This was the second time we have been here and again it was as good as the first time(last time was 2 years ago), the Thompson reps were great, the entertainment around the pool during the day and the evenings were brilliant never went out at night because our daughter just loved the evening's there and she met a lot of friends aswell (she did not want to go home)
Because we had been there before the 2 reps which do the Kids disco/entertaining/activitites etc. weren't quite as good as "Tall Paul & Crazy Kate" but that didn't stop our daughter enjoying herself and she loved the entertainment just as much
The hotel staff, from reception, restaurant and bar are also brilliant, especially "DAVID" the hotel entertainer, he is just great with the kids
The food in the restaurant is brilliant, think I need to go on a diet now
The flight and the in flight meals were excellent on both journeys

The hotel itself is nice enough and is kept clean and tidy. The rooms are comfortable enough but nothing above average. The location of the hotel however in relation to busy noisy roads is very poor. I e-mailed before hand and asked for a room overlooking the pool on the third floor away from the bar. What I got was the fifth floor, on the busy road where all the disco traffic (cars buses and pedestrians) pass by up till 4 or 5 in the morning, singing dancing and peeping horns. One morning at 4.30 I was seriously thinking about filling a bucket of water and throwing it on the revellers below!

The pool side is hectic if you want to lie in the sun. There is only one entrance to the pool area and this stays locked up till 9am every morning. People start queueing from aroun 8:15 to get sunbeds in the sun. If you're any later than 9:45 you'll struggle to get a sunbed at all and if you do it's likely to be in the shade. They really need to cut down some trees, get rid of the small footbal pitch or the crazy golf to give more room. Beds are packed so tight you struggle to move around. Bar side prices are high too 4.8eu for an optic of vodka & lemon! Wait till Happy hour and don't drink the very short spirits.

The adult entertainment is poor with not much enthusiasm given to anything. The childrens entertainers are good though and take good care of the kids whether they are going to the club or just dropping in.

The hotel is around a 20 minute walk from Portaventura, around 8 euros in a taxi. Around 15 minutes from the main beach at Salou and 10 minutes from the small beach.

Just back from 5 nights at the Golden Avenida. The weather was kind but the pool was still freezing.

This hotel offerred us excellent value for money and is very child focussed - all day there was something going on, be it kids clubs or family games that everyone can enjoy.

We were self catering so can't comment on the food but enjoyed the happy hour in the evening (which coincides with the kids discos). Hotel isn't brand new but the facilities offered suit well. There's an excellent play park with a variety of childrens slides and the pool is big enough (and deep enough) to have a really good swim.

We didn't have any problem with the sunbeds but probably due to the time of year.

Kids clubs were superb - my 2 should have been in different groups (due to their ages) but they could go in a 'drop in' club together'

Really great family hotel

Location good.

Excellent pool and beach soccer court.

Room size excellent.

Good choice of meal times, very flexible.

Staff all very helpful.

Very family orientated with lots of activities.

MINUS points

Fold down beds not all that comfortable

Mad sunbed rush at 0900 every day - rather amusing

Floor in room not very clean, maids seemed to do the bare minimum.

Corridors quite noisy at night.

Dont get too excited about the indoor pool, very small and very cold.

We stayed in the Golden Avenida Suites with Thomson for two weeks but was booked through Kings world travel. we were delayed from Glasgow airport by two and a half hours and arrived at about 1am at Reus airport was OK we had to walk from the plane to the airport no bus we then got to the luggage claim and we waited for about 45 minutes for the baggage to come from the plane we collected the luggage and went to the hotel we booked a taxi from holiday taxi recommended as the driver was waiting for us out side the arrivals. we got to the hotel and the receptionist was very helpful and nice we looked at the apartment and it was spotlessly clean not a thing out of place we looked on to the main road i must admit it was some times a bit nosy with the buses but we got use to it we had fresh clean towels every day and the beds were always made we had British satellite TV in the apartment the kitchen had all the basics the pool was out of this world it was beautiful but all the sunbeds are away but the good thing was that the hotel removed any towels from the sunbeds which are unattended before 10:15 am we went to the beach is beautiful the sea was lovely. Salou it self has changed since we were here the last time in 2001 i must be honest Salou has a bit let it self go were the hotel is down the street there is 3 clubs all across from each other on a friday and Saturday you can not move it is so busy the spanish put trees on the pavement so there are big holes everywhere a bit hard trying to get by the spanish as they do not move for you even if you have children. The clubs give out leaflets and buy morning they are everywhere on the pavement at the bank one theses were laying from friday night through to Sunday and had not been cleaned up it is still clean but has changed from the last time we were there. All the restaurants were all clean and made brilliant food. If you go self catering be prepared to spend a lot of money at the supermarkets as they are expensive but overall the entertainment at the hotel was brilliant day and night the staff and the reps of Thomson have done a brilliant job on this hotel. we done a trip to Barcelona and nou camp it was very good we have went before but Thomson give you and hour and a half to get a round it i would say they need an other hour to get around it but do not leave the shop to the last minute as it is very very busy and the staff do not care just throwing the stuff in the bags and are very slow and are more interested in talking than serve you. port adventure was great ques were OK but some were long the staff are a bit arrogant and do not go for some thing to eat as the food is rubbish and is cold. Overall we had a great family Holiday

We have just returned from the Golden Avenida a couple of days ago and we are already talking about booking again next year. Having stayed at a Golden hotel a few times before we where aware of the format but this hotel surpassed our expectations.

Before we arrived we had e-mailed the hotel and asked for a pool view on or around the third floor. When we arrived we got exactly what we had asked for.

Room 326 was perfectly positioned with a good size balcony and a great view of the pool and play areas. Just far enough back from the bar to have no problems with the noise.

The reception staff where excellent with a few of them being British and the others speaking good English. Check in was smooth and the room was great.

As there was 5 of us we expected it to be cramped but it was fine. Nice and clean which pleased the wife who generally finds faults where ever we go but was stumped this time.

We went self catering but chose to eat in the hotel as they offered a dinner ticket for 65 Euros for 6 nights for adults and kids under 11 eat for half price. The selection was great and the service even better.

The staff in the restaurant where very friendly and always glad to help. Sunbeds where a bit mental. Queuing started at 8 with doors opening at 9.

There where still beds after the first rush however all the best spots where gone quickly. You could also purchase a mat for the beds at 2 Euros a day but again these went quick. It was quite amusing watching it from the balcony but as the missus is a sun worshiper more often than not I was leading the pack.

Entertainment staff where amazing. David, Dan Sam and Chris show great patience with the kids and there is enough entertainment going on all day for the whole family.

The way they all joined in with things was brilliant. They made you feel very comfortable in their company and what amazed me was how easy they could make grown adults make a complete fool of themselves when it came to the dances they got them doing.

Anyone who's been there will never forget the Court of King Coraticous (wrong spelling I'm sure)but it was all done in good fun. Both my wife and i where on the stage taking part in competitions which is not like us and my son David won numerous awards for games the entertainers had put on during the day.

The best night for us was a Sunday when the Thomson reps put a show on for us as it was David's day off. The effort this team put in was fantastic and done with such enthusiasm that you could not help but get involved. Chris was a star here as he normally deals with the kids but gave everything for the adults as well.

Without a shadow of a doubt the entertainers are a huge part on why we will be back. The Golden hotel & Thomsons Super Family have a great team here and we have been recommending the hotel to our friends and family. Sometimes the teenagers that where there where a bit rowdy round the pool and at night but in general the behavior of the kids at the hotel was great.

One slight draw back was the opening times of the on site shop. It opened from 9 till 13.15 then closed till 14.00 then opened again for a couple of hours. Not sure why it didn't stay open and at times it was frustrating as the nearest shop is a bit away.

The hotel is situated in a great location. Just far enough away from the main drag (approx 5 mins walk) that you don't get all the hustle and bustle.

When you get to the main drag you are almost dead center of the main street. Turning right takes you down to the beach where the fountains are amazing at night and the kids could actually run in the middle of one that shot up from the ground in a circle which kept them amused. The lights from the fountains make for brilliant photos. If you go to Salou you must do this.

We bought a 14 day pass for the price of 3 off the Internet before we went which was great. We went 4 times and each time stayed for 4 - 5 hours. The way we planned it was we targeted certain rides on certain days which made perfect sense.

I went on a ride called the Hurukan Condor(or something like that) and all I'll say is it cured my constipation. I won't be doing it again though that's for sure.

Taxi from the hotel to PV is just 5 Euros ish and the return in a taxi is between 9 & 10 Euros although you can walk it back and it's easy. Facilities in the hotel where brill.

They had 3 pools, a table tennis table, a football pitch, a small kids play area and a bigger kids play area. Certainly enough to keep my 10 & 3 year olds happy all day. Kids club starts at 8, bingo at 9 and entertainment at 10 so the nights well planned out and the acts are varied and well presented.

They finish at 11 then it's music till 12 if you fancy some dancing. All in all it was great value for money and a definite for a return trip.

The hotel itself isn't in the best of locations, its on the corner of a main road and a dingy side street but once inside, its oustanding. A slight critiscm on arival was that our room was extremely dusty, but this was rectified immediately.

We were unlucky with weather for the first four days but the hotel has an indoor pool and jacuzzi and Thomson run kids zone clubs all day which were great for keeping the kids occupied. Dan and Sam the kids reps were outstanding and really made an effort to include all children, our only critisicm was that we arrived on May 1st but poolside entertainment and activities didn't start until the 2nd week which was different to what we were sold.

The food at the hotel was oustanding, a choice of about five main courses plus roast and fish dish everynight with a seperate kids buffet, in fourteen nights we never ate the same food twice, coming from a catering background, i cannot beleive anyone could criticise the food here, it truly is oustanding

Second time for the Avenida, enjoyed just as much as last year.

We took our friends with us and met with friends we made there last year ( Way Ay Mark, Vicky & kids) We all had a fantastic week, Super Family Dads especially. They worked hard for those t shirts and towels!!!

Food still excellent, glad to see the sausages are properly cooked this year.

Staff still spot on. Stunned that Anna in the restauraunt, Crazy Chris from the kids club and Sal in the bar remembered us from last year!

Entertainment on par with last year, I thought we were going to be disapointed that Israel has moved to Golden Port but Davide came up trumps.

The kids club was fantastic so my 7 year old says, we only saw her for half the holiday, she was there as often as she possibly could be. Well done crazy Chris and co.

The rush for the sunbeds is no more!! 10.30am whitsun week and still plenty of beds beside the pool. We emailed the hotel before we went to ask for pool views and we were not dissapointed.

All in all, another fantastic super family holiday, ready to book for next year.

Went to Golden Avienda in May of this year.

Holiday itself was good however we stayed on the first floor room 116 which was above the bar and overlooking the side road above the entrance.

The bar music was not a problem and finished around 11, the real problem was the locals who so we were informed by residents have street parties every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at around 1am until. 5ish. With 2 children aged 2 and 4 this was a problem as you could hear every word, scream and bad language, even regular police visits did'nt seem to stop it. We were told by staff that we could not be moved.

The hotel itself was clean and pleasant but the room house keeping was not up to much. The children enjoyed the kids discos and clubs which made the holiday for us.

Would not go again due to location and street problems

The hotel is on a noisy street. On Friday and Saturday nights sleep is impossible as there is a nightclub and a late bar on the street which Spanish locals frequent until around 4am.

The hotel itself has no sound proofing whatsoever and in our room 2 storeys up we could hear every word said/sang by the entertainers.

The reps insist on playing extremely loud (thudding) pop music by the pool from 11am and will not turn it down when requested to - so you can't even relax/read/have a decent conversation by the pool
