Management has changed since our last visit and standards have declined dramatically.
The hotel now caters for mostly all inclusive, and this has attracted families wanting bucket and spade holidays, and some who just want to drink from morning till night.
The first room we were given was infested with cockroaches. We were moved to a second room. Again infested with cockroaches. The management's answer to the infestations was to move you until you found a room without cockroaches, and to issue you with several cockroach sprays. We wondered if this problem has been caused by people taking food back to their rooms.
It is such a shame that what was once a very good 4* hotel has now been reduced to little more than glorified 2* apartments.
Hint for anyone who has already booked this hotel. As cockroaches don't seem to like bright lights, pull the bed away from the wall, leave nothing on the floor and leave the lights on at night.

Good things about the hotel is that the 'scum element' is non existent. I've stayed in places where the clientele makes me embarrssed to be British but the mix of nationalities at the Jacaranda get along fine and there's no 'boozy British' to lower the tone. Didn't see an England football shirt all week, which was a pleasant surprise.
There's none of the sunbed hogging that can mar a holiday. We reglarly arrived poolside (at the high level pool - can't comment on the main pool on the ground floor) at 10am and found plenty of sunbeds to choose from.
Food was very good. Not quite a 5/5 but if it was out of 10 I'd give a 9. Good mixture although I could see we'd stayed for two weeks instead of one, that we may have got tired of things being repeated. That said, I guess there's only so many foods that can be served up to the masses so I wouldn't be one to complain about dishes cropping up more than once per stay.
The hotel itself is pretty - a nice layout and pleasant to walk around.
On the issue of 'all inclusive' it was our first time doing this and we will do it again. That said, we were disppointed to find that there were no snacks, lollies or ice creams included in the package which would have been handy. As most parents will testify, young children don't always want to eat at set meal times. It was nice to have drinks available to us for free just a few yards from our sunbed in the poolside bar.
Entertainment was a bit naff at times (seems we missed some good acts in the preceding week) but the mini disco was a hit with our five year old. How the entertainment staff can go through with the same routine almost word for word every night for the entire summer is a testament to their mental strength - either that of they're brain dead! That said, all the kids seemed to love it, no matter what their nationality.
If you've come here to read and wonder whether this is the hotel for you then if you want a relaxing time with the potential to do games/events (not for us but there seemed to plenty of events going on) then you will enjoy the Jacaranda.
If you want to be a boozy Brit abroad, then down the road at Playa de Las Americas is the better bet.

The hotel was kept very clean and the staff were generally very friendly and helpful. This hotel is huge and can be a little difficult to negotiate. The restaurant was always very busy but they dealt with the large numbers quickly and efficiently.
There was always plenty to choose from and I would say something for everyone. The hotel is up a steep hill from the beach and in the Costa Adeje area - far nicer than Americas. Very family orientated. The entertainment was always announced in 4 languages. A variety of sports were available with the in-house animation team. Kids club and mini-disco were aimed at younger children. Evening entertainment was the usual mixed bag.
A variety of heated pools to choose from on two floors. Getting a sunbed around the pool can be a problem - you have to be up by 8 and remain on your bed until 9 or your towels will be removed. Guestes at the hotel were a European mix - while we were there the majority were Belgian - they even had their own entertainment team.
Top floor pools and entertainment were aimed at the Italians.

The food could not be faulted excellent...but hotel was full and only using 2/3rds capacity of restaraunt, queue,s were huge at every sitting. Hotel looks like a 4 star in all public area,s ( watch out for cracked tiles round pool tables if wearing heels ) bathroom could be doing with a proper cleaning ie: taps / shower curtain etc.. bedding never changed during visit.
Location is well out if you like any sort of entertainment. Personally I would,nt return to this hotel.

The entertainment was rubbish basically because it was spoken in 3 different languages and couldn't understand the difference and when the English spoken parts were.
The food was poor, the breakfast was all German sausages and we were even served carrots, sweetcorn and peas for breakfast and sometimes southern fried potato wedges, however we did have one day where the food was lovely.
The rooms were comfortable, however, maintenace was going on above us and work started at 7am drilling and taking tiles off the floor.
This hotel is catered more for Germans and Italians even the TV had german channels free but the English had to pay 8 euros a day to use the TV.
In the brochure it said the hotel was in Playa des la americas however its not its in Costa Adeje. Please check before you book your tour operator tells you that you are based in Costa Adeje as most people especially young people wanting to go out every night will have to pay approx 7/8 euros to get into the centre of Playa De Las Americas which is quite costly if doing more than once.

Food - very disappointing and certainly not 4 star - I would go as far as to say more 2/3 star. We are not hard to please but the selection was not great and if you've got kids you may struggle.
Location - we knew it was not near the beach but make sure you don't want a sea view as you will end up in A block near a busy road and no sleep!!
Staff - no major complaints and were helpful when enquiries made.
Entertainment - we booked this hotel for the evening entertainment for our son i.e. mini disco but because a lot of people were AI they used it as extra drinking time and it felt more like a nightclub with kids in. Also they are very keen on all day entertainment which is very intrusive with the PA system blaring out all day - if you like the crazy frog theme tune you will enjoy this hotel!!
In summary the brochure pictures make it look really nice but in reality its quite dated and when you are around the pool area you are surrounded by concrete which is quite depressing. If you want a cheap holiday that's all inclusive then book this hotel but if you want 4 star look somewhere else.

first impressions of hotel were great - its the first hotel ive seen that s actually built into the ground! (you walk in from the street to reception and your actually on about the 3rd floor).
I HAVE BEEN TO THIS AREA MANY TIMES AND I FOUND THE LOCATION VERY SUITABLE.
genarally the staff were very helpful if you need anything but the bar staff around the pool were rude!
entertainment wasnt what i was expecting - its all a bit rushed and the kids entertainment didnt last very long then they are left for aroung an hour before any other entertainment starts - too long for 3yr olds!
The pools on the lower floor were fantastic and i would definately go back to the hotel just for the kids pools - having such a young child i felt at ease when i was sitting on the side and he wanted to be independant (being 3yrs old) and rome the pool unaided.

The Evening meal is of an international style hot and cold buffet, served over two sittings which can be quite busy. Whilst the selection and standard is good, you may struggle if your children only like Chicken nugget and Chips!!
The staff were very good in general and attended to any maintenance issues straight away.
It is a good idea to request a room on the pool side of the hotel, as the other side is on a busy road.
The hotel is worthy of its four stars and we would stay at the Jacaranda again.

1- It is big & a little confusing finding ones way around.
2- Due to the size, a little impersonal.
3- Set evening meal times 6-30pm or 8-15pm. You must decide on arrival. This means queues for lifts & for the food. A fellow guest described it as a scrumdown.
The advantage must be that the food is fresher this way.
4- This location is very quite on an evening.
5- A dripping toilet cistern was reported twice but never fixed.
6- The room fridge is tiny & costs about
