Please don't believe all that the negative reports say. This is a great hotel to base your stay in Tunisia in. We at the moment and could not wait to get on the net and praise the staff etc of this hotel. If you want a better or higher standard of hotel, then pay for it! we got a really good deal and are very pleased. Yes it has its faults, but these are outweighed by its better things.

Night club is very noisy, so if you get a room that overlooks it, make your complaint as soon as possible, in a fair and polite manner to the customer relations operative, Debbie (English), and she will do her best to sort things out. Food is very good and has a little something for everyone, remember there are guests from quite a few other countries.

Always be polite and fair with the staff, they get crap wages, but go out of their way to be helpful and help you enjoy your holiday.

Entertainment is getting better, its Alix's first season and her and the rest of the team are doing a bloody good job. Don't miss the changing ladies show, you pay 10 dinar for this but all other shows are free. The karaoke night is very popular. If you have any party Cd's bring them with you its very much appreciated!

We booked a late break and selected this hotel after reading a number of review sites.

I've visited Tunisia a number of times and knew what to expect from the country and hotels.

The hotel is about 15 years old I'd guess and in some places it is looking a little tired but that is only to be expected for a large busy hotel.

The hotel was clean and tidy. Maids visited every day, always polite and saying hello, and didn't have an issue if you asked them to come back later. The room was always well cleaned and they made a real effort on our birth days - fruit, petals etc. left in the room for us.

All staff were excellent, friendly and helpful at all times day and night.

Food was fine, a good buffet as is usual in Tunisia. We choose to eat a little later than most to avoid the rush but there was always ample choice and it was always hot and fresh. Great salad bar as well. Breakfast was a little limited but typical of Tunisia in my experience.

We didn't experience the entertainment - the micro brewery next door was our entertainment - great beer and atmosphere - an unexpected bonus.

The Night Club could be heard from our room but we were able to live with it.

We liked the location a lot - being just away from most of the hotels and the port but a very easy to walk to the sea or take a cab to Sousse. The area may well be a little busier when the Hannibal Park and Water Park are open in the summer.

We weren't bothered by the lack of a beach, there is a carriage to it, but we stayed by the hotel pool which was in very good clean condition.

We are intending to got back to the same hotel in the autumn.

The food was very good, alot of choice even for the pickiest of our kids who only eat chips.

The rooms were very clean and the maids kept them at a high standard of cleanliness and received clean towels every day.

The hotel is about 400 metres from the hotels own beach, which had lovely clean white sand.

All staff were very eager to help, just tip them a dinar.

The childrens club during the day, the childrens club organiser Azmi was always on hand to get the kids involved in various games and events. On the night it started quite late about 9.30pm so for young families it was too late.

All in all a good holiday was had and would stay at this hotel again.

We stayed at the hotel golf residence from 28th January for 2 weeks. Before we left the UK, we read the reviews and though "oh my god"! However, we found that yes, the comments on it been rather tired looking were true, it is in the process of refurbishment. (if you get one of the rooms on the mezzanine floor, to the left of reception, these will have just been done out).

The Food was EXCELLENT, breakfast was a huge choice of eggs, fresh pastries, cereals, meats, cheeses, fresh donuts, pancakes, plus others too numerous to mention.

Evening meal was a choice of 2 lovely homemade soups (no salt added, so that's a matter of taste, you can add your own), 2 vegetarian starters, around 10 different salads, 2 vegetarian main dishes, 2 different meat dishes, one a casserole, one usually grilled, 2 different kinds of potatoes every night, 3 different vegetables, around 4 or five sweets, what more could you want.

It was all VERY tasty (my partner is a chef, so he should know) In the two weeks we were there the menu was different every evening, even the kinds of potatoes were different!

At every meal there was great choice of fresh bread, with best butter, not that awful marge or low fat muck, with different juices and teas and coffee at breakfast (the coffee is an acquired taste, we took a jar of nescafe down to breakfast, they dont mind!).

The room, though slightly faded, was spotless, cleaned every day, clean towels every day. Just needs a bit of T.L.C. but like I say, that's ongoing.

There was boiling hot water 24 hours a day, and 3 loo rolls always! Whilst we were there, all the corridors were been stem cleaned and lighting maintained.

The indoor and outdoor pool were immaculate, the health spa area was OK, though again, a bit faded, but incredibly cheap for a half day health pampering session!

The staff were great, very friendly and helpful, especially the restaurant and cleaning staff. Forget all those nasty reviews you'd just read, this was ideal, and at the end of the day you get what you pay for and we certainly got more.

In response to a previous comment, the restaurant is half non smoking, as is the basement area, where the health spa is, and the doors to the bar and lobby were always open, so smoke was never a problem.

Whilst we were there, we did the 2 day Desert safari, AMAZING, well worth the money. Transport is very cheap, especially the trains and buses, though again, rather tatty, but then again they are well used and punctual, unlike the UK!!

Monastir was amazing, as was Side-bou-said. Port el Kantoui may be purpose built, but its a great place as a base and easy to explore the area from. One word of advice, wear dark sunglasses, and even earphones that are visible to avoid eye contact with the shop keepers and street vendors as they think you can buy huge quantities of pottery from each of them and have an endless supply of cash!!

GO THERE, STAY AT THE GOLF RESIDENCE AND ENJOY!!!!

The golf residence had some bad write ups so was a bit unsure what we would find, but we were pleasantly surprised.

The staff cant do enough for you and are all very nice, we spent 5 weeks here from january to early february and have already booked to go back for another 5 weeks this November and I think that says it all...

We didn't get off to a good start, it has to be said. Arriving late at night, threw suitcases on bed then there was an almighty bang, thunder, lightning, torrential rain and a power cut. All the lights went out. No one came to our room to see if we were ok or offered candles etc. We went to bed. A couple of days later we got stuck in the lift - in between floors. We rang the emergency button and someone came but could do nothing but try and force the door open. My husband physically undid the mechanism at the top of the door to which the door opened and we were able to climb up and out. No-one came to our room to see if we were ok.

Although our room was spacious clean and adequate this was not mirrored in the general appearance of the rest of the hotel.

The food was unimaginative and often unpleasant, offering basically eggs for breakfast and salad. There was one toaster for 500 people and one coffee machine. Dinner offered a little more choice but not what we expected. We only were offered couscous once in two weeks and were offered ice cream once a week. There was only one waiter who made an effort to be helpful and pleasant.

We understood there was an indoor pool which we were looking forward to as it allows some respite from the heat. It was closed due to maintenance which was a disappointment.

The entertainment felt as though the entertainment team were entertaining themselves more than the guests.

On the up side, we had a terrific tour lasting two days and an overnight stay on the Desert adventure. An adventure that took us over 850 miles in the two days on coach, camel, 4X4 and horses. We watched the sun rise over the salt lakes, ventured into caves, climed a mountain and came across a couple of oasis; explored spots where Gladatior was filmed, Star Wars and Indiana JOnes. It was worth going to Tunisia just for this trip.

Otherwise we won't be back.

However, It has to be said that what we paid for the two week holiday, broken down came to about

We stayed at the Hotel Golf Residence in Port El Kantaoui Tunisia.

The hotel it's self wasn't to bad but the food was disgusting, inedible!!

The entertainment left alot to be disired. The only entertainment that was any good you had to pay for, which was the Changing Ladies excellent fun, well worth the ten dinars we paid but at other hotels this show was free.

The pool was very clean and well maintained the only problem was you had to pay for the cushions for the sunbeds only 1 dinar but again at other hotels they were free.It seemed that they just wanted to make money out of us.

The staff were great nothing was to much touble for them.

The young boy who did the entertaining around the pool
Lotfi the waiter was lovely he has just got married and is really proud. On our last night he dressed our table up with flowers.

If I went to Tunisia again I would give this hotel a
wide berth!!!

This hotel is as good as the star rating no more, no less.

The furnishing needs up dating but is suitable for your stay. The cleaning service was excellent all over the hotel.

The food is varied and isn't something most children will enjoy all the time. If you have a room facing the Aqua park and above the night club you will have to put up with a lot of loud, ongoing noise.

We had to move rooms as no member of my party could sleep.

The pool area is clean and well maintained, however the poolside toilets are not. There is daily entertainment and activities provide by the 'animation'team which is excellent if you want to keep fit the only downside is the volume of the music.

Beware of weddings at the hotel as they create loads of noise and leave pins all around the pool area.

If you want to buy cheap drinks go to the hotels supermarket.

From the outside this hotel doesn't look too bad but once you get to your room you'll be disappointed!

Apparently it's been recently redecorated but the only evidence i could see of that was the slap dash paint job all over the fittings which were usely held to the wall with a splat of filler.

The hallway carpets were badly stained and the lighting in the nights was terrible.

Staff couldn't do enough for you and the entertainment wasn't too bad although there was nothing for my 2yr old to do.

Food was ok but nothing worth writing home about as didn't differ from eggs for breakfast and beef stew for tea.

All in all was ok but just prepare yourself!

Just got back 02/07/06 hotel very clean, food was different!if you like eggs and salad for breakfast your ok,evening mealwas edible a good variety usually chicken, lamb, beef, fish & salad.

We had adjoining rooms but we moved because of a noisy generator with no problem at all, some of the rooms can be noisy but this is not from the hotel but a bar across the road.the hotel is a 5 min.

Walk to the harbour & shops, all the hotel staff were very friendly our maid was great even putting cut flowers on our bed ,I told the wife I did it! It was worth brownie points, the pool was adequate and usually quite quiet, the snack bar's food was good we tried it all & it was good value.the 3 young entertainers were fantastic they made time for everyone no matter what age or nationality,if you want to join in you will enjoy it ,if you don't they don't mind .

Watch out for Azmi he's crazy and you help but like him with his mad cap ways.
