Just back from Hotel Calypso and am happy to say that we would definitely go back there. The rooms were basic and quite small but very clean and the air conditioning worked a treat. We had a room at the back of the hotel which had a pool view which was nice.
The restaurant always got very busy, dinner started at 7:30 but if you got there after you had to queue and wait for a table. You could not fault the food, something for everyone. My youngest daughter is a very fussy eater, before we went away I was convinced that we would have to buy her chips for lunch and dinner but she ate very well. It was self service on cold meats and fish, the pasta dish, soup and the salad. The hot dishes were served on your plate but you could go back as many times as you wished. There was hot and cold deserts including ice cream machine and always lots of fresh fruit to choose from. If you wanted a packed lunch for the next day you had to book it before, the previous evening. When we did this we ordered 4 packed lunches but when we collected them the following morning those four boxes could have feed 8 to 10 people easily and they also put in a bottle of water in each box.
The bar staff were lovely, they loved the kids. The entertainment was good too. At about 8:30 the DJ started playing but he was playing lots of Spanish music and only included the odd ABBA track. After about the third night my Dad had a word and he then started playing more stuff for everyone. There was also an act every night and we enjoyed them all (although they didn't come on until 11:30).
The Pool - this is my only complaint really - it could do with being bigger. A lovely pool with a kids corner but it did get busy. A pool bar which was nice, and a kids playground which was kept nice as well

Just returned from 1 week full board at Calypso(26/10).
Hotel beginning to show signs of wear & tear.
Catering not up to previous years. Restaurant staff not the most cheerful. Beware of meal times given as staff begin clearing up and preparing tables for next meal some half an hour before closing.
Entertainment in hotel is dismal but we didn't go to Benidorm to sit in a hotel.

just returned from 2 weeks stay at the Calypso.
What a disappointment. The Hotel was beautiful but was spoilt by diabolical food and a very poorly managed restaurant.
I arrived on the Tuesday and was taken ill along with many other guests two days later which I am convinced was caused by undercooked and often lukewarm food. Didn't eat in the hotel again simply because I couldn't face the food.
Don't sunbathe by the pool unless your out by 7 a.m., as there are only 6 parasols for any kind of cover. Poolside bar was very rarely open even in temperatures of 100 degrees.
That apart loved Benidorm found plenty of excellent restaurants to eat in. Will return to Benidorm again but definately not to the Calypso.

I have just returned after a week at the Calypso.
What disappointed me was the food in the evenings. It was buffet service but we were served and not allowed to do it ourselves. In fact when I picked up the serving utensil it was snatched from my hand and I was given a sneer. The selection of meats and potatoes was inadequate. Whilst I was queueing it reminded me of the army.
On the last morning we left at 7.30 am but were denied any breakfast. We were told that we could have a lunch pack only, with no drinks.
This hotel is definitely 3 star rating and is nowhere as good as the comments imply.
Finally, the matress on my wife's bed was uncomfortable so she removed the sheets to turn it around. She was shocked by the state of the matress which was completely torn along the long and two end edges, exposing all of the interior. She had a job getting the matress replaced.
