learned its you get what you pay for. It certainly was not as bad as some reviews led me to beleive.
