The beach was a shock as on the webcam the beach looked like proper sand and the first day we went it was shock and we never did go back to the beach.
Tossa was a peaceful village and we definatley thought it was best staying in tossa than in Lloret de Mar.
I would reccomend this to people.

What a lovely resort. You actually feel like you are in Spain!
The Old town is not to be missed, such a pretty place. The beach got very crowded, but that is to be expected in peak season. Sand is course, beach kept clean.
Lots of boat trips from the beach. Land train worth a ride, takes you for a good look round the resort for 3 euros per adult. We were half board, but have said that if we return to this resort we would go self catering as there is no shortage of lovely places to eat.
Seemed very popular with Spanish holiday makers, they obviously know its good! did not come across any rowdy crowds. An ideal resort for families or couples.
Very relaxing.

The resort is lovely very old Spain, loads of shops and hundreds of restaurants, they all have very similar menus though. A must is the Steak House on the end of the seafront opposite end to castle. Round the corner and further up time & place pub, run by a great couple with fantastic sandwiches! The castle is well worth the walk round and at night it is fairy tale with its lights. The beach is very course sand, you need your shoes on! The sea is great fun as the waves come up quite fast, kids love it.
I would stay here again as it is beautiful but an apartment next time

Tossa de Mar is a lovely town nestling at the bottom of some stunning hillside scenery.
The old town retains it's original charm and character with narrow streets and old spanish style buildings. The newer part of the town is busy and bustling and has a market every Thursday.
A bus in the guise of a train runs round the town and for 3 euros you can get on and off as you please.
The focal point of the town is the Castle. Fanatstic views when walking up but unfortuately too steep to walk up for maybe the elderley or those with walking difficulties.
The beaches in the area are not sandy - more very fine gravel and they slope quite steeply into the sea. The right hand side of the beach is used largely for boat trips and local ferries. Plenty of beach cafes and tourist shops.
Lots of bars and cafes in the town centre and some of the best cream cakes I've ever tasted in the centre of the town! There are discos but it seemed to be quite low key. Lloret is only a short distance away and is probably better for the clubbing scene.
The town has an abundance of gift shops, clothes shops, leather and bag shops. The main supermarkets in the town are excellent in terms of variety of food for self catering holidays and good value for money.

The resort itself is immaculate...I was taken aback at just how clean it was. It it great for prams, or the elderly as the paths are pretty smooth and the place is very pedestrian friendly...obviously you have to take care at times, but wandering about the streets was an absolute joy. They meander up and down, lots of hidden shops and restaurants to find and all in all a very friendly, family orientated place to visit. Not the usual lager louts to spoil it. There wasn't a great deal for teenagers to do but there is an arcade place down at the beach that has video games, pool, table tennis etc. We went there a few times plus there is a crazy golf near the beach too. We were only there for the week but our 14 year old son loved it and wants to go back. He still keeps in touch with the other kids who were staying at the hotel and they are all going to meet up very shortly. I mst add that on the way to the airport, we detoured to Llort to pick up passengers en route, and I am sooooo glad we didn't stay there. It was manic. At 1.30 am there was people throwing up on the street corners absolute mortal drunk and it all seemed very hectic to be honest. Not where I would want to go on a family holiday. We made a good choice taking that cheap holiday to Tossa De Mar and can't wait to go back again!
Almost forgot about the beach itself! WEAR FLIP FLOPS! It was agony walking on it as it is like sharp gravel, but with the heat on it it was horrendous.... a bit like fire walking! A pair of those rubber like gym shoes would be perfect. The beach here was very clean so that can't be knocked....just the natural state and size of the grains of sand.....OUCH!
As much as I was desperate to go swimming I was worried about the hoards of jellyfish that were in it. Some of the locals were wandering around scooping them out with nets. I did manage some snorkelling for 5 minutes with the family on 'jellyfish alert', and have to say it was absolutely amazing.
You won't be disappointed with Tossa - great resort, no lager louts and friendly people...and glorious weather! Bon Voyage.

The town was beautiful with a lovely shingle beach and great places to eat the streets were very clean and there were some great souvenir shops and no men/women pestering you to buy goods off them which we'd experienced at other places we've visited. Would definately visit this resort again!

Tossa is a great place for families and couples. There are plenty of restaurants, some better than others, some fabulous. There is even a Michelin star restaurant in the old town called La Cuina de Simon, which the Lonely Planet guide raves about (the only reason we didn't go in was because my husband didn't fancy anything on the menu as he is a little picky). The seafood is excellent. (If you want any other restaurant recommendations, PM me.)
There are no lager louts and NO TOUTS trying to sell time shares. There were only two British bars, which was fab as I don't go on holiday to go to a British bar.
The little winding streets are wonderful and I felt perfectly safe. The only irritating things are the people on mopeds and car drivers who go too fast down what should be pedestrian streets.
The Ville Vella is worth a stroll around as it's a little old town in itself.
Shopping is better than average, although there is the usual tack shops, there are some nice little clothes and jewellery shops too. You can browse the shops without the shop keeper harrassing you too!
The Catalan people are extremley friendly and appreciate it greatly if you attempt a little of the Catalan language.

The beach in Tossa looks beautiful but really really hurts the feet as it is shingle. Stunning surroundings and nice choice of shops and bars. The town was much larger than i expected and there was much that we didnt explore.
