the resort of pineda was very quiet , so it may be good idea to go too near by callela. the beach was of a very good standard but the sea is dangerous for young children.the streets outside the hotel were a bit shabby.i only noticed 2 english bars the tavern + the buccaneer , both very good.you didnt really have to leave the hotel so i,ve probably missed some things others might like!

there was some graffiti on walls and the pavements could of done with a jet wash.
the beach looked nice but was painful on the feet getting in and out the water as their is stones at the edge of the sand(shingle)and also in the water.the water is only shallow for a few feet then it drops quickly you will need to keep a close watch on children, we only went to the beach once as mine prefer the pool.
it was about a 10-15 min walk to the centre of pineda(onto main road and turn left there are some bars and cafes on the way i wouldn't call them resturants)its not a big resort but its ok for a week we stayed for 10 days and i was starting to get bored.there is a tabac, shops selling souveniers, bars, places to eat, hair braiding, henna tattoos, portriats and caracatures being done etc.
the resort is for families not for those wanting to party until dawn.
while we were the they had a fair on and stalls selling hand made goods and it looked lovely all lit up at night, my children enjoyed the rides they were approx 3e a ride.
we found a lovely chinese resturant in pineda were the food was out of this world i had spare ribs and duck with chinese mushrooms and bamboo with egg fried rice i usually have this meal when when we have a chinese back home and i thought the one at home was good until i had it in pineda that one tasted like they had 3 michelin stars(yum).
we did enjoy our holiday but not as much as others we have had i wouldn't return as i like to always try different places but im sure anyone visiting will enjoy the golden taurus park and pineda de mar

There are only a few hotels and bars but there is a scheme enabling hotel guests to hire cycles, kyaks, volley balls and surf boards free. There is an excellent cycle path parallel to the beach.

Having been to the area many many times before, i know what to expect. This stretch of the costa brava is not for young party animals or people that want to get drunk at night and stay out till 4am. It wasnt that kind of place 25years ago when i first went. If you want that kinda stuff then you need to go to Lloret. Pineda it's self does not have a lot to do, a few shops and a few bars and it is very much local people around but its only small and there are some pleasant walks. But you can catch the tractor train or main train (very cheap) and go to Calella, Malgrat, santa susanna where there are more shops, pubs and entertainment. But it aint eva going to be a Magulf!! The resort is not run down as people have said - it's always been like it, it's old and qwaint! As you walk though the narrow streets of Calella - it's people homes your walking past and the local kids will be playing in the church square and the grandmothers will be sitting on the door step, watching the world go by. Its Spainish, not dirty, just different to us back home. Yes there are a lot of places that have closed over the years but they do everywhere. 25 years ago there were water slides on the beach - they are all gone now, proberly health and safety!!! If you want a relaxing holiday, sun, sea and a bit of local culture then this resort area is lovely. If you want a freshly clean tarmac road and fresh white washed buildings and neon signs lit up everywhere and people pestering you go go into the pubs then stay clear - you'll hate it.
My family and i are going back in two weeks and carnt wait!

Word of Warning First!!!
Take very good care of belongings outside of the hotel!
We were pick pocketed at Malgrat train station, 3 others at Pineda station and one in the Friday am market - that was in the space of 2 days.

No night clubs or discos.
In the very close area there about 10 or so bars along the front and supermarket, beach shop and cash machine.
Within 10 mins of walking theres 2 towns with shops banks & tabacs.
Noddy train runs from outside the hotel to both Calella and Pineda from 9am to 9pm (June)for 1.30E one way and 2.20E return.
Calella has 3 tabacs and a main mostly pedestrian shopping street.
Pineda had a better sea front and one main pedestrian shopping street area going back to a town square.

Beach is shingle and pebbles at shore line so beach shoes needed for going in the sea. There is a drop and the sea can be rough, so care needed with small ones.
The beach was cleaned everynight and there were showers and beach bars and lifeguard station.

Market outside and the the right of hotel on Friday mornings.

Train station at Pineda and Calella.
Pineda to Barcelona is 6.40E return, Blanes return 5E return.
Depending on who sold the tickets sometimes our 6 year old went free and other time she was classed as an adult!?!

we love this resort the only bad thing about it is the beach, and the sea just drops, so its no good for kids, but with everything going on in the hotel who needs the beach, when we have the best in the north east.
but really what a lovely resort and fantastic shops.

The resort Pina de Mar was small the only shops were very tourist sovoiner type and despite hours of walking I could not find a decent restaurant as its all pizza and burger places etc. Do go to the Chinese restaurant Grand Mundo if you want to experience Chinese as you never had before! Although you would do well to eat first! (IT’S RUBBISH)
The resort has very good rail links to other resorts on this coast and Barcelona -the trains are cheap, air conditioned and on time. - Possibly the best feature of the resort, although the beach is clean with easy access

drains smell foul
beach is shingle sore on the feet until you get used, watch out for waves the current is very strong, you go out about 4 feet and you find yourself in deep water,
not much shops here, go in to lloret for shopping it costs 24 euros in a taxi, but if you book a meal one of there one of there other hotels you get on the shuttle bus for free{but you have to give the driver a tips every time you get off,i would never go back even if i was getting it for free, gangs of youths start hanging around when it gets dark
